For All You Parents Who Say Your Kids Don't Know Peanuts
XGatorHead 8904 replied to XGatorHead 8904's topic in Kings Island
ABC airs it's fifth Peanuts special of the off-season, "Happy New Year, Charlie Brown", tonight at 8:00pm. In this, Charlie Brown has to read War & Peace during the holidays, so he misses a surprise on New Year's Eve. -
I assume you're asking me how I recognized that one person. All I can say is, the situation was an interesting one. This person had caused headaches for us on numerous occasions in the past, in particular my department. So the supervisors and most of the line associates that worked for me at the time knew who this person was. And another thing that helped was that he tried to enter when the turnstiles weren't too busy. It was during Fearfest, and it was after the initial rush of people. If he had tried to come in a little earlier, he may have been able to slip by. I emphasize the "may" because, like I said, many people in the department knew him. And I just remembered this... when park police asked him what he was doing back at the park, he said that he didn't think that his ban applied to FearFest! As for your other question on how they know if a person has a pass or not, I'm not able to answer that because I've never worked in Security at the park.

I use IE 7 here at work and getting those problems. I forget what I have at home, but I think it's IE 8 and I have the same problems there.
-
Yes, repeat trouble makers have been banned before, and season passes have been revoked. I've been involved in several situations of that sort in the past (not as the person being kicked out, but as one of the people involved in the situation on behalf of the park). And people have tried to re-enter while banned. I had one situation where I clearly remembered the person, and he tried to come back a few months after he was banned. I just happened to be out near the turnstiles, he saw me and left the rest of his group to go back out to the car. I followed him, got park police and he was escorted off park property again. And the funny thing was, the park police officer that responded was the one involved in his ban the first time. When he pulled up to us in the park police car, he got out and said to the guy, "What?!?!?! You again?!?!?" I had to stop myself from laughing when he said that!

Apparently with this new skin, we can't change the little secondary line under the topic's title. Anyway, "I Want a Dog for Christmas, Charlie Brown" airs tonight on ABC at 8:00pm. I don't think I've seen this one before, but it features Snoopy and his brother Spike. I always liked Spike in the comic strip. Since I'll be watching Monday Night Football, I'm recording this one to watch tomorrow. And who says Peanuts are never on TV? -
Another good TR from you, Avatar. You made good use of your short time there. I was surprised to see in your pics how dead the park was... it was quite a bit busier when we went last month. If it was like that when we went, I wouldn't have gotten the Q-Bot. I agree with you about the Carol of the Trees show. I was expecting more from it, and GatorGirl got bored easily with it. The light show on Swan Lake at the Cincinnati Zoo was better IMO. But everything else at Dollywood was top notch. I knew you'd like Mystery Mine! I'm glad to hear that you plan to take the family down next summer. I'm sure they'll like it. And you can hit some of the things that you didn't have time to do this time, such as the train. Our family is seriously considering making Christmas in the Smokies a yearly traditon. Stalkerchick - I'm totally jealous... I want to go back! If I went, you'd have more support for getting the group to Dollywood!

I'll have to try my home computer. The problem is, I do most of my KIC time at work!
-
I forgot to add in my post above that I also have a problem with ferris wheels. Not the giant ones where you're basically sitting in a bird cage like at CP, Navy Pier in Chicago or Hersheypark, but the smaller two person seaters like at Coney, or the one that used to be at KI near Festhaus. I feel that if I lean over just a little too much, out I'll go. But I still ride them... I just sit perfectly still!
-
I know I've said this on here before, but the only problem I have with heights is what I call "unsupported heights". I'm fine on coasters, Eiffel Tower, Drop Zone, etc. because I feel nice and secure being in restraints, or behind bars in the case of ET. But get me on a tall ladder, and I do not like it at all! When we were painting the trim of our house a few years ago, I absolutely HATED doing the sides where the roof comes to a peak. As far as rides at KI, the one I find most terrifying is Xtreme Skyflyer. Being suspended from a cable, looking straight down at the ground, with just a harness between me and the ground is scary. But that doesn't stop me, I love that ride! I rode it closing day this year with Rotag, and as we were going up I told him about my fear. He commended me and said it was great that I ride it anyway. What can I say, I like pushing my limits! Now if only I could get out to Vegas again to try Insanity, X-Scream and Big Shot...

