  1. I don`t know if they have to show a rendering of the sign or if they just have to provide dimensions for how big the sign is going to be. If they just have to provide dimensions, then it is not any bigger than what the old one was. however, I believe that zoning meetings are open to the public, at least in Anderson Township they are. If the park does have to provide a rendering, then I`m sure one could find out by attending the zoning meeting in which that was on the agenda.
  2. I see. I think that a partnership can work out well between the two sites. I`m sorry I misunderstodd that. I understand how you could be so busy that you needed some help to run the site. I`ve been putting in some long hours attending class at UC. This past thursday I was in class from 8 in the morning until 9:30 at night and I didn`t finish my work until around midnight.
  3. Yeah, DragonLord, last I heard, the sign won`t be ready for opening day either. I heard that they are planning on having it ready by early summer. I would imagine that they are being held up on the zoning variance from Mason if I had to take a guess, seeing how they already have Paramount Pictures approval.
  4. I was just over on Yahoo on the History of Kings Island Club. I noticed that that club is now under new "management" and that a partnership has formed with PKIUnlimited. On that site it says that the excellent pictures that are over there will eventually find their way to this site. This is a plus as I know Yahoo didn`t have very much space to store the pictures. There are tons of historic pictures of PKI up on that site. I can`t wait to see the picture integrated into PKIU. I just hope that they aren`t placed in the new exclusive section of the site.
  5. Thanks for all the information! We don`t do anything like that at Coney. The only thing we do is count the number of tickets each ride recieves at the end of the day. Which does little to determine how many people ride the rides since there are far more rides bracelets than people using individual tickets. Probably the most popular ride at Coney are the Dodgems.
  6. I don`t know about a picture, but i know one is pictured on the Brady Bunch episode when they visited the park and stayed at the Kings Island Inn and Resort. That episode is usually repeated on Nick at Night or on TVLand every now and then.
  7. I know that on PKI`s website they have a number of riders for particular rides. My question is do the ride operators keep track of how many people ride their rides in an hour/how many cycles are run in an hour? Are the numbers on the PKI website accurate? How do they count the number of people on the coasters? I know some rides (at least used to anyway) have turnstiles that counted how many people entered line. Now I know some flat rides use a hand counter to keep track of number of riders. I think I remember seeing something on a whiteboard on the door to The Beast`s control booth that mentioned total number of cycle in a day, or something similar to that.
  8. In all honesty, from my one visit at Oscars when I was volunteering up there, I didn`t find any thing wrong with Oscars. Of course I would have to work at the park to have an honest opinion about Oscars. In comparison to Coney`s employee cafeteria, at least they have food ready for when you go in on your break. At Coney, sometimes it would take twenty minutes (or more) to make your food. That doesn`t leave a lot of time to eat your food on a thirty minute break! The best thing about Coney`s employee cafeteria is that it is air conditioned and away from the GP.
  9. I am using Safari, the Mac version of IE or Netscape. Actually, I just got it to load. I pushed option when I hit the refresh button and it popped up.
  10. Well, I still can`t view PKI`s main page of their website at 9:22am. It still says down due to scheduled maintenance. I also can`t visit Carowinds main page of their website.
  11. AndyatUC, yes this has been on the PKI website for quite some time. The reason opening weekend is three days this year, is that it falls on Easter weekend, and that Friday is Good Friday, so a lot of schools are closed that day (with UC being an exception!). Yes, I too noticed the increase in days the park is open until midnight. I also noticed that the park will only be open until 9 on Sundays in October. How are they going to do Fear Fest when the outdoor attractions are only open for about an hour? Also, has anyone else noticed that all five of the Paramount Parks websites main pages as well as the Parmount Park website`s mainpage has been down since early on Tuesday? As of 12:47 am on Wednesday, they are still down. Could this be the upgrade/modification that Jeff Siebert mentioned on the Boomerang Bay Tour?
  12. I really don`t think that LaRosa`s was made famous entirely by PKI. Yes, PKI has helped them become popular among out of towners and tourists, but most locals have know the chain, which incidentally is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
  13. I love the smell of LaRosa`s. Nothing can beat strolling toward The Beast or Tomb Raider and catching the smell of LaRosa`s pizza lofting from Rivertown Pizza. I don`t think the park should replace LaRosa`s. Kings Island and LaRosa`s are both Cincinnati traditions. Why woule we want the park to get ride of more of its local flavor for more corporate theming and branding?
