Try Millennium Force in the rain. I did that the day Maverick opened. An interesting ride, to say the least.

I definitely see another wooden coaster at some point. My money would be on either a GCII or GG twister. Location would probably be somewhere out in the woods on the edges of the park, maybe out on the other side of the railroad between Rivertown and WWC.

ROFL at TOPGUN's pic. Dippin Dots Guy1 doesn't look too happy to me. Must've had a rough day at work.

Whats happening to EVERY ride at GL?
DiSab replied to FOFirehawkFAN's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Yeah, and I've heard talk that Head Spin is possibly going in Hypersonic's plot sometime soon (most likely '09). -
Looks like a great park. Too bad Superman was down. I've heard a lot of good things about that ride. But I'm gonna have to knock you for wearing a Xavier shirt. I'm sorry, but around here, that just isn't acceptable.

And not only on the same campus, but, ironically enough, in class together. But back on topic, it does seem too bad that the Tower of Terror doesn't get very high, nor do you get the 6.5 seconds of weightlessness. Doesn't the Superman ride at SFMM have this same problem?

Well, funny thing is that I'm still here. I'm part of the Class of 2010.

Wait, Cory, you go to UD?! Well how about that, it's nice to see a fellow UD Flyer on here. One of these days I'll get to Australia, or at least somewhere outside of North America, and get to some new parks there.

So is the Giant Drop really a 400-foot free-fall?
-
Not that I'm aware of. And I haven't heard of anything going in for '08 at Worlds of Fun either.
-
Coolness. Looks like you had a good time.
-
Yep, Invertigo is the standard/model name for the ride.
-
Yeah, I love the feeling of insecurity on Skyhawk. It really adds to the ride. And it doesn't have bad air on the two highest swings, either.

Afterburn at Carowinds

Agreed, that's probably the coolest and most bad-ass logo I've seen in a while. The CF design department just renewed a little of my faith. Now if only we can think of better names for the rest of the rides in the chain... -
That's a good question. I honestly don't have much of an idea. Now, I've never seen the Tomb Raider movies, so I wouldn't know which props were in the actual movie (and hence would be copyrighted) and which ones weren't. But I would guess that definitely the pre-show and possibly the Buddha statue. However, if they were to modify it from the Buddah design into, say, another god or figure, it might stay. For the props inside the ride building itself, I'm not too sure what's going to stay and what's going to go. I only rode it once, and that was just this past season, so I didn't get a good look at everything it had in there. But I would say that the majority of it will stay. There is the possibility that a new ride cycle will be programmed in, and hopefully the ride effects will be repaired/replaced. But we'll likely have to wait until opening day to see for sure what's been changed.

Have you ever been on an Intamin Stand-Up coaster? If not how can you be sure they are bad rides (which I'm assuming you are saying by the smiley used in your post)? I believe this brings something up, about talking about certain topics as if you know all about them, when you really don't. Personally, I haven't been on an Intamin Stand-Up coaster, but I'd love to give one a shot to see how they ride compared to the B&M version. And since I have yet to ride one, I won't make any conclusions about them, saying they are good or bad, until I get a chance to try it out for myself.

The Crypt is a great name. I think it really fits the ride well. Lets just hope they will work on the insides and get the effects up and running before opening. I wasn't much of a fan about Flight Deck at the beginning, but I think it's starting to grow on me. Like CoastersRZ said, it does convey the ride's theme well. While they could have thought up something better, it's still no the worst I've ever heard. Maybe they'll even fix up the station now that it's getting a new name. And have they said anywhere specifically that "Danger Zone" won't be playing there anymore? Because last I checked, Paramount didn't own trademarks on the music played at the park. BLSC isn't that great either, but I really don't care much about it. And honestly, there wasn't a whole lot they could do for the name without having to pull out a lot of the theming (which I'm sure they didn't want to have to do).

Deal or no Deal Santa Claus, IN
DiSab replied to TOPGUN1993's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Haha, and the funny thing is that when I went there toward the end of the 2007 season, we wanted to ride the Voyage with Santa, but he was busy working the park entrance. -
My guess is that they'll keep the general premise the same, but just remove/update/alter the existing theming so that it won't be associated with Tomb Raider. My guess is that the queue theming and most of the on-ride theming will remain. The only thing during the ride I can see being changed is the giant stone statue on the forward wall (since that might resemble the movies too much). But I do think there will be a completely new pre-show (if it even comes back at all).

Yeah, I noticed that earlier today, and I thought that would have been taken care of by now.

Enter Shockwave, located at Drayton Manor Park in the UK. It's one of a very few stand-up coasters made by Intamin (the other ones being a single-inversion model which traveled around to various Six Flags parks, and is currently in storage at Darien Lake; the last model is similar to the SF one, but not a twin, originally in Sweden but now operating at La Ronde in Montreal). Also of interest, its the only stand-up coaster with an in-line twist (in Shockwave's case, in the form of a zero-G roll). http://www.rcdb.com/id814.htm And regarding my earlier comment, I personally think that stand-up coasters have declined in popularity recently due to the various other types of coasters that tend to give more comfortable and intense rides. Stand-ups, due mainly to the configuration of the seats, are somewhat limited in the types of elements and layouts they can utilize. For many different people, myself included, stand-up coasters have the possibility to "beat up" its riders, either in the areas where the seat is, and/or in the head, due to headbanging. Personally, I think the headbanging is caused by the distance the riders' heads are located relative to the track. On other coasters where the riders are seated, their heads are closer to the track itself, which makes it easier to orient the track elements to reduce the amount of side-to-side movement experienced by the head. On stand-up coasters, since the heads are farther away from the track, it makes it relatively harder to configure the elements in such a way that rider's heads will not be thrown from side to side. I've noticed this considerably on Mantis, with the difference in ride experience between the middle seats and the end seats. If that doesn't make any sense, let me know and I'll try to re-word it in a clearer way.

Ergo, Jackson, yes, that was the reason why they added the extra restraints to KC.
