Your reaction to the Racer news
The Racer is a classic IMO. Its still a fun coaster even when it doesn't race or go backwards. I love those old hilly, airtime wooden coasters. Glad to hear they do race it sometimes, maybe that is only on busy days, I dunno. I stay away from the park on busy days.

ride names
Not really at all. "Flight Deck" worst name ever "Drop Tower" more of a model name than a name "Invertigo" it IS a model name of the Vekoma inverted Boomerang model. IT would be like if GM called my car the "Cheverolet J-car" instead of a Cavalier Well I guess some aren't bad "back lot stunt track" very good quick fix, and I don't mind it at all "The Crypt" well they need to improve the theming but the name is fine

Your reaction to the Racer news
Where did I say if one side is not running it is better to close the ride? I didn't say that at all. All I'm saying is the way they talked about it at the beginning of the season was "we flipped this train around so they could race again" and now they aren't racing. I for one preferred The Racer backwards, but I thought it was a cool idea if the coaster operated as should. The Racer practically seems like a walk every time so I don't see why they couldn't just race them.

Togo standups or B&M standups?
B&M Definitly. I'll take Chang over King Cobra anyday!

Your favorite roller coaster company?
I really don't understand why, I think they are are classics, and when I think "roller coaster" its the first thing that pops in my head. I just hope KI doesn't have any current plans to dismantle The Vortex, and if they do I hope a B&M "sitdown coaster" (For whatever reason RCDB calls B&M custom looping coaster B&M Sitdown coaster), with the same color scheme and similar name replaces it.

Your favorite roller coaster company?
Its either B&M or Arrow Dynamics. B&M has definitly made some awesome rides I've been on, and I've always loved Suspended coasters. I really don't understand why Kings Island never got one. I also like B&M's standups, as Chang was definitly the best standup I've ever rode. However I love the classic "Custom looping coaster" that Arrow makes, so thats why I also am putting them on the list. Its really sad to see that Arrow is gone from the industry, and even more sad to see parks tear down their Arrow custom loopers, ie "Drachen Fire" from Busch Gardens, and "Shockwave" from Six Flags Great America. When I rode Shockwave in 1994, I honestly thought it was the best looping coaster I had ever been on, and I was pretty upset when I found out Six flags tore it down to put in...well a B&M flyer, which I've never been on so I can't judge it, but from what I've read they should of just tore down the Whizzer instead. As for KI, Vortex is my favorite ride and I don't think that will change.

Your reaction to the Racer news
I oppose them flipping it back around for one reason: They don't run it right! I understand they were going for the original classic theme of the "Racer", as in its supposed to "Race", however first time I rode it this summer, the blue train was shut down, the second time both were running but they were NOT racing! I was in the blue train and it left the station while the red train was still loading! If they are going to run it this way they need to just flip the blue train backwards again, and be done with it. However I'm not completly opposed to this, as long as they run it right, but I am very dissapointed that pretty much the KI staff screwed up the whole purpose of flipping the car back to its original postion!

Man exposes himself at Carowinds
I put the blame on carowinds for not doing anything about this pervert. I don't blame the other guy for knocking him out.

KI's Vekoma's getting new trains?
yeah how would Vekoma make trains for a coaster they didn't originally build? I would like to see some more modern seating without the headbanging harnesses. I could care less though weather or not they make it 4 across or not, after all whats the point? The Vortex eats crowds anyway, in fact better than any other coaster. Its one of those things where I know if its a busy day, go to The Vortex because MAX you won't wait more than 15 minutes. I don't see anything wrong with Invertigo or Firehawk's trains. So I don't see Cedar Fair shelling out the cash to replace them

Rollercoaster(s) rumor
I'm glad B&M is finally coming to KI, what took them so long anyway? I would like to see a couple more, maybe a floorless Dive-machine, A true Invert (something KI has always been lacking IMO), or perhaps if they ever feel like getting rid of The Vortex, a B&M Custom looping coaster.... I've never been on one but from what I've seen they are impressive, with roomier cars, and a more modern style. Don't get me wrong I would be upset of they demolished the 'tex, but I'd get over it quickly with a new B&M custom looper.

