  1. Ouimet, eh? What a wonderful, surprising choice. He's an expert in destination industry, with a background not only with Disneyland, but also Disney Cruise Line, and other hotel/leisure companies. I'd expect to see a focused push into furthering the "resort" aspect of their business. Mr. Oiumet's bio, courtesy of Forbes: LINK - Forbes.com
  2. Mid June... and they only have one toll open at the North gate? Unacceptable. Heck of a way to make a great first impression!
  3. Niggling detail, but the "rusty" looking metal isn't a handrail at all, it's an electrical conduit running on the exterior perimeter of the structure, which may not be able to be painted.
  4. The composite sketch: Really, guys? Really? It looks like my (female) 2nd grade teacher, but with a terrible fake mustache.
  5. The last accident happened when the lift chain broke and the anti-rollbacks didn't function as they were supposed to, not a true brake issue like this incident.
  6. Sure, it's a relic of a bygone era, but the WildCat delivers some intense drops and sensation of extreme speed, without imposing height or inversions. It's a perfect mid-level coaster.
  7. My experiences, with pieces on both arms and my upper back, were quite good. The largest piece on my right arm was by far the least comfortable, but I wouldn't call it "painful." It's just a different kind of sensation.
  8. Some of us here questioned the wisdom behind buying FOUR prototype rides for installations in the same year, in four of their most popular parks.
  9. An excellent piece from the Kansas City Star... Continued at LINK
  10. Statement from Don we just got: It's been a crazy night here in the newsroom...
  11. And to some of us, 23 year olds are mere "interns".
  12. Oh, the ride still has those Coopers, only now they look like they went for the $99 special at Maaco.
  13. Maybe they should ask them for some licensing discounts.. KIBOB, jumping through the window. My mouth dropped when I approached the Backlot Stunt Coaster and saw the sign outside of the entrance greeting the MINI Road Rally participants, with a big fat MINI logo stamped on it... Yes, this "event" was centered on the Backlot Stunt Coaster! If there's some sort of partnership between the two companies, you'd think that even a discounted licensing fee would be achievable. But apparently, there's a whole lot of name-dropping with not a lot of work. The park gets to host the MINI event, and yet doesn't pay to use the MINI image anymore! That's like hosting a Tomb Raider gaming event in The Crypt's queue, or having a showing of "Drop Zone" in Drop Tower's queue house... Rubbin' that salt in the wound, aren't they? Let's remember... there's a great divide between BMW corporate, BMW's marketing folks, and the local BMW Dealers Association. I'm sure that the licensing requests must be flown much higher up the flagpole. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if the Road Rally was organized by a by an outside marketing / events contractor hired by BMW.
  14. Read more: http://cosi.org/visitors/exhibits/dinos/#ixzz1Lzxbc0LZ And yes, they will be showing "Waking the T-Rex 3D" in their 7-story Extreme Screen Theater (which will reopen equipped with brand-new, fully digital projection systems). A ticket to the exhibit costs $4.50 on top of your COSI admission... Only 90 minutes from Mason, Ohio.... Capitalism is alive and well. And for those who haven't visited COSI, do it. It's an incredible experience no matter the age.
  15. "Hey, remember that attraction that used to be free? It's not anymore." I don't get the cost structure... is this supposed to be the carrot to entice guests to up for the $7 DA(!) ticket instead of the $5 DA(!) ticket? I'd love to see their ROI planning... They're (obviously) trying to recoup their investment (these films aren't cheap) by using a fraction of an already finite pool... You start with the total number of guests, then look at the fraction of guests who opt to pay $5 to see DA(!), and then the smaller fraction of those guests who pay the extra $2 to see the film. It may have been far smarter to use the new film as a free attraction to entice people into the $5 Dinosaurs Alive(!) ticket. Then again, I can imagine a situation where the park was only given the capital to update the film if it were an upcharge.
  16. From the article... They're Knott very good at checking their facts, eh?
  17. Those other two ads are much better... the "postcard" elements improve over last years Fun & Only ads. Well done.
  18. I picture a bunch of middle aged, balding, white guys in suits sitting around a board room table, trying to figure out "what the kids will think looks 'cool.'"
  19. Break Dancing, obvious CG animation... This would have ROCKED in 1987. Honestly, it just looks like it's trying too hard.
  20. I hope they do something with the locker / restroom building which still carries the Bier Garten theme of the old entrance buildings.
  21. Color me surprised with this one... it should look great! I know it's awful, but I wonder how many of these little details are getting approved by slipping them by Kinzel. With the complete corporate mess happening up there, perhaps he's been too distracted to micromanage.
  22. They were most definitely air conditioned... the roof mounted units can be seen in this photo from Jungle Jims:
  23. 2 things: 1. I hope you've seen Mesa Verde Times. Not that I approve of what they did, but I'm glad they did it. 2. That is pure awesome. I really wish I remember that ride better than I do... it's dearly missed. I was absolutely infatuated with the MVT story. I agree, i don't condone it, but holy crap what a great story! Have you seen Martin's videos on Vimeo? He has some awesome pieces on Horizons. If you haven't seen them, I'll try to dig up the links.
  24. I know, we got plenty of rolled eyes from our friends when we told them we were going, but she had such a great time! The great thing about the Disney parks is their almost complete lack of height requirements... Our toddler was able to ride Maelstrom, for crying out loud! Sure is! Horizons was a huge influence on me as I was growing up, and inspired me to get into design.
