  1. I really believe in freedom of the press. In some cases, threads like this run their course and must disappear. Typically you get 2 or 3 days worth of good info out of them before people either start attacking each other or blatantly making things up. This thread will hit that point. Just watch...
  2. I agree with you entirely. Notice that I haven't stated my opinion on how the situation was handled. Simply, I wasn't there to see it. A lot of people read these forums, many more than most people think. I do my best to make everyone happy, and I almost always fail to one outsider's standards or another. I can, however, do my best to make things fair... as unhappy as it may make some people.
  3. Many of the downtimes have been exaggerated. The outage only lasted for a short while. Some rides were taken out of commission for a short while as a precaution. Many of the rides that lost power had to go through their morning start up procedure in order to entertain guests again. A lot of this required maintenance to hop from one ride to another to get them started, just as they would in the early morning. From what I understand, some of the shops on IS continued to be closed as a precaution until they were fully able to investigate the cause of the brown out. I understand people being upset, but to say that the park lost power for several hours simply isn't accurate. The actual power loss was a brief incident.
  4. I have no idea what KI's action plan is or was. I was simply informed that they had taken the names and contact info of those who expressed their concerns at Guest Services and they would be taken care of. That's about it.
  5. I was informed that there was a plan of action for incidents like this which was executed on Sunday. Those who made mention of the brown out at Guest Services were asked to give their contact info and they will be taken care of.
  6. Welcome to the neighborhood.
  7. I kind of feel bad for the KI folks. They worked so hard to put together their 4th of July celebration and this happened. Probably out of their hands...
  8. Yep. I hate the new forum software. Chalk the link thing up with not being able to use active links on the front page. This software is a lot more crash proof, though. I'd rather have that...
  9. Jackson, DO NOT miss the shows that Delirium_Guy listed above. They'll make your day.
  10. I was there for about 19 hours. Staying overnight there was the most insane experience I've had in a long time. SO glad that they asked me to officiate the record attempt.
  11. (Cincinnati, OH) --They did it! At Wake Nation Cincinnati, a 10-member Dream Team of wakeboard riders Saturday set an officially sanctioned Guinness World Record™ for the greatest distance traveled on a wakeboard in 24 straight hours. Starting at noon on Friday and finishing at noon on Saturday, the team rode 1,448 consecutive laps around Wake Nation’s 10-acre lake, traveling some 506.8 miles on the water. The 1,448th and final lap was completed by Tony Finn, co-founder of Liquid Force, the biggest name in wakeboarding equipment and apparel. But Tony had some additional business – following the record-setting performance, he then conducted a wedding ceremony on the Wake Nation Cincinnati dock, marrying Tony Migliorisi and Dori Craig, a Northern Kentucky couple who are wakeboarding enthusiasts. Tony Finn became an ordained minister in Ohio for the ceremony. The most laps completed by an individual on the Dream Team was 242 laps, turned in by Neill Barker (Liquid Force team rider), followed closely by 237 laps by Mike Olson (official distributor of the Rixen cable system.) The Dream Team also included three wakeboard champions: Tom Fooshee (2008 World Wake Park Champion), Adam Errington (2008 World Wakeboard Association National Champion), and Amber Wing (2009 Australian National Champion). Filling out the Dream Team were Jimmy Redmon (co- founder of Liquid Force), Brian Wheeler (managing editor, Wakeboarding Magazine), and Peter Kennedy and Nick Binkley (co-owners of Wake Nation Cincinnati.) Donations and pledges from the event benefited MedLend, a non-profit organization that provides medical missions to impoverished countries around the globe. Located on Joe Nuxhall Way in Fairfield’s Joyce Park, the Wake Nation Cincinnati watersports’ complex opened to rave reviews one year ago as Ohio’s only watersports’ park where riders can wakeboard, water ski, kneeboard, and wakeskate around a 10-acre lake WITHOUT A BOAT. Riders are pulled around the oval lake at speeds of 18-20 miles per hour by a circulating, overhead cable system that runs 35 feet above the water. During its first season of operation, Wake Nation Cincinnati received numerous awards, including prestigious “Best Of” awards from Ohio Magazine, Cincinnati Magazine and Cincy Magazine. New for 2010 is a smaller, second lake called “The Practice Pond” that features an “easy start” ride system, the first of its kind in the U.S. The Practice Pond is designed to give children ages five and up and beginners of all ages a place to learn to ride a wakeboard at a slower speed than on the main lake. At Wake Nation Cincinnati, both parking and admission are FREE. The park is a “pay as you play” facility with ride time starting at $25 for two hours. Rental equipment, private lessons, group discounts, season passes and birthday parties are available. For more information, call (513) 887-WAKE or email info@wakenation.com. 12. Might have been your luck or might have been the time of day. I've eaten there three times and they were very moist. Any more and they'd almost be too doughy.