^It's in the Fast Reply, and when I click the Add Reply button, and when I edit my signature. It would probably happen in PM's too, but I haven't tried that yet. Edit: I just tried the PM and it didn't happen there, probably because there's no toolbar in the pop up box that appears. But now, as I'm editing this post, the toolbars are covering up the first few lines of this post, instead of being in the middle of the text box. Ugh!
-
Is anyone else experiencing this problem? When I type a reply, or when I edit my signature as I did the other day, the toolbars for font styles, alignment, emoticons, etc. appear in the middle of the text box, not at the top. It makes it very frustrating when I'm typing so much that when the text I'm typing gets to the middle of the box, I end up typing behind the toolbars and can't see what I'm typing. Help! (This line is being tped behind the toolbars, so I cannot be held responsible for any possible misspelling!

Dollywood Christmas Opportunity
XGatorHead 8904 replied to Avatar's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
We just went on Nov. 14th, the first time I had been to Dollywood in about 8 years. I agree with what others have said. If you like themed rides, which I know you do being a WDW fan, do not miss Mystery Mine! Also, Thunderhead has firmly placed itself at #3 on my list of favorite wood coasters. Blazing Fury is a lot of fun, and Tennessee Tornado is a great Arrow... too bad I didn't have time to fit it in this last time. Babes in Toyland and Twas the Night Before Christmas are excellent. I highly recommend both. Also, if you have time, go see Heartsong... it has a few surprises! And one thing I haven't seen mentioned yet, their train is a must! Unfortunately we didn't have enough time to squeeze it in this time, and that's a major reason we decided we want to go again next year. Plus the whole atmosphere of the park is great. I also highly recommend getting the Q2Q Q-Bot. I know you have probably already done your research and know all about it, but if for some strange reason you haven't, see my post here: http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?...st&p=350274. I hope to see a TR from you! I plan on getting one up here eventually, but I've just been crazy busy lately. Have fun! -

I just found the quote online: "Boy what a sound. How I love hearing that old money clank. That beautiful sound of cold hard cash. That beautiful, beautiful sound, nickels, nickels, nickels. That beautiful sound of clinking nickels." -

I just remembered something that I was laughing at hysterically last night. When Charlie Brown goes to Lucy at the Psychiatrist booth, she demands to be paid in advance. After Charlie puts his nickel in the can, she picks the can up and starts shaking it, saying something to the effect of "Nickels, nickels, nickels! I love the sweet sound of nickels!" A certain someone came to mind immediately... And now we know the true reason we're getting Peanuts next year... a shared love of nickels! I'll have to watch it again next week so I can get the exact quote down. -

That Muppets special, "Letters to Santa", was new last year. I recorded it to dvd when it was on last year because my daughter loves The Muppets. I like the part in the Italian restaurant: "We don't talk to no rats!" And Paul Williams as an elf? Perfect! "Shrek the Halls" is on tonight. I love that one! -

This is from wikipedia (so take it for what that's worth), but it addresses what you said: -

