  1. Chang rocks my friend! Its truley an awesome ride! And I am aware that Chang was a last minute addition to the park, in fact I remember the goofy radio commercials for it when they built it, and I went there shortly thereafter and had a blast that time. It was before the six flags name change anyway, not sure if they owned it yet. But I used to have a Chang shirt and it had the old red classic logo I miss that read "kentucky kingdom: the thrill park". Twisted twins was there at that point too, but wasn't open yet, still under construction. My problem with six flags is its seamed like since they've bought KK, they stopped expanding it, and what you have is one world class roller coaster paired with 5 other coasters that really aren't in the same league. And they got rid of the Vampire and I loved that ride! Pretty much just like face off except in a Vortex style train. They replaced it with Six Flag's old "tidal wave" machine and renamed it "greased lightning" and thats really not near as intense of a ride as Vampire. And there really just hasn't been anything new since. T2 is cool but dated... in fact I believe it is the very first of the inverted type coaster. I don't think I'd complain if I lived right next to KK, in fact I'd probably buy a season pass just to go ride chang, and play in the waterpark all summer long. Just seems kinda lame in comparison to say Six flags great America or Kings Island. anyway I do have to admit something about the Cobra. I miss the ride merely for nostalgic reasons. Honestly, being among the first of its kind, it was kinda lame, lets face it. One loop, and a bunch of small hills. I'd much rather have a new standup, or an old standup thats newer than the cobra relocated to KI, then for them to ever rebuild the Cobra. But I do miss the days of going to KI to ride the "big 4" (Vortex, Beast, Cobra, and Racer)
  2. The Vortex and Flight deck belts were smaller and tighter, and had some weird black circles on them this year. They actually admitted that when I asked them if anything had changed this year. Son of Beast is officially now the most weight forgiving roller coaster in the place! As is Adventure Express. Well I'm sorry I lost my temper there and on this board. I just don't like seeing my loved ones hurting. After she had to walk off top gun she acctually balled her eyes out for 10 minutes. I love my wife with all my heart, and I know The Vortex is also her favorite ride, and when she couldn't ride it, I just lost it. She really was looking foward to this trip for weeks, and out of the 5 coasters we rode, she was only able to acctually ride 2. But the good news is that she didn't miss the rides by a mile, more of a half an inch. Firehawk she was like half a click away from reaching the 2 click requirement. On top gun and The Vortex the seatbelt went in half way, just couldn't get to the point where it clicked. I think if she just lost 10 pounds...well it wouldn't help her on The Beast, Racer, or FoF, but everything else she'd be fine on.
  3. Still trying to figure out where the obscenities are everyone's talking about. I tend to talk like a sailor but I acctually held my language back in conversations to my family members with me. Yeah i did express my opinion about the the food, but there were no children around at that point, and its not like I screamed it. I kinda muttered that one under my breath.
  4. I do have a low opinion of high school kids. I remember how I was at that age. I was a dumb ass. And the kids I meet these days, even dumber. I have worked at lowes for 5 years now, on the Night stock crew, and I'm still the newest guy, mainly because they hire a bunch of straight out of high school 18 year old punks for our crew. They come in there, complain about everything, call in 3 out of 5 days a week, slack off and cry when a boss asks them to do something, bring illegal drugs into work, and then when they get fired or laid off, they are in their with their father claiming they didn't deserve it, and they didn't do anything wrong, and they have a lawyer and they'll sue everyone if they don't get their job back. Everyone they've hired is like that.
  5. Overall though it was just a bad trip. Its not my first one either. I've had some of the best and worst times at Kings Island in my life, I've been going since I was 9 years old (1989). I'm not going to give up on the park, afterall, theres not really any good alternatives nearby. I could go to holiday world, ride the raven and be bored the rest of the day, or I could go to six flags Kentucky Kingdom, and ride Chang and then be bored all day, but when it comes to a complete park, Kings Island is the closest, and best choice. I came home, wrote this, then went out with a friend to the bar to vent about my frustation to him, had a couple beers, and felt a little better. Today was just one of those days. It really just started bad to begin with. It started with me only being able to sleep 3 hours last night before we left (I work 3rd shift) and then continued with having to wait for Jackie and her brother to get off work, then Jackie who as driving up there, missed the turn to get on to 275 and we had to go around cincy to get back on track, added like a half hour to our trip time, then we get there and her brother starts wining and crying about food, then the weather turned poor, etc... no matter what we did, or what we tried, we could not save this trip to Kings Island. It was just one thing after another, and it just didn't work out this time. Before we left we thought we'd try to save it again, and we thought we might just fool around and have some fun. We got some blue icecream and headed over to the Viking ship...and we saw a KI employee blocking the entrance with a garbage can... that too me was a sign from god that it was just time to get out of there.