The Crypt
Well I finally rode the ride so I can actually give an opinion now. My opinion: 2 thumbs down I mean yeah it is a bit more intense and those quick flips are cool, but its over nearly as soon as it starts, and the total lack of special effects is just lame... if they aren't going to use the special effects they might as well put it outside and make it a real topspin. Like I said earlier it doesn't need the tomb raider theme to survive, they can make it just as cool of a ride without it, but it does have to have SOME sort of theme! I really hope this was just a quickfix and they plan to do more with it in the future

Trip Report 7-9-08
Oddly enough though in the very front its as smooth as any steel coaster... Weird how that makes such a difference. Also what was weird was my brother struggled a bit with the Front seatbelts... I got it to snap in but it was tight, while in the back car he had no trouble putting the seatbelt on. Looks like Son of Beast is one of those coasters that has the varying seatbelt lengths

FLASH: INBEV TO BUY A-B FOR $70 A SHARE
It sucks because its like the last American Beer company... I dunno PBR might still be made here, but I do know Miller was bought out by SAB in 2002, and then the new company, SAB-Miller bought Coors like last year or something.

Trip Report 7-9-08
Well at that I had just rode the Son of Beast in the very back, and I was a little sick from that, so I barely made it through Invertigo without puking. Son of Beast is feels like a coffee peculator in the back!

FLASH: INBEV TO BUY A-B FOR $70 A SHARE
I really don't get how A-b could be having financial problems.... you know how many people drink bud light? I figured my friends alone would be enough to keep A-B an american company

2 years later, are you happy CF purchased KI?
sounds like Cedar Fair saved the park just in time before it self destructed. I don't know the names of all the companies that hid behind the Paramount name. At first though it seemed to be a good thing with the whole movie theming, but in the last couple years it hasn't been good. I am glad Cedar Fair owns Kings Island now. Cool thing too is the Platinum pass... buy it and you got admission to Kings Island and Cedar Point all summer. Its too bad not too many other of the former Paramount parks chains are near here.

2 years later, are you happy CF purchased KI?
Honestly, I think I am happy with the Cedar Fair purchase of the park. I know its shocking to everyone who has seen my complaints about ride restraints... however I haven't had a single problem fitting on any ride, its my wife who has. I'll tell you guys right now I that most of my posts were nothing more than blind rage, and honestly I don't really blame Cedar Fair for it, but well I gotta blame someone. Anyway Cedar Fair bought the park and the immediatly added Firehawk and later announced the 2009 project. Its hard to complain about a company buying the park and adding 2 roller coasters right from the get go. Crazy thing is the 2009 rumor which ended up being true dates back to like summer of '06. Paramount apparently had the ride exchange program, which meant a new ride means minus one old ride. They proved that when they added Delerium but took away King Cobra, added Tom Raider but took away the old log flume, and added Italian Job Stunt Track but took away the Antique cars. Its nice to see a company thats going to add these 2 coaster but not take away anything!

I wish new rides would come soon
Yeah I'll add that one to the list

I wish new rides would come soon
Its an awesome park for coaster junkies, but I think they need a lot more flat rides. I actually tried to ride some of the flat rides while I was there this past visit. Theres not a whole lot really. significant ones: Drop Tower Delirium The Crypt Fair type Rides: Monster, Shake Rattle and Roll Viking Fury Zephyr Unless we are counting Nick Universe, thats really about it. While I think its cool KI is building a new coaster, I do think its time for some more flat rides. Honestly I can't believe an amusement park wouldn't have a simple Ferris wheel or something!

Geauga Lake Double Loop
This ride was just a clone of "corkscrew" at Cedar Point wasn't it? Meh who cars, Vortex is still the best custom looping coaster...well with the exception of Great American Scream Machine.

