  1. Well this year there will be a movie in that theatre on "Behind the Scenes of the movies". Though, just think of them as giant billboards for Paramount Movies. Why put huge pictures of Coke bottles on sides of building if they don't make Coke in side of them? Advertisment. Theme. Wait...are you saying that this year there they have completely done away with another idea for a live stage production in the Paramount Theatre??
  2. The clock is a memorable aspect of the festhouse but what I remember most was the great smell of german food upon entering and the old shows, especially during Winterfest. I feel that the festhouse can be much more than an airconditioned food court. At the very least i would love to once again see new productions inhabit the house.
  3. You know some of my best memories of going to the park when I was a child was sitting next to the fountain eating a Larosa's peperoni pizza..and I'm sure that many others who have grown up with the park have similar fond memories. So yeah it would be a sad day in the unlikely case when Larosas is no longer present in the park.
  4. Well...i know that if the band is good enough, the quality of the venue kindof disappears, especially if you're standing up for the majority of the concert (referring to the bench seats). But it is a bit funny yet disheartening to hear the photographer from Def Leapard describe the green room as a poop shack. Little things like that can sometimes stick in the minds of those who perform at TW and perhaps even spread, casting a dark shadow on the facility. THis could even hinder some bands from making a visit. So yeah it would be nice if we could have a bit of an upgrade of the facilities, but from a financial standpoint, I can also see where the park is coming from in choosing not to spend alot of money on a facility that is utiliized only a few times a year. Though should they choose to bring in better acts and/or increase the roster of performances, it might pay to finally renovate.
  5. Contrary to pop opinion the Son will be my first ride. I need something to wake me up and shake away those winter blues.
  6. My first coaster was, of course, The Beastie in Hanna Barbara Land. I could remember the most intimidating thing about the ride was watching the riders whiz by as I was riding the bumper cars adjacent to the coaster. After a bit of coaxing I was ready for my first ride. The most rememerable thing from that ride was looking to my left, while at the top of the first hill, to observe to observe the sea of cars in the parking lot and as a result how high I really was . Needless to say, after I got off, I was soon back on again Last season I was fortunate enough to take my little cousin on his first ride on The Beastie....the look on his face as he went down the first hill was priceless lol. But unlike me, after he got off opted to ride some of the more tame rides...so it will be a while before I can get him on to the actual beast.
  7. I don't know if that would be possible for sanitary reasons but i feel that any offer for Gold Pass holders that allows unlimited drinks is a huge plus. Many who are Gold Pass holders are locals and frequently visit the park..as a result many choose not to purchase the highly inflated drinks and just opt to drink courtesy water. So just like any major local attraction, the park is out for the tourist dollar...taking advantage of those families who have saved hundreds of dollars to spend there summer vacation at the park. So why should locals, who are frequent visitors, pay these highly inflated prices like an incredible 2.75 for a bottled soft drink. The Gold pass somewhat addresses this by offering food and suvenier discounts but unlimited drinks will most definately be a welcomed addition should it happen.
  8. Well I wish I was with you guys when it comes to that many posts, but I try to only post unless I really have something to say. Anyway, I'm a bit surpised that no one has mentioned, to my knowledge, that PKI has added more days for which the park will be open till midnight. I personally welcome the addition.
  9. I know that we would probably be pushing our luck, but it would be nice if we could have the PKIU day close to opening day. I am sure that many of us will have the winter blues during the hiatus, and would love to be amongst one of the first to get dibs on the rides before the rest of the public. I also love the idea of a behind the scenes tour.
  10. Two of the most recognizeable characters within the old PT are making camio appearances at Fear Fest. Though its not the biggest addition to FF, i'm a bit surprised that those of you who were anamored with PT haven't caught it. Anyway I won't disclose the location for I'm sure that many of you have or soon will discover the two surviors of PT's demise. P.S. By the way love the new site
  11. While walking through coney mall tonight, I noticed an unususual dark spot along the way. I moved closer to it and realized that not only was the scramber dark and not in operation, the only part of the ride that was left standing was its center axis. Could it be that the ride is just down for maintenance or could this be an indication of a new flat in coney for next year.....?
  12. Yes, the sign was as much a part of KI as the eiphel tower though of course less predominant. But I will definately miss it. And like Jeff Seibert said on channel 5, it will be great to look forward to the development of a newer, more modern sign. Already there is a bit of competition to the north on 71. Those of you who frequently travel the stretch between Cincinnati and Columbus know what I mean. If a little off of the road exit can have a mammoth, Las Vegas type of video board sign for its convention center, then I would think that the midwest's largest amusement park should deserve no less. So just like anything new at PKI...Stay tuned.......
  13. As noted in the article, they are not only aiming for the new water resort, ragarding the extra water capacity, but they are also aiming towards future expansion of the park as well. So i guess they were figuring why not kill two birds with one stone.
