40th Anniversary...how about a History of KI area?
RD Reynolds replied to RD Reynolds's topic in Kings Island
I actually have it on pretty good authority that an area such as we are discussing is something being considered by KI in the "foreseeable future". Fingers crossed, folks! -

Again, it doesn't have to be something big. Like I said, take the Skyline restaurant on IS, put up some photos, some old ride pieces. Run the video like someone suggested. It would take literally a day or two to put something in there, and the cost would be very, very minimal. -
40th Anniversary...how about a History of KI area?

Yeah, this wouldn't be that hard to do. Even if they just did a revamp of, say, the Skyline restaurant on IS, with pictures and that video playing...maybe a prop or two...it would be something that could be done pretty easily. -
Ok, it's the 40th anniversary (logo looks great BTW), so let's just throw it out there...why not have a small area of the park that has a history section? Could literally just be a room somewhere (hey, I hear there's a giant box out between Diamondback and The Beast not going to be doing much until Haunt, maybe there?), doesn't need to be huge or elaborate. Just have some pictures from the past, maybe old ride props, sound tracks from attractions no longer used? It wouldn't take much, and would be a huge thing from folks to appreciate all the park has done over the years. Eh, who am I kidding? I just REALLY want to hear that old train sound track with the geezer saying, "There'll be no eatin', drinkin', or smokin' on this here train...we're goin' through some mighty nice country and wouldn't want to mess it up!"

I loved it, but as a tall person, it was a painful experience. Basically, you "stood" as you sat on a bicycle seat. It would "ride up" so to speak. Then they harness went over your shoulders, forcing you down. Yes, onto the seat even tighter. There's a joke to be made about all this, and my friends and I make it all the time...but this is a nice, courtesy, familial place, and I shan't make it here.

Downtown Disney (Orlando)
RD Reynolds replied to kingsrattler's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
You can also take a boat from DTD to Port Orleans resort. That's actually my favorite of the moderate resorts, and actually has two different resorts within it, Riverside and Port Orleans. From there you can take a bus to whatever park you want, or ride the boat back to DTD. Keep in mind that DTD is not a park, but a shopping complex. There are lots of good places to eat, and the largest Disney store you will ever see. Also has a Disney Christmas store that is pretty amazing. But yeah, it's shopping, shopping, and more shopping. -
I thought it was a tortilla factory. Was when I was there a few years back...

Should have had another option: 10 Stars. That would be for Beast...at NIGHT. By far the best time to ride it!

What I would give for a dark boat right at KI again...sigh... -
Attempted to ride it in the early years, but was literally too tall for it. A few years later I decided to try it again...and squeezed onto it. Not sure if the cars changed, or the fact that I had lost weight somehow got me on. Whatever the case may be, I found it to seriously be the roughest ride I'd ever been on in my life. I told my wife, "Never ever let me ride that again." I literally felt like I'd been beaten with a pillowcase full of doorknobs. The bizarre thing is I LOVE wood coasters...Beast and Racer are my fave rides at KI.

Awesome. I really miss that flume. Was so, so fun.

Note all the mentions of theming on the brochure. If I could have but one KI wish granted, it wouldn't be for any new coaster but a re-emphasis on theming in the park.

Absolutely awesome. Thank you for sharing!

The amusement park shirts are great, but I totally geeked out when I saw one for ZANTIGO~~!!! Oh how I miss thee, Zantigo!! -
That one is cool too, because it has items outside the park. Very neat indeed!

Happy to share. I'll try to get a shot of my 1982 map here one of these days.

Got this from a friend a few months back thought it would be cool to post it. I believe it's a reprint of the original KI map created in 2002. My scan isn't the best, but I'd be happy to at least tell you what any items you have questions on are. On my poster, the text is crystal clear, so yep, I can do that. I love these old maps, so I am always interested in seeing them. Hope others enjoy it as well.

I have the ability to create murals at my work, we do it all day long. Any chance we could get a high res version of that file?

I have one of the original park map. It's actually a reprint for KI's 30th anniversary. Also have one from 1983, full sized, original. Love old park maps, also have one of Magic Kingdom and Epcot in the same time frame.

Haven't been on here in a while, but had I known this thread had returned, I would have! Awesome shots. Love the opening day photo...you don't have any pictures of SAUSAGE HAUS do you? Still fascinated at the concept.
