Record Season For Holiday World
violakat03 replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Five visits this year for me, and it was my first year ever going there. Next year, I intend to be a season pass holder. I was completely blown away by that little park. -
I saw some Scooby bucks in a cashier's drawer yesterday. I didn't know they were still in use until I saw that. I know they still had Scooby bucks (hadn't gone to Dora bucks yet) when I worked in merch in 02 and 03.

Sunday the park was empty. All the rides were open that could be open .. keep in mind that weather affects which rides will be open. I believe it was too cold for Drop Tower, it was closed most, if not all of the day. Even after the park transformed to Haunt, the rides, and haunts, were all walk-ons. Diamondback was a station wait, Beast only had people waiting for front seat, and Vortex, Racer and Flight of Fear were complete walk-ons.

I noticed that many of the props, such as the Days-of-Thunder-turned-police-car, wrecked cars and street signs, from Worksite have migrated over to Urgent Scare's exit.

King Cobra's trains was in the FOF building the last time i did a tour with the lights on. They were along the end of the ride. They got shipped off to Kings Dominion towards the end of last year and are being used as spare parts for Shockwave's trains. I just felt the need to post about this .. I tried to get a lights off ride on Friday night. At least one ride op confirmed that last year the lights went completely off at midnight but he wasn't sure if they did the same this year. I rode it at about 12:50 and the 'effect' lights (the colored lights at the bottom of the bowl) were still on. We then waited for the very last train of the night, which launched at about 1:05 am and they were still on. So, no complete pitch-black rides this year, sadly! Though the guy driving it (wish I'd gotten his name) was really nice and I have a feeling would have given us a lights on ride if we'd asked. He made sure all the lights he could turn off were off.

I think one of the shirts I have (and love) is rather on the obscene side, but I busted out laughing when I saw it in the gift shop and had to have it. On the back it says "I'd rather ride a woodie." As for other interesting shirts, one that I first spotted at KI and have since seen at several other Cedar Fair and Six Flags parks says "Natural High" and shows a silhouette of Magnum. It just really bugs me to have a shirt with a coaster from a different park on it. There's also one that has random coaster terms on it like barrel roll, vertical loop, etc and has 'stratacoaster' as one of the terms. That bugs me too as there is only one stratacoaster in Cedar Fair parks and therefore it should not be on shirts at all their parks. I saw that shirt at KI, Michigan's Adventure and Kings Dominion. *steps off soapbox* Posted from my BlackBerry mobile device.

I think they're hiding the Crypt's old program in there, along with it's extra seats.
-
Yeah, tomorrow is looking to be a messy day too. I'm wondering if tonight's expected high winds and flood watch are contributing factors. And I'm hoping they're open tomorrow for a variety of reasons! Posted from my (new) BlackBerry mobile device.
-
Yes, but then they wouldn't have the chance to try to shake out some extra nickels from your pockets.
-
I got to see the "wall of monsters" at Kings Dominion last Saturday. That's the first time I've ever seen anything like it. It was REALLY cool.
-
I heard from a ride op last year that if you want a completely pitch black ride on FOF, go at the very end of a Haunt night, like around 12:45, and you might get your wish. I really enjoyed my lights on rides during RWW (been wanting one for YEARS), but I'm also hoping to get my first completely lights off ride some time this year!
-
If past Fridays have been any indicator, you can probably get through everything you haven't been through yet and revisit some of your favorites from last year. Granted, you won't be able to get any rides in at the same time. I'll be making use of tomorrow night to power lap on Diamondback and get some foggy night rides on Beast while everyone else is in the haunts.

It's the merch people that would care, not security. I've seen the merch people reattach the chain when I've unattached it to use the shortcut and avoid the gift shop when I'm power-lapping. But usually, the most I get as far as a reaction is the employee rolling his eyes as he puts the chain back up. At least they've stopped blocking off the first door. I hate that because then you had to weave through people trying to buy things just to get out of the darn store. It caused a lot of chaos, I heard a lot of things get broken, and it was annoying whether you were buying something or not!

When Adam told me about this the other day, my immediate reaction was "well, no CoasterMania for me next year." I missed HoliWood nights this year for ACE Dives at Busch Gardens Europe, something I will never regret doing because it allowed me to ride the Big Bad Wolf before it was too late. However, all the great stories from HWN09 made me decide it was a definite for next year. CM09 didn't impress me as much as I expected it to, especially with the crowded ERT sessions. I'm not getting into the "which park is better and why" argument, I'm just saying that I think I will prefer going to HoliWood Nights over CoasterMania. So, that will be at least one less person at CM next year!

I'm really glad to hear one of Libertyland's two historic rides is being taken care of. Now if only they'd show the same care for the classic Miller coaster that's sitting there rotting at the fairgrounds. It really disturbs me that they're talking of tearing down buildings and other structures on the site and that there was no word about the Zippin Pippin and what the plans for it are. I haven't seen the Pippin since I moved out of Memphis in 2007, but last I saw, it was getting a bit overgrown and was completely neglected.

Ok, so I realized something after posting my last reply and I just HAVE to ask this. How on earth did Tom manage to lose his shirt in LINE for DB?!!!!!??!! -

Angie, great trip report (like always). I'll admit I got a good laugh out of the fact Backlot stole Tom's phone! Almost as good as me losing mine to Gemini! Also, the photo you sent me of the slide made Nick and I crack up in line for El Toro. Glad you guys had a lot of fun. I'd say I wish I could have been there, but 19 rides on El Toro were too awesome to miss out on! -
Mine would have to be The Beast. This is the first year I've ever tracked my rides, and also the first year I've been to the park this much other than the 2 years I worked there, but I know in years past The Beast was always a top priority for me and I rode it every single trip. A close second would probably be Flight of Fear. When I worked in the water park, I used to run across the park after I got off and ride Flight of Fear as many times as I could before close (there were nights I did the same with Beast if I knew I couldn't get to FOF in time). My record was 7 in a row in the last 30 or 45 minutes of operation. Also pretty high up there would be King Cobra and recaR.

KI workers/guests: Need Ghost Stories for Publication
violakat03 replied to alluna's topic in Kings Island
The only haunting I've really heard about at KI besides Tower Johnny is that supposedly one of the control towers (tower 2 IIRC) on White Water Canyon is haunted. I've never been up there but I've heard from people that have that you'll feel someone tap on your shoulder and there's no one there, or things being moved around behind you. -

It's close for me. The Beast's helix or Diamondback's splashdown. I'm going to give the helix the edge though because it's exciting in all seats, whereas the splashdown is the best in row 16.
-
I lost a pocket full of stuff on Diamondback the other day. I know that my Six Flags season pass, car insurance card, debit card and ACE membership card were among the things missing. The ACE card's the only thing I know has been found so far. I didn't even realize they were missing until the next day!

1. Diamondback 2. Son of Beast 3. Racer 4. Flight Deck 5. Vortex 6. Invertigo Last: Beast. Take the trim out, then we'll talk.