  14. Fortunatey I have Time warner cables new DVR so I have the VMAs in a picture in picture screen and Extreme on the main and vice versa. Anyway, I'm a huge tech guy so I loved the part where the cameras went up to the top of Delirium to explain its inner workings....Still waiting for TR to show up.....
  15. I'm pretty sure that there wasn't a death associated with The Bat. I believe the cause for its removal was that it was a maintenance disaster.
  16. Ok, I'm a seasoned SOB rider having ridden it over 200 times, I'm also over 6'2". Now conventional thinking would say that thats a bad combination..right. But, over time I have learned how to ride the coaster, and I feel that, other than replacing the cars and/or making some track changes, knowing how to ride it should significantly reduce the pain factor. I'm sure that some of you have heard these tips before...but to reiderate, to avoid the ever so painful knee knocking against the non padded handle, cross your legs as much as possible. Second, If you are squemish about over turbulance always ride the center row of each car...the back is fine as well for I feel it gives some of the best stomach rattling..but never ride the front car, it will tear you up. So I feel that if two of those rules are posted and made clear perhaps the pain factor can be reduced a bit. So take it from me if a tall person can consitantly ride the Son without major pain, anyone can.
  17. Archive photos Here is a great link that has a few archived photos.
  18. Yes i do miss some of the old rides but I also miss some of the little nuances that defined the park back when I was growing up in the 80s..such as the old roaming characters including the "clown band", the old vine canopy with twinkling lights that served as great place for shade, the classical french horn music throughout the park, the old hana barbara land including the smurfs ride, and even the smell of the mist from the fountains seemed to be better back then. And I finally trully miss winterfest.
  19. Yes, this is one of the facts that i like about PKI, the park has enough extra acreage to more than double its size. I guess half of the thanks would have to go to Walt Disney's brother Roy Disney. Back when the park was in its planning stages the head of taft broadcating consulted Roy. And given that Disneyland had such little additional acreage, his opinon was to buy land and buy more land. And so far it looks like management is doing a pretty good job at preserving that aditional acreage for future expansion. I'm actually a bit surprised that they have yet to tap into it..but it does bode well for the future of the park in comparison to CP which virtually no more additional acreage.
  20. I actually think that Ohio is one of the only states to require that all rides be inspected on a regualr basis, including carnival rides. I think that California is the only other state to have such a law.
  21. The only ride that I ever really kept count of was the Son, and even then I had to stop around 175 since it opened.
  22. Speaking of land near The Racer and possible forms...there is a quite noticelble yet small footing located to the left of The Racer's queue, just behind the new latter game and plush animal storage. It seems to have been in place ever since slightly before the construction of the new game, with orange netting around it. I'm sure that it's nothing big though. I cannot really forsee anything placed in that area unless they sacrifice The Racer and AE lol.
  23. As for the tucked in pants part of your question, I have mixed feelings about it. I do feel that for the tourists that come to a park a first impression is a lasting impression...i never gave any real thought to it since I'm a regular. But on the other end, I can see where some of the employees are coming from....I personally would simply not feel comfortable at this stage of my life having my pants tucked in. That is why, though I think that its a great summer job, have chosen not to work at PKI and have sought out jobs that offer a casual dress environment. And I feel that for those employees that have trouble with the dress code, they should do the same. Though it might not be as fun and you might have to look harder there are alot more profitable jobs in the area that offer better pay with casual dress. As for Dragonlord, I can understand where you're coming from with having pride for the park, I feel the same and am of couse not an employee. But I do think that you have to lighten up a bit...I think that you take your job a little too seriously. One instance was when i was at the Weird Al concert...you gave a group of girls a severe repremand and lecture about how profanity was not tolerated in the park. I was sitting behind these girls...yes they were wearing kind of goth clothing...but they were as nice as could be and from my vantage point not one profane word came out of their mouths. So please lighten up a bit and remember we're supposed to be having fun here.
  24. I think that the biggest attraction for the show is simply the loud explosions. Everything else seemed to be a bit cheesy. The first time i saw the show I ended up watching it stage left next to one of the employee entrances. And I'm not sure how it looked from the front but from my vantage point the hand to hand combat punches were like a good two to three feet away from the subject lol. I've always thought that with the Paramount afiliation that it could be a off possibility that PKI could turn into a mini Universal..with stunt shows and themed attractions. But if this show is any indication as to the future of Kings Islands ties to Paramount...the future looks bleak. I mean after all Tomb Raider has become a very important franchise to Paramount studios and its almost disrespectful to the franchise to have such a production with ties to the film.
  25. I kind of miss the old classical music that was played throughout the park when I was young in the 80s. I especially miss the "Sabre Dance". I'm sure that many of you do not immediately recognize the title, but if you search in Kaza and play it, I think it would bring back some memories.