  14. They're sitting in the back of the parking lot not hurting anything so... why not?
  15. Mod edit: Moved to Industry News and changed to appropriate topic title.
  16. Yeah, they're $5 per pretzel, which isn't cheap but they're are a marked improvement over the out-of-box ones sold elsewhere in the park. They have 3 types: salt, butter and cinnamon. The salt (which is like a beefed up traditional pretzel) is by far the best.
  17. I'd do it for like a year and collect the million-plus dollar salary then quit. Why not?
  18. The staff of KICentral is both shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of Will Koch, CEO of Holiday World in Santa Claus, IN. Many of our members have come to know Mr. Koch personally and we would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the friends and family of Will Koch as well as the entire Holiday World family. In lieu of flowers, the Koch family is requesting that donations be made to the Lincoln Boyhood Drama Association and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund. 19. Maybe he was relieved of his responsibility at the time of resignation but isn't officially gone for a few days. That would give them time to figure out how to phrase the press release.
  20. I have not seen him in ages where he be? Trailing soda and pop in popularity is Coke, which has influence in the south likely due to the location of the Coca-Cola plant in Georgia. "I'll have a Coke," "What kind of Coke?", "Root beer please". Soda is more popular in the southwest, northeast, and St. Louis area; pop is used more in the northwest and midwest; Coke is used in the south.Other terms for soft drinks from other counties (via wikipedia): Canadians and the British say "pop" Some Brits even say "fizzy drink" In Western Scotland, they use "ginger" Aussies and New Zealanders say "soft drink" Some Australians call it "lolly water" I'm from Northern Kentucky, the kinda-but-not-really south. I'd say the most popular terms are: 1. Coke (If you ask for a Coke at a Pepsi restaurant, there are times when they don't even correct you) 2. Soft drink (although a lot less common than just calling it a Coke) 3. Pop (you sometimes, but almost never, hear that)
  21. Let's assume for a second that your situation was unique. All that we've really heard here is how associates can't do anything about prices, which they can't - and perhaps even rightfully so. If someone comes in complaining about prices, Kings Island isn't going to help them out with that.. then again, neither will Wal-Mart. I've heard stories of guests complaining about rides being down and things of that sort and they were taken care of. Has anyone had any experience with this? I'm not one to complain about things. If something isn't up to my standards, it just looses my business. I do, however, give respect where it's earned. An example was Rivertown Junction. Ate there around opening day of '09 and hated it. Didn't go to GR to complain, as I didn't really want my money back. I was just done with the place. Several months later, a foods department area manager named Mike Loy approached me asking me to give it another chance. He had taken it over and claimed to have made a lot of improvements. Out of respect for Mike, I tried it again and was very impressed. Granted, this was a unique situation (with the foods manager approaching me) but otherwise, to this day, I probably wouldn't have ever eaten there again.
  22. Do you know to what extent seasonal associates can go to improve guest satisfaction? I don't.
  23. Oops -- my bad. Continue discussion by following the link above.
  24. Coasterbuzz is reporting that they have sources that are telling them that Jack Falfas has resigned as the COO of the Cedar Fair Entertainment Co. http://coasterbuzz.com/news/11807/breaking-news-sources-tell-coasterbuzz-that-jack-falfas-has-resigned-as-coo-of-cedar-fair.aspx Is this true? If so, why? Who will be the next COO? Time will tell...