  6. my brother's a big guy, all he has to do is "suck it in a bit" and he can fit fine. Women gain weight differently. For guys all the weights in the gut. For my wife, well most of the weight is in her bottom end and chest. when they try to put a lap bar down on her her bottome end pushes her whole body up and her chest prevents over the should restraints such as The Vortex from coming down properly. Like I said I'm a pretty large guy myself, but I have no issues at all with the riding a coaster. A women's body is just built different than a guys. We are in the process of getting her approval for Gastric bypass. She went to a couple meetings for it, and talked to several girls who have gotten it. nearly the #1 response she got for why people got the expensive surgery, "so I could ride roller coasters again". And She can't "hit the treadmill" so easily. In fact at one point way before we met she was an average build athletic female who was very good at basketball. At one point she went up for a rebound, and landed wrong on her feet, and totally tore up the ligaments in her ankles. She's had 3 surgeries on them since, and she really can't run at all because of it. I think anyone who just says "she needs to make a lifestyle change" obviously has never been a smoker like me, who's had 200 "last packs" and gone 1 day, 2 days without a ciggerette, and the broke on the 3rd day. My quitting smoking and her emotional eating are the same thing. Its an addiction and it can't be easily broken. And it doesn't help she works for her crazy dad who owns a donut shop and engineering company and he stresses her out constantly with schedule changes, training of new employees, horrible pep talks, etc. In fact she was doing weight watchers a year ago and doing GREAT at it, and then her dad, who successfully switched to the 1200 calorie diet and lost like 150 pounds, told her that Weight watchers isn't a real diet, and she needs to try a 1500 or 1200 calorie diet. She listened to his advice, tried, failed, and ended up back at square one
  7. wow theres a bunch of ******** on this site I can tell. just browsing this thread. Probably why I don't come here a whole lot. Not everyone, but nothing like coming to a site to vent and being called a crybaby and a hothead. And to be told I'm not an adult. And then to insult my wife. YOu don't even know my wife . I have issues quitting smoking, she has issues qutting eating because she's an emotional eater, we are acctually in the process of trying to get approval for Gastric bypass surgery for her. And I'm sorry that some of you guys can apparently control your frustration better than I can. I did hold it in pretty well for 5 rides. The I exploded.
  8. Guys I'm sorry and yeah my comments on The Vortex were uncalled for and i agree it was stupid and immature. But it was just a bad day and that was pretty much the last straw and I lost it at that point. And it didn't help that her brother was being a whiny crybaby the whole trip whining about how tired and hungry he was the whole trip and talked about leaving early before we even had thought about that. We decided we wanted to ride The Vortex, our brothers wanted to go to Nick universe and ride the scooby doo ride. So at that point our brothers went their own ways and it was just me and her. And I ended up riding the ride by myself, and while The Vortex has always been my favorite ride it didn't even really phase me. her not being able to ride with me breaks my heart, it really does, and that was just the last straw. And it was so much of a last straw we grabbed our brothers and left afterwards. I wrote my post to completly vent my frustration, because it was a rough day. I really expected it to be dead, and 10 years ago when I was in high school, prom wasn't untill may, so that totally caught me off guard, and even she said "we better go now before prom starts". As for the Paramount/Cedar Fair switch I'm still 50/50. I like some of the things they did, hate some of the other things they did. Really the harnesses, and my wife who's always had a weight problem told me she never went to Cedar Point for that very reason. I'm sure its a good thing but we can't all be 5'8 and 90 pounds like these rides are obviously created for. I mean I am not by any means skinny, I'm a pretty average slightly overweight american, but I'm 6'2 250 pounds and while I have no trouble at all riding anything, my height makes the rides somewhat uncomfortable. I'll never understand why they can't make these cars just a little bigger. If they just made them say 5 feet longer they'd fit all sorts of people of different sizes and weight saftely, and the cab room would be more comfortable. I find it funny when I read about everyone complaining about the rumors they "might" change the cars on The Beast and racer, when I think "i'm all for it, they might acctually fit people over 6 foot and 250 pounds now!" Honestly, the Son of Beasts new cars fit both me and my wife pretty comfortably so I have no problems at all with them switching cars. Also though, on a side note, the weather ruined the day too. Weatherman can't predict crap I swear. I check the weather on friday and I see "Sunny, 72 degrees" and I get there and its cloudy with a cold chilling win, and a little bit of rain, at 61 degrees. No one's fault really, but yeah it was something that strained all of our moods. As for the Cedar Point owenership I see the positives as retheming and return to the old days, new coasters without sacrificing old rides, but the negatives I see horrible gawd awful muzak music, higher food prices, and unnecessary saftey restraints. I'm still trying to keep an open mind, but man. I still cant' get over the fact that these rides were just fine with the old fashine restraint systems designed for it. Take The Vortex, its been running since what 1987? All they've ever had for it was just the over the head restraint. You get in the car pull the restraint down, and your going no where unless your under 4 feet, in which your not going to be allowed to get on the ride anyway. Paramount didn't have a problem with that, why does Cedar Fair? And as for these saftey belts, if they want to add them then fine! but why not make them adjustable? I'm sorry but if you pay $80 for a season pass you should be able to ride anything you darn well please and thats how I feel!
