Kings Island, in cooperation with A Kid Again, formerly known as Adventures for Wish Kids, is holding an auction for the first rides on the new Diamondback roller coaster that will appeal to philanthropists and coaster-enthusiasts alike. Beginning February 2, the park will auction off a minimum of 96 seats to the highest bidders, who will be the first official riders on Diamondback – the tallest, fastest and meanest roller coaster to ever strike Kings Island. Bids can be placed until April 15 by visiting www.kiDiamondback.com/public/auction/ or by calling Kings Island at (800) 288-0808. A winning bid will include the inaugural ride on Diamondback, a commemorative first rider ticket, a special gift from the park and an admission ticket. Following the inaugural ride, each event ticket holder will be invited to stay and play in the park until closing at 10:00pm. The official opening of Diamondback, including the top bidders supporting A Kid Again, will take place on Opening Day, April 18. The highest successful bidder will select their seat on the first train while all other successful bidders will be assigned their seats according to their bid amount. Minimum bids begin at $50.00. One-hundred percent of the proceeds from the auction will go directly to A Kid Again. Founded July 6, 1995, A Kid Again is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing fun-filled outings and on-going support to children with life threatening illnesses and their families from the day of diagnosis until the children reach the age of 20. Because A Kid Again is a 501 © (3) not-for-profit, the donation from top bidders is tax-deductable to the fullest extent of the IRS tax code. A Kid Again currently has over 1,380 children with life threatening illness enrolled into its programs. The organization includes the entire family on its adventures, thus serving over 6,500 hurting people annually! Diamondback is the 15th roller coaster at Kings Island. The ride stands 230 feet at its highest point with a first drop of 215 feet at a 74-degree angle and will snake its way around 5,282 feet of track in excess of 80 miles per hour. Guests must be a minimum of 54 inches or taller to ride Diamondback. Diamondback first rider information: A minimum of 96 bidders will be seated. I emailed KIC and they said KIC was invited and they are working on a way to prove we are members of KIC to be able to go. No cost involved. Although the event is free, I'd imagine that there will be special meal tickets available for that day. I'd highly recommend that. The food for those things is excellent and a great value.

There are countless coaster enthusiast events at countless parks and allowing KICentral -- a fan site, not an enthusiast group -- participate is a privileged that is simply unprecedented. The unfortunate risk you run doing something like this is it could quickly become a Gold Pass event -- which it isn't. Ride Warriors Weekend is intended to be for the most loyal and enthusiastic fans and it simply isn't fair to other participants (KIC or otherwise) for 1,000 people to show up by simply registering on this web site, so the line had to be drawn somewhere. If you registered after Feb 1st or you know anyone who would like to participate, there still is an opportunity by joining one of the other approved organizations: American Coaster Enthusiasts Great Ohio Coaster Club Mid-Atlantic Coaster Club Florida Coaster Club Western New York Coaster Club CoasterBuzz Coaster Community Dark Ride and Funhouse Enthusiasts

No guests will be permitted at Ride Warriors Weekend. Only members of the organizations listed. However, regulations do permit your son to register on the site under the age of 13 if you contact us and give him official permission to register.

My goal wasn't to start an argument, I was just simply having some nerdy fun. Jackson, that is definitely one of my favorite pics. I finally have a legitimate excuse to visit the park again after being absent for almost 2 years. Media day here I come. Media Day for Diamondback will be for the working media only. However don't forget that you will have more than enough opportunities to ride Diamondback with having early ride times for Gold and Platinum Passholders and Ride Warriors weekend.

Thanks SO MUCH to everyone who came out to the park on Saturday! As I said at the event, Mother Nature really didn't work with us too well this time, but I hope everyone had fun with the activities at the Great Wolf Lodge and up in the International Restaurant. I'm sure no one will forget about the time they had to trek through the snow back and forth between Kings Island and the Great Wolf Lodge, right? Speaking of the Lodge, I got an email from their PR person thanking us for coming out. They really enjoyed showing off what they have to offer. She said you guys were a great crowd. Have fun! Ryan