Well, tomorrow ABC's airing the original Peanuts special, "A Charlie Brown Christmas" at 8:00pm, and repeating it on Tuesday the 15th. And is it just me or is "Christmas Time is Here" the most depressing Christmas song ever written? -XGator "I never eat December snowflakes. I always wait until January" Head 8904 -
I agree that Disney's FastPass system is the fairest, and I use it every time I'm there. But Dollywood's QBot system is amazing! I used it on our trip a few weeks ago. For those of you who don't know about it, you rent this device ($15 for one person, $5 each addtl person, up to 6 people). You can reserve seats for shows at the time you rent it, and they hold seats for you up until 5 minutes before the show starts (you also get to enter the venue through a separate entrance). The device will beep and vibrate 30 minutes before the show's start time. The device itself will also allow you to "reserve" a spot in line at certain rides (I think there were 6 rides available), much like Disney's FastPass. It shows you the wait time for each ride, and with a few pushes of the buttons, you're given a time to go to the ride. Once you get to the QBot entrance at the ride, a ride op takes another QBot, holds it next to yours and clears out your reservation for that ride (and you can then reserve another ride), and you're right on the ride. Visiting with a 5 year old, this was perfect. The show lines were VERY long, and I couldn't imagine waiting in them with GatorGirl. The QBot also allowed us to do other rides in the the Country Fair section while we "waited in line" for Sky Rider, and it allowed me to make better use of my time when I split off on my own to ride Mystery Mine and Thunderhead, while Mrs. Gator and GatorGirl rode the Ferris Wheel (yes, they only rode one ride while I was able to ride 2, and attempted to ride a 3rd... but I just couldn't squeeze into Timber Tower..., using the QBot). The advantages of QBot over Disney's FastPass are: the ability to see queue line wait times from anywhere in the park, the ability to reserve your spot in line without having to go the actual ride to do so, and the ability to reserve seats for shows. It really helped us make the most out of our one day at Dollywood. Now, does KI need such a system? For the most part, I don't think so, but it would be nice. If I only have one day to visit a park, which is often the case when I go elsewhere besides KI, I want to make the most of my day. FastPass/QBot definitely does that. But most days at KI, you're able to get on rides fairly easily. The exceptions would be Saturdays, and days with special events. As a passholder, I wouldn't use it at KI, but if I were a once a year visitor, I definitely would.

I would say your information is safe on KI's website (once the store becomes official). They've been selling season passes and tickets online for years.

It's that time again... the second of the five holiday Peanuts specials, "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving", airs tomorrow at 8:00 on ABC. I love this one, in which Snoopy fights with a lawn chair and sets the table faster than anyone else ever could, then he plays the chef and fixes the gang popcorn, pretzels, jelly beans and toast for dinner, and Peppermint Patty goes off on Chuck for not having turkey and all the fixings (after she invites herself over and brings all the other guests). OK, so this special always loses me a little when Linus does his Myles Standish monologue, but other than that it's great. It's paired with another Peanuts show, "The Mayflower Voyagers", in which the Peanuts gang reinact coming over on the Mayflower. Why they show this on Thanksgiving and not on some other less busy night, I have no idea. But I'll be recording it so we can watch it later! -XGator"I haven't even finished all of my Halloween candy yet!"Head 8904 -
They did that the first year of FearFest. It was called "The Sewer in 4-D", and was located in the Festhaus. It was replaced the following year by "Circus of Horrors".

Voyage to get new trains for 2010
XGatorHead 8904 replied to csikoth's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I agree! The Racer's a classic, and it just wouldn't feel right with those new trains. Same with The Beast. I wouldn't mind them on SoB though, especially if they make the ride smoother as claimed. -
Very easily, SD&THC. Not just because it's the end of that ride, but mainly because it signifies the end of Scooby at the park. As a child of the 70's, I grew up with Scooby there and it just won't be the same without him. I'll miss DD, but not as much because I don't get up to CP that often. SoB I can live with or without. I like riding it, but it's nowhere near my favorite ride in the park. Nick U... well, I didn't like Nick kicking out HB, but I understand it from a business perspective. GatorGirl liked the Nick characters, but we both like the Peanuts gang. Welcome to KI, Snoopy!

Thanks! I was wondering how long they kept that picture up there. As soon as we got off the ride, it was already up on the screens in front of the registers. The girl working there said her manager liked it so much that he wanted it to be their main picture. I told her that was fine with me. I had that picture planned for weeks. It's just too bad I even had to do it though, I'll miss Scooby!