  9. My trip totally sucked this time. I went with my wife, my brother, and my brother in-law. We pulled up about 11:30, and the place was packed. Hey guess what they hold proms earlier and their were a bunch of stupid high school kids flooding the park. I thought it was supposed to be dead on opening day? Not this time. At first it wasn't so bad but it got worse as the day went on. The park just kept getting busier and busier. Top Gun and Vortex now tighter restraints so now guess what? My wife can't ride them! As if it wasn't bad enough she was denied The Beast, The Racer, and FoF, now she can't even ride one of the best coasters in the park! Its for that reason and that reason alone I am hating Cedar Fair. Well not just that the music still sucks. Oh and the prices on food, horrible. We went to the festhaus for lunch after her brother wouldn't stop whining about being hungry, and Me and my wife got this exactly: Bacon cheesburger, chicken fingers, one order of fries (we split them) a bottle of water and a large vault. I pulled out a $20 and they go "your order comes to 26.58" and I replied "someone pick my clothes off the ground because I just got RAPED!" The employees at the festhaus sucked. My bro asked for some breadsticks and the chick goes "hold on let me check" and he waits like 8 minutes. She comes back and goes "do you need anything" and he's like "uh yeah breadsticks" and she goes "sorry we are all out". Wow it took her 8 minutes to tell us that! On The Vortex I lost it. After Jackie couldn't fit in the newly redesigned restraint I screamed "Cedar Fair SUCKS SELL THE PARK BACK TO PARAMOUNT." one of the chicks working there said "wow that was obscene" and Jackie goes "thats my husband" "oh I'm sorry for you" "well we just got gold pass memberships and after the new restraints on the rides i can't ride anything". Seriously Cedar Fair if the rides not broke DON'T FIX IT!!!! These rides have ran how long with the same restraints and how many accidents have occured? ZERO! We will be going back and the good news is she barely wasn't able to make it so after an extensive 1500 calorie diet in the month of may, we'll be all good. But yeah I will never ever ever go back on opening day again! What a bust and waste of time and gas!
  10. I would love to have a new Stand Up coaster! It will never happen as they are basically considered an "obsolete" type of roller coaster, but I'd love for a King Cobra 2. How about this. Since Kentucky Kingdom sucks so much, maybe have Cedar Fair purchase Chang from them, paint it Green and Yellow, and call it "King Cobra 2". Won't ever happen but I can always dream. I did love Chang the few times i went to KK, but Six Flags bought Kentucky Kingdom, got rid of the Vampire, and prevented any further expansion of the park. Sadly now you go there, ride chang, and thats about all there is to do.
  11. yeah I assumed the waterpark would be closed, thats understandable. Most swimming pools don't even open until after memorial day. I think I read May 24th or something for the waterpark. I'm going back on my birthday (june 2nd) to enjoy the waterpark. Speaking of which are they going to change the name back to "Water Works" since they are retheming the place to its 1980's form? Thats really what I'd like to see. I was never crazy about the "boomerang bay" name. Sounds like a six flags waterpark lol
  12. Well I'm excited. Me and my wife have season passes for Kings Island this year, so we are going on opening day! I already know about all the changes that Cedar Fair made, and I'm kind of excited about that. Apparently they are going nostaligic on us and bringing KI back to its original Glory. Also saw that they have a new ride thats under contruction. But thats not what this thread's about. Just wondering what can I expect. What rides will be open and what rides will be closed? And how busy is it usually on opening day? Already saw that the weather currently is looking beautiful for Kings Mills, OH! Really excited!
