I just thought about asking this, and it is have you ever been terified of coasters but got over it? This is kind of personal but although I am a big fan of KI and always have been since i was little, I was always terrified of coasters. Not the height (heights dont bug me, i love being at the top of the Eiffel Tower) nor the speed, but the drops. I used to hate the feeling in your stomach while going down drops. This was due in particular to me experiencing this on FOC (The Beastie) when i was little. Before this season, the two biggest coasters that i would ride would be The Racer and Flight Deck. However, last weekend me and my friends went to KI and they decided that they wanted to ride Beast I was weary at first but then i decided "enough is enough" i took a deep breath, got into the que, got on the train, and i ended up loving the ride. I was actually sweating going up the first lift:-). Anyways, after getting off The Beast, I was so happy to where i actually rode Firehawk, loved that to. Lastly i got on DB and all I can say is that it is an amazing experience. I am proud that in just one night i went from being limited to the mild coasters to the top thrill machines. So has anyone else had this situation before, and faced it head on? This has really opened the park up a lot more to me. Just thought i would share that.

Hey i noticed that friday night (the 1st) the park was using the Eiffel Tower's original lighting system (the one with the bright lights at the top of the tower and the big halogen bulbs under the observation platform). I was actually kind of stunned as i dont think that i had ever seen the original lighting used. They did not use that lighting tonight though.

^Oops I didnt know that, I guess you learn something new about KI's history every day on these forums

Yea, that is true, I would say that BLSC would have fit in perfectly with Action Zone. Why Paramount decided to place the ride in an area themed to a classic amusement park midway is beyond me. If you think about it, Paramount could have easily squeezed BLSC behind Delirium, provided that they filled in the small depression, but they didnt. Although Paramount considered KI to be a complete theme park, I think that Cedar Fair might be doing a better job at keeping rides in appropriate areas, considering the placement of DB, and the fact that they renamed the area with FOF and Firehawk as "X-Base".

Hey, is it just me, or does it look like some of the other areas of the park are being neglected? I mean, look at nick U, all of the signs and posts are fading, Avatar's track is starting to look terible and sometimes ive heard that the aang character has started to randomly fall off which i do not know if that is true. Also, the tiny little kids coaster at the entrance of nick U is turning into a rust bucket. Now for Action Zone, Invertigo, as stated in other posts is starting to fade and flight deck is in more need than ever for some TLC. I dont know about anyone else, but it seems as though KI is only focused on Rivertown and not paying much attention to these other areas. I am not sure about Actionn Zone, but does anyone think that the neglect in Nick U could be a sign of complete changes to come?

Hey, i have a big concern and was wandering if anyone could give me some feedback. I bought my pass at Meijer back in january (when i had the extra cash to get it) and when i went, the rack that displays the passes was kind of hidden from view (suspicious) and i actually had to ask a represenative where it was. Now here is my concern, i recently went to Meijer to see if the prices were different but the rack was gone, when i asked where it was, the lady told me that they no longer sell Kings Island passes and they probably wont anymore in the future. I am just kind of worried about my pass, i kept the recept just in case, but this is just bugging me

I have heard quite a couple of times that the reason why The Bat was closed years ago was because multiple people were slung out and died. Even though i wasnt alive at the time, i know that the short life of the ride was mostly downtime.

^Adding to what i had just said, that is one of the things that i liked about Paramount and Viacom, although they did seem to let the park go in multiple things, they did actually label and think of KI as an actual THEME PARK even though they were not very good in terms of ride placement either half the time. Cedar Fair looks at KI as an AMUSEMENT PARK when they describe it which really aggrivates me. Sure, they label Knotts as a theme park but wow, KI is like twice the size with some even more themed areas. Now that people have mentioned it, i hope that before future expansion takes place, the park at least tries to attempt to renew some of the theming. In my honest opinion, i believe that Oktoberfest should be renamed to something such as Adventure Zone if they are not going to keep up the theming.

