Sorry to read that you didn't get your usual thrill out of Slaughter House, but if you came through when they were letting in large groups I can understand. There was a period of time Saturday where they were letting in large groups, and unfortunately, as you know from your own personal experience working Haunt, that isn't the ideal situation to reset. Especially in my case, where I'm mainly a pop scare, but after my pop I was able to still freak some people out farther back in the groups. Fortunately the conga lines don't happen too often though, and I know overall I (and others in SH) felt like we did an excellent job that night. But if you were farther back in a conga line I can see how you could have felt the way you do. That just goes to show that a lot of factors can effect your Haunt experience. Exactly!

Tips for guests going to a haunted event.
XGatorHead 8904 replied to Haunt_Mouse's topic in Kings Island
That's what I do. I ignore them and let them pass right on through. Except for when I haven't emerged yet, and I can tell someone's acting tough... they have then made themselves my target when I do pop out, and 99 times out of 100 they jump just as much or even more than the rest of their group. Let's just say that Sam has an excellent hiding spot this year... -
Thank you so much for putting this together Ty! Given my long association with the park both as a guest and employee, I'm a sucker for park history. I'm lucky enough to have been around this event from the beginning, only missing out on two years of it ('05 & '06). Those early years of FearFest were fun. There was a very small crew of us (me and 2 others) that were responsible for going through the mazes before they opened to the public to clean up any loose articles that might be in them and to vaccuum them out. I'll always remember going through The Sewer and Pirate Jack's during the day of Opening Day to pick up loose nails/screws that the construction crews had left behind, and marvelling that we were actually doing a haunted event. I had always loved haunted houses and to actually combine that in a place I loved was sheer joy for me. We very quickly learned the best way to route people out the old season pass gate. And then there was one night, I believe it was the 2nd or 3rd Saturday that first year, I had taken the night off to go to my friend's bachelor party. At about 3:30am, I got a message on my pager from some coworkers (no, I will not confirm my exact location where I was when I got it... we'll just leave it at "bachelor party" ) that they were still there counting money, and that they had had numerous people from the admin office out selling tickets from aprons it was that busy. The next day we got word that NO ONE from that point on was allowed to be off during a FearFest night (so I subsequently missed my friends' wedding a few weeks later). I'll also always remember being on the cleaning crew the following years too, especially walking through Trail of Terror in the daylight it's first year and running into the "spiderwebs" hanging from the trees. I saw that it was fishing line, but didn't tell the other person about it. She walked through and started freaking out, thinking she was actually walking through spiderwebs. And then there was the time where I was vaccuuming Curse of the Crypt in the Coney games building. I knew nothing at the time about pressure pads (pads that, when stepped on, start something in motion). I was walking through trying to find an outlet for the vaccuum, and all of a sudden a mummy popped out at me. I jumped and quickly learned that those little bumps on the floor were there for a reason. From Day 1 of FearFest I was yearning to work in one of the houses. I always loved scaring people... just ask Mrs. Gator about the year the first Scream movie came out and how I got her when she was home alone, and the older neighborhood kids my neighbor and I used to gang up on during Halloween. But for those first 5 years I was "stuck" at the front gate because of the position I then held at the park. But then my whole world changed October 28th, 2004, and in 2008 after a little debate with myself I decided to make a return to the park for Haunt. I was lucky enough to be The Bouncer at Club Blood that year, and I had sooo much fun. In 2009 I made the switch to Slaughter House, where you can find Sam the Butcher now. I can say without a doubt that working Haunt is the most fun job I've ever had. Yes, it's physically exhausting, can take a toll on your voice and I wake up with my body aching the next day, but it is so worth all of that.

Maybe I should request a costume change for Sam then.

^That's better than wearing a Gidget bikini...

Oh, so that was you that blinded me with that bling!

A friend of mine who's coming up from FL this weekend just asked me this same question, so I've recently researched this. As CoastersRZ said, cheaper tickets can be purchased from the park's website. Taco Bell has coupons (I know this because I've eaten way too much Taco Bell in the past few weeks and I've seen the signs advertising the coupons). I don't know how much that discount is but I don't think it's likely that it's as good as the deal on KI's website which is $24.99 ($12 off the regular price of $36.99) on Fridays and $29.99 ($23 off the regular price of $52.99) on Saturdays.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! This is exactly what I love to read! (Although don't get me wrong, I like to read if people don't like it too, as long as it gives reasons why they didn't like it and not just "it sucked". But there's nothing quite like reading positive reviews like these!) I know a lot of us in there feel that we were better last year than the first year, and Saturday we were feeling very good about how we did so we're on the right track to being even better this year. I personally changed up my scare tactics on Saturday, and got some of my best scares ever in my four years of doing Haunt. I'll definitely be doing the same things from now on. I won't give anything away, but just know that in a certain room Sam is watching and waiting... waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike! You love us! You really, really love us! XGatorHead, going all Sally Field on you today.

^It all depends on your cold amusement threshhold. If riding coasters etc. in the cold weather doesn't bother you, then it should be a good night to go. Individual results may vary. Bundle up!

I believe its the way it smells, at least it did last year! There was no smell to Slaughter House last year. Two years ago however, it had a certain distinct aroma to it!

In regards to the no re-entry policy, CF is just continuing what Paramount started. Since it's inception, no re-entry was allowed during FearFest, and that policy was carried over to Haunt. Before FearFest, and before Paramount, no re-entry was allowed during Grad Night either (at least as far back as 1989 when I started working in the park if not before; although I've heard accounts that re-entry was allowed in the earlier years of Grad Night) so the no re-entry policy is not without precedent. Or walk across a snowy frozen tundra of a parking lot in shorts!

It was up on the Eiffel Tower, and was only in existence for the first year of Fear Fest.

Uh oh. Only one vote for Slaughter House so far. Sam's not too happy about that. I have the feeling he's going be taking that out on people tomorrow night.

Besides Nightmare Alley in PS and Cemetary on IS, there are roamers in AZ, Coney Maul, and I believe there are even some in Rivertown.

In '07 Mrs. Gator & I just sat and watched the chainsaw guy at Worksite chase people for quite a while. I love chainsaws!

And here it is, from the email newsletter I got from them today: http://editor.ne16.c...MailID=21319421 -
I'm having a great time too. I've been getting some of my best scares ever too with my new spot in Slaughter House! I would hope so! That's exactly what I like... humor mixed in with the horror. Slaughter House has a lot of good people in it, and we love to have fun with our guests, mixing scares and humor. I know that after the initial startle, Sam is pretty humorous. He's just your average cannibalistic butcher trying to make an honest living and doing what's best for Mama and the rest of the twisted family.

^Sam underwent a wardrobe change this year, as well as a change in the room he frequents. Sam now wears a blue doo-rag on his head and tends to hang out in the kitchen now rather than the butcher room.

Yes, there are now chainsaws in Slaughter House. Yay!!!!

When it's sunny, I wear sunglasses with no strap and have never lost a pair yet. I also wear contacts and have not lost one of those yet either. On the rare occasion of riding with my regular glasses, I usually have a strap for those since their more expensive than the cheap sunglasses I always get. I've only had a problem with glasses on one ride, which was Invertigo (Face/Off at the time). I lost one of the lenses out of my prescription glasses while riding it. That lens liked to pop out from time to time anyway, so I wasn't too surprised when it happened.

^Especially on the way back to the motel!
