I'm headed up there tomorrow, so hopefully it'll be running. If not, no big deal, I'll be there probably a few more times this year. But it would be nice if it is.

Kings Island Central Announces a Special Event! SOLD OUT
DiSab replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
Yeah, I'd really like to check this out. I'll see about this and hopefully I'll be able to go. -
Tell me about it. I had a co-worker tell me a few months ago that SoB derailed and three people died - which is why it was still closed (at the time). I told her that if she could find me the news article about it, I would pay her $10. Needless to say, she hasn't got back to me yet, and I still have my $10.

Huh, I never even knew those statues said anything. But I would like to see the building around TR: TR go down. Let it run in the open, but possible keep the queue covered and air-conditioned. If that's possible. And even though there may be some rides not every one likes or that are bad/not very exciting, we don't need to remove any of them. Remember, only on about half the land owned has been developed. I say expand the park grounds out behind Boomerang Bay and Top Gun/SoB/X-Base before we start removing current rides for new ones. With that much space available, there really isn't any need to remove perfectly good rides. The only one I'd like to see go is Days of Thunder - I think that's worthless, and every time I go past it there isn't anyone on it. A thrilling flat ride, like a Screamin' Swing, would fit perfectly there.

Firehawk from Geauga Lake to Kings Island
DiSab replied to Vortexallday's topic in Coming Attractions
Interesting. I never heard that before. That really is ironic. -
Yeah, and now it says that as of June 30th, its open again to the public. Time to use my awesome editing skills on said article.

How about blacklights in the tunnel? That might add a cool effect.
-
I'm pretty sure this is a statue of Cincinnatus. He's there because he's the namesake of Cincinnati. At least that's my guess.
-
My guess would be that with a tunnel, it is more difficult to tell where the ride will go next when you are inside said tunnel - thus bumping up intensity.
-
In that area labeled "5," it looks big enough for an S&S Screaming Swing. I think that would be a good ride for KI, they're a lot of fun and can easily be put in in the next few years. This is, of course, all speculation.

CP Loose Article Policy
DiSab replied to Gordon Bombay's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
MF and TTD do not have the bins because of the double station, and Thunder Canyon doesn't either because of the rotation loading platform. I'm not sure about the other water ride, Snake River Falls, since I don't ride it much at all. The two major flat rides, Skyhawk and maXair, both have the bins, as do all other coasters. I'm not sure about Disaster Transport or Iron Dragon - I believe you are required to carry all loose articles onto the ride with you. But it shouldn't be too much of a hassle for those two since you probably won't lose anything very large on them if you are careful. Maverick does have article bins, so you should be fine on that one. -
Not necessarily do they need to fix their priorities. There are still many schools in session, so some staff are not able to work at the park full time yet. I think that they'll start running both sides as more schools and universities go on summer vacation. But right now I would venture to guess that they are a little understaffed at this point.

Has anyone ridden Maverick?
DiSab replied to fcbaseball's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I've ridden it, and I must say that it's one heck of a ride. I really think that the first drop is better than MF. And that's saying something. You really feel like you're going to fall out of the train. It is one heck of an experience. And both the airtime hills are amazing. The air is truly ejector air, and you honestly feel like you are flying out of the restraints. And this is the very first time I have gotten good airtime with OTSRs. I am truly in love with the Intamin OTSRs now (at least on non-accelerator coasters). The Twisted Horseshoe Roll is very smooth and fun. The corkscrews give you very good hang-time air. The launch is quick, forceful, and extremely smooth. There's a cool little surprise inside, but I won;t spoil that for anyone. But there is also supposed to be fog in the tunnel, which will make it even more interesting, although it wasn't in when I rode it. The first hill after the launch had some good air, even with the trims (which you don't really feel too much, like you do on, say, Mean Streak). The drop around the pond in fun, but when I rode it over Memorial Day weekend (actually, technically the first day it was open), the water bombs were not on. They did, however, have the firehose over the canyon on. But I do believe that now they have the water bombs working, as well as the firehose still on. The s-curve is a great replacement, and the speed at which you navigate it makes me all the more happy the heartline roll was removed. There was absolutely no way for that to have been executed smoothly the way it was designed. But the two back-to-back Stengel dives are really good. Both have some good air, and the second has amazing hang-time. The final airtime hill throws you upward, and then you hit the brakes. All in all the ride is very fun and enjoyable. It is definitely worth the wait, no matter how long it may be. The crew is very efficient, and keep the line moving almost constantly. So there is really not as long of a wait as it may seem at first. I really can't wait to get back there again and ride. This is one of the park's best rides - and I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that it's possible it may be the best in the park. -
Yeah, I actually like the complete/almost-complete stop. When you start inching forward out of the brakes and down the next drop, the angle and banking on said drop almost makes it feel like you're going to fall out of the train. I like that feeling because it gives the ride kind of a unique element - the Falling-Out-But-Not-Really-Falling-Out Drop!

Threats of SeaWorld Massacre Stopped
DiSab replied to RingMaster's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Well... This is mildly disturbing. There are some sick people in this world. -
Yeah, I really didn't think Vortex was all that bad, really. A little banging here and there, but overall pretty smooth. What I would like to see, however, is a nice B&M floorless or an Intamin multilooper out in the woods behind SoB, or even over behind Boomerang Bay. I think that might be something we would see in the next few years.

Iron Dragon at CP is fun, but its nowhere near as fast as Top Gun. But it is a lot longer (2 lift hills), and the pretzel-knot finale through the mist in the lake is awesome. But Top Gun is better in terms of speed and intensity. Of course, Iron Dragon lost a lot of its thrill when Dragster was being built, as a lot of the trees along the fastest stretch of the ride were removed for the new station. Previously it had appeared as if the trains would swing into the trees, kind of like Top Gun does coming out of the valley and over by SoB.
-
I love Top Gun. That first drop is extremely fun, and the fact that the ride travels the contours of the land makes it even more exciting. I would really hate to see it go. On the idea of "Downtown KI," do you realize how much money it would take to level that valley out enough to build a pavilion on it? Answer - much more than the park has. It just isn't very practical at all. But I would love to see the theming get an update and bring the station back to what it was when the ride first opened. I personally think that it is only a matter of time before Cedar Fair does so. Right now, I think they are more concerned with rebranding the park and making the necessary modifications to get the park up to speed (i.e. adding some food stalls, shows, and of course fixing SoB). But in a few years, I can see Top Gun get a nice face lift back to what it once was.

Maverick Testing Photos
DiSab replied to Firehawk1189's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Hey, hey! I thought the commentary was pretty cool, if I must say so myself. And yes, we were watching the FunCam at the same time, so we used that to determine the speed, not the Maverick PondCam. -
^Exactly. There is nothing wrong with seat belts being added to the rides. It just helps in the very unlikely case that something out of the ordinary does in fact happen. They do not affect the ride experience one bit. I personally think its a good idea, especially after all the scrutiny the park is under after the SoB incident last season.
-
Yeah, I have no idea how Adventure Express is now more intense than Top Gun or Drop Zone. But yeah, Cedar Fair has always had odd ratings. Look at CP - almost every major ride and roller coaster is a 5, so whatever...