Trip Report 7-9-08
Well for once I have nothing to complain about. I had work off last night because I was going to court to fight a traffic ticket. I don't really want to get into why I got the ticket, its a long story and I was pretty upset when I got it. Lets just say police officers need to be more clear on which way they want you to go when they are blocking of a section of the road. Anyway prior to the court date my brother had asked me when we are just going to go up to Kings Island for the hell of it, since we have gold passes. I told him "well I'm off work on the 9th to fight that stupid ticket, and I might need some cheering up after the court case so why don't we go on the 9th?" Anyway yesturday I got to court at about 9, the case was for 9:30. I was told when I signed in "your officer is here have a seat". I was pretty aggravated, I mean thats mainly why you go to traffic court isn't it? The cop's NOT supposed to show up! Anyway once they got the show on the road, they started calling everyone up basically to ask if you want to just go ahead and pay the ticket or take it to trial. I found out I was eligible for the "safe driver diversion program" where if you pay the ticket in court, its not reported to the BMV, you get no points, and no additional cost for insurance. I took the option, paid the ticket and got home at about 10:30am I was pretty happy I at least got a reduced penalty by going to court. Anyway I called my brother, he got here a bout 11:30, and at noon we left. We got to KI at 2pm and had a blast. Here's what we rode in the order we rode it: Delerium Invertigo Adventure Express The Racer Zephyr Vortex The Crypt The Beast Son of Beast Back Lot Stunt Track Shake Rattle and Roll Vortex (2nd time) Firehawk Derium (2nd time) Son of Beast (2nd time) Invertigo (2nd time) We had brought our soveineer cups from previous visits to keep us with drinks most of the day. After we rode The Beast we got dinner at Wings Diner. I still think its the best deal in the park. Yeah the food ain't that great, but its the same quality of food you get everywhere else and you get as much as you want of it. Honestly It would of been really good had it been warmer, but I couldn't complain. My brother is a big guy and had some trouble fitting on some of the rides. I helped make sure he could ride everything. I found I'm getting good at that, but on Delerium the second time he only needed one more click and I accidently gave him 3! LOL it was uncomfortably tight and they had to release the harnesses again. The 2nd time I just let the KI employee do it. My brother didn't have to make the walk of shame one time. He's acctually got issues with his legs too... they are so long there are certain spots on rides he can't fit in, ie the back of the cars on The Vortex. He can fit fine in the front seats, but in the back seats his knees prevent him from sitting down! BTW I found that the only way to ride the Son of Beast is sitting in the very front seat of the very front car! OMG ITS FREAKIN AWESOME! Ride is really smooth up there, and its just awesome seeing the whole ride come at you with nothing in front of you! I thought it might be fun to try that on The Vortex too, but i was wrong. the hood of the tex' bends down into the seating compartment and creates a metal edge. A couple times the ride threw my legs into that metal edge, and it hurt. As for crowdedness eh not bad. Its about what I expected. I suppose it could of been better, after all some rides had a wait, but Vortex and The Beast were walk on's all day. Son of Beast had a good half hour wait at about 2pm, Firehawk and FoF had a wait all day, but when I finally decided to ride Firehawk it only took like 20 minutes to get on it. We skipped FoF just because I don't feel like watching that stupid video 20 times over the course of the wait. You know "Who let this people in the hanger..... AHHH ALIENS NOOOOOO!" god I hate that video. Is it bad that I refuse to ride FoF unless its a walk on just because of the horrible video they show again and again in the que? Needless to say the park wasn't really bad at all. It truly was taking full advantage of the Gold Pass membership. We just went to the park for no reason in the middle of the week! we didn't book hotel rooms, didn't bring anything with us. We got there at 2pm, left there at 10pm. It was awesome...but considering I had been up since 6p.m. tuesday, and didn't do a good job of drinking water all day, it was rough on my body. After the second ride on Invertigo, my bro wanted to try out Drop Tower, but I had to pass on it. there were only like 6 minutes left until 10 anyway, but my head hurt, and my stomach was in knots... I think I would of been fine had i rested before I came.

Question the locker thing with Firehawk...
The locker thing is rediculous. They should just allow you to drop your stuff off in a classic bin. what makes even less sense is the way these coasters load, no one else really comes between you and your stuff. With the dual loading stations, the same car goes to the same side everytime, and no other car goes to those stations. The lockers are just truley a way to nickel and dime you. I think I've found a way around it: Pants with "zipper" pockets!