  13. Yeah I think they could of done a better job with some of the new names. "flight deck" seems so stupid. LOL they could retheme it and call it "The Bat". but that would be too much work. They could still do a better job that that. Problem is with TR:TR and Italian job is both of those rides were made with the movies in mind, so it makes me wonder how they are going to re-theme them. I still wonder why Face off and Drop Zone got re-named. They had no movie theming nor did they share the same logos with the movies, and their names made sense! And as for Drop Zone, does anyone really remember a crappy movie about Wesley snipes and parachutes? Drop Tower is kind of generic but Flight Deck is the worst name by far. Why not just remove the whole "jet simulation" theme alltogether? They could just call it "iron dragon" or something, after all it was built by the same company, near the same layout
  14. I KNEW this was going to happen! I said it last year that this year the Paramount movie names would come off all the rides. Going to take a little gettin used to but lets face it, rides were never meant to be named after movies to begin with.
  15. I hope its not a waterpark attraction. And as much as I'd love another coaster, I have to admit, theres not enough "flat rides" as people call them. How about a ferris wheel? Maybe buldoze that POS Tomb Raider and put the big log flume back in. And the Antique cars: Big Mistake. I was thinking about that. My mom would actually get on that ride. Very stupid move on Paramounts part, especially when they had PLENTY of room to put IJST elsewhere since KI is currently only sitting on a 4th of what they actually own. Anyway my point is the coaster experience is pretty good. And while we may not have a true hyper, we have the world's only wooden hyper! How about a unique indoor looping coaster? Or a flying dutchmen coaster? How about a classic steel looping coaster, or One of the world's best wooden coasters in the world? Yeah we could have a B&M this or a B&M that, but in all reality the coaster experience feels pretty complete when you ride every one of them. Now they need to enhance the "Family fun" part and put in more simple rides.
  16. I want dominator! They need to bring Dominator to KI!
  17. I liked the ride too. It was the bigger log flume. Its ashame it got replaced by a POS thats always broke down
  18. Anyway the ride's a couple years old now... if they can't get it running smoothly they need to buldoze it. All 3 visits to KI this summer it was broke down.
  19. so anyway why's tomb raider always broke now? How can they have so many problems with a simple rotating platform?
  20. I haven't been to the KI waterpark in over 10 years. I think it was my visit in 1996 when I last visited the waterpark, then called "waterworks". I know according to our timeline there was a renovation in 1997 and of course a rennovation and retheming done in 2004. So whats still there, and whats new? What was added/removed in 1997 and what was added/removed in 2004? Just curious. We were planning on visiting BB while we were there, but since we were staying at the great wolf lodge, we decided why not just stay there at the smaller indoor waterpark.
  21. Cormaster replied to KIlover's topic in Kings Island
Got to ride it 5 times during my last trip. Really smooth in the front, and really rough in the back.
  22. Cormaster replied to Racerrider's topic in Rumors
I know RCDB is still reporting Cobra as "in storage" but I could of swore I remember seeing track pieces in the area where Firehawk dominates now. Is it still there? After my recent trip to KI with all the coasters running and working, I don't really miss KC much. I've just come to accept it was an outdated model, and it really wasn't that thrilling. Very uncomfortable, 1 loop and a bunch of small hills. Newer models that have been built since its demise such as Italian Job Stunt Track, and Firehawk, prove to be more fun IMO.
  23. You mean this late in the season there are still rides with 45 minute to an hour wait at CP? Jeez, thats why I don't like going there, its always too busy. When I went to Kings Island a week ago or so there was no wait on anything except for Firehawk and it only had a 1/2 hour wait. So when is the best time to go to CP when it won't be ungodly busy. I still have nightmares about the last time i went. We were there for 12 hours, and in that 12 hour span I rode like 7 rides I think. Shortest wait was the 45 minute one for the corkscrew. It was a saturday, and yes the church youth group I went with in 1995, not very smart for picking that day. BUt yeah it was literally the most packed I had ever seen an amusement park! I eventually got sick of waiting and went into their Giant Arcade and thats when I first discovered Mortal Kombat 3, which might of been the highlight of my trip! After all, I was only 15 years old at the time.
  24. I just read that Water Works opened in 1989 and Flight Commander opened in 1990... So if a year apart doesn't justify "shortly thearafter" then I don't know what does
  25. Cormaster replied to Cody's topic in Rumors
It did seem to be in bad shape when I rode it. track looked pretty rusty and it was creaking really bad on the way up the hill. I could see them taking out top gun eventually as it doesn't seem to be a very popular ride at all.