Yea, i did like the idea of making Festhaus part of International Street. Festhaus has went from a German themed entertainmet building/food court to a soup of multiple nationalities. If the park were to do this, then i think it would be a wonderfull thing to rise some peoples thoughts on the park by restoring some of the theming. Speaking of all of this, i do have some hope in Cedar Fair when it comes to theming, just look where Diamondback is located.
-
yea i forgot that there was a LaRosas in there to, which just adds to the confusion By the way, another thing about Festhaus that i have noticed is that they really have not been using the show over the main entrance with the little animatronics who bang there mugs on the table while the servers dance around, all while listening to the chicken dance. I used to get a real kick out of that when the clock struck noon, but for the past year or two they have just been sitting there collecting bird droppings

True, very true. I can see Coney Mall's name reflecting the area, but Oktoberfest is a different story i mean come on what the heack does a slingshot, virtual coaster ride, and a restaurant themed to a beach shack have to do with a German celebration? I can see AE and Viking fury as they can tie into the theme. Heck, even festhaus has lost the theming. PANDA EXPRESS IS CHINESE!

That's a very optimistic view of how the day will be. I'll try to leave around 4 with my fiance and buddy so 3 more people should be able to get in. Very true, i can see it now heading to the park and traffic being backed up out of the parking lot, down Kings Island Dr., and all the way to the I-71 exit. And it wont get any better when drivers who cant get in try to look out to catch a glimpse of DB and cause a 30 care pile up. Hmmmm maybe i should just wait till the next weekend
-
I just hope that i will be able to at least get through the front gates with the little time that i will have I have to work until 4 that day

That is okay guys, i knew you were joking about the burning thing, i dont know who took it the wrong way but anyways, lets get back on topic.
-
Wait, doesnt the park start testing the coasters an hour or two before the park actually opens to the public? So really, the trains are only sitting for about 10 to 10 1/2 hours.
-
I like that idea. I honestly never really thought about taking the path in that direction. I guess the only thing about that would be that it'd be like a mirrored version of the Coney Mall area with The Racer as the center of attention. Maybe it could be the Bizarro Coney Mall. Or maybe it could be Coney Maul all year round on that side and have haunted attractions. Yes, that would be awesome! They really need to explore all of that land because i mean, honestly would any of you guys like to see all of KI turn into a concrete jungle "cough: Action Zone : cough" just because they want to squeeze a bunch of new attractions together and take away scenery. Actually, i dont know who else watched that construction video from 1971/72 which by the way was an excellent post. But i do recall in the video that the one of the designers goals was to "incorporate natural elements and make Kings Island one of the most attractive looking parks in the country" IMAO they should keep that legacy going, while still adding new and more exciting attractions in the far off future.

Realy, as a few people have been saying, that isnt what they meant by "burning the coaster down" i mean, i cant even imagine a devastating event like that destroying parts of one of Ohio's greatest landmarks. Anyways, back to what we started with, does anyone have any more creative ideas on how you think the park might expand in the future without destroying anything? Like a few of us were saying, X-base seems to be a hint-hint type of starting point for the future, however i dont see what the park would do about all of the storage warehouses that currently occupy the area and even if they were to move them or something, would they realy try and squeeze people through the small midway under racer to get to an entire section of the park?

Even though they are keeping it, it does not seem like they care about it too much. I mean, that poor hidden building is looking worse and worse every year. Just like Flight Deck, it could desperately use a new paint job. And as for expanding in that area, maybe they could just build yet another long tunnel underneith one of racers big U-turns and acess the land beyond. I

You might be a KI addict if you.........try to spot the KI skyline when driving through mason, fields ertel, or kings mills.
-
Yea that would be a great idea maybe name it "SkyStormer" or something like that.
-
Yea, weekdays would be best, especially if it is a nice monday or friday. If you go on a nice, sunny, 75 Degree Saturday, you can easily expect the park to be bulging with people.
-
Yea that would be sweet to have a monorail. I was just a baby when they took out the Lion County Safari and would've liked to see what that was like. I completely forgot about the Action Theater though, it sits in a spot right on the border, as much as i did like it, maybe them closing it for this year is saying something
-
This has really made me think, but how do you think the park will expand in the future. I mean, KI owns most of the hundreds of acres of woods behind the park however, i have noticed that they have managed to box themselves in with coasters (In order from left to right: Flight Deck, SOB, AE, Racer, Vortex, Beast, Crypt, Diamondback, Waterpark). I was thinking that x-base was the start of a new themed zone but, that area is boxed in with warehouses

Hey, this has been bugging me for a while, but do any of you think that the economic recession might hit KI hard this summer? Cedar Fair seems to be doing very well with continually rising stocks (which i dont understand since its the offseason a.k.a. no visitors ) but what about in the summer, do you think that it might hit then?