  14. I knew their was a tie in with Cincinnati WaterWorks somehow.
  15. On the tour, Jeff mentioned that all the platforms for slides will have coverings so that it will bne shady at the top and not blinding sun. I know that the support structure for the awnings was in place for the construction tour. Either they put it in when they removed the other ones from the park, or they went ahead and put in the framework now to check off another item on the lilst before opening day in May.
  16. At the Boomerang Bay construction tour, Jeff said that the new sign had already been approved by Paramount Studios. However, he said that the park has had to apply for zoning variances to build a sign of the same size as the one that fell down due to changes in the zoning laws. If they didn`t aplly for zoning variances, they would only be able to build a sign about half the size of the old one, and because the old one was destroyed, it was not grandfathered into the codes, so they had to apply for variances. It is my understanding that the new sign will be more flashier than the old one with more graphics. I think I heard somewhere that the new sign will not be completed until early summer.
  17. I woould assume that the park would still sell some HB merchandise, considering their largest of the two children`s areas is themed to Hanna Barbera. At the very least they will sell Scooby merchandise because of the Haunted Castle being built last season. Howeve, I remember hearing in a TR from No Coaster Con that there will be a Nickelodeon parade in the park this season, which is a step in the direction of more theming like the Florida and California themers. Also, it is a step away from the classic Hanna Barbera characters that have been a staple in the kiddie land of the park for the past 32 years.
  18. So does that mean the park process all of its water straight from the Little Miami River? I`m assuming that it is water strictly for fire supression (sprinklers) and landsaping and not drinking water or for the waterpark. Obviously, they don`t use the water for the waterpark otherwise there wouldn`t have been a huge news story about the waterpark not getting enough water from Cincinnati`s Water Works. (Which was resolvede, by the way, in case you forgot.)
  19. Hopefully in time, with Paramount`s Kings Island`s world class wood coaster maintenance department, they will tame the roughness of SoB. When that day finally arrives, PKI will have one awesome, world class collection of wooden coasters. (they already have an awesome collection, but SoB can be rough on some days!)
  20. It is a terrain coaster. This is because its lift hill climbs out of a former creek valley. The major drop, along with the drop into the loop is located in the valley created by the creek (the same creek that Top Gun flies over). However, for construction of Son of Beast, they tunneled a large portion of the creek to prevent erosion. While SoB is a terrain coaster, it is not as much of a terrain hugging coaster as its 25 year old papa across the park.
  21. As far as I know, all the restaurants in PKI are operated by PKI and PKI employees, with the exception of Madarin Cuisine. I believe that the park franchises the chains that are in the park, Skyline, LaRosa`s, Montogmery Inn, Subway, and Bubba Gump`s Shrimp Shack. I know for a fact that these eateries are run by park employees, and sometimes volunteers when they are short of workers (I volunteered and ended up working at Subway the Friday before Labor Day.) As for the hamburgers, fries and other miscellaneuos stuff, I don`t know who their food service provider is. Someone who worked in foodservices would know more than me. Also, from what I remember hearing somwhere, LaRosa`s was not going to be the pizza served at PKI. Instead, when they were building the park, they wanted a piza chain from Dayton in the park. However, that chain didn`t want to pay the money the park wanted. LaRosa`s was willing to and hence we have LaRosa`s pizza in the park. Also, I do believe that LaRosa`s has always been in the park. The Rivertown PIzza building has always and still does just say "Pizza" on the outside.
  22. It depends partly on what age you are! I think most adults and older children woould probably say Scooby. However, some of the younger kids might prefer some of the small flat rides. When i was a kid, the whip and the hand powered cars were always favorites! I personally think Scooby is the best, but The Beastie is a small wooden coaster that can pack a punch (and sometimes provide a little air in the back row).
  23. I think that the themed part of Top Gun`s queue is gone forever. The reason is that it required a crew member to have that added portion of queue open. Also, on a normal operating day, the line is not long enough to require that additional queue, so that would add to the already long walk to get to the station. Not to mention the fact that some of that theming has fallen apart since they quite allowing guests through there and they in turn quite maintaining it.
  24. I don`t know what that building was for. I do know, that it is no longer there and is situated as CoasterKrazy said, where some King Cobra parts once or are stored at. I do know that in that general vicinity is where the park had Pyscho Path for Fear Fest. Actually, the entrance to that Haunt I believe was in front of that building. I believe that there are trees on that site now as I don`t remember any bilding to the left when entering Pyscho Path, but of course it was pitch black and foggy.
  25. From what I have heard, they made some sort of modification to the trains of The Racer. As a result, the trains became heavier and needed more room to stop. In order to do that, they had to remove the final bunny hop. That is the reasoning that I heard behind its removal anyway.
