  1. I completely agree, and notice that the majority of the complainers are the n00bs.............. I think that this is an excellent descision. Would it be nicer if there were no upcharge? Sure, but I still like this idea either way. This not only brings something unique to the park, but also shows that Cedar Fair is willing to bring some immersive and thematic experiences back to the park. Also, to all that think that this investment should have been used for a coaster, remember this: Kings Island, is in fact a theme park (a theme park is defined as an amusement park with different sub-sections, and rides which may or may not have a common theme). Kings Island is not just a thrill park. Actually, I would find it quite boring visiting a park that ONLY focuses on installing coasters, without any sort of relaxing and immersive "get away areas/attractions". Look at it this way, we were all children at one point in time, and many of us probably also went through the "dinosaur stage". Imagine if you were still at that age level.....would you be dissappointed if there were little for you to do throughout the entire park? After all, you were at one point below the height required to ride all of the thrilling rides within the park. Along with that, many younger, and even older kids are freightened by the thought of going high and fast, and enjoy the park only for the more tranquil and immersive experiences. This also applies to those who for other reasons are not capable of riding rides, but want to be able to get out and do something fun. In short, not everyone likes, or is capable of getting on thrill rides at a theme park, which is why there is a variety, and why this is a great investment..... Sigh.. KIBOB, trying not to be rude.
  2. I think that this is a very nice addition to the park. Although most of the work will probably be handled by Dinosaurs Unearthed, I believe that this definently proves that Cedar Fair is making progress with adapting theming and general atmoshpere. Way to go CF! I was a bit suprised by the upcharge, but I suppose that $5 is reasonable for this brand new immersive area of the park.
  3. Just out of curiosity, but is it known if CBS tried to sell/transfer PP back to Viacom; and when VIA declined, CBS placed the "for sale" status on the parks? If so, this even further justifies my statement from earlier, although this scenario is slightly different from event that took place five years ago.
  4. Has anyone noticed that Great Wolf Lodge is no longer listed anywhere on Kings Island's web site? Also, in recent GWL adverts, they have not mentioned Kings Island, even as a reference point? This may or may not be related to anything in this announcement, but I just found it kind of interesting that it APPEARS that KI and GWL have broken relations.
  5. I was just thinking the same exact thing............. Many clues seem to be pointing to a spot in Action Zone, except the "planning" scenario..... To much TEASING......
  6. It does seem like a dinosaur theme is fitting, after all, just look at the image rotator on the home page. As the image changes, dirt is uncovered to unveil the teaser. Almost like......paleontology.
  7. Why, to cleverly disguise more of the pealing rock wallpaper ofcourse!!
  8. I find it kind of funny how the pieces are being delicately placed in the open parking lot, only to be lifted back onto a truck and driven into the park a few days later. I really never understood the point of doing this, publicity? Overall, it is pretty cool to see pieces in the parking lot, and I'm sure someone on here knows the answer on why they go through the trouble of keeping the pieces temporarilly in the parking lot.
  9. Ok, before I post this information let me begin by saying that I have no idea if this is/for WindSeeker, and am not saying that it is, but I just thought that I would throw this out there. This morning, as I was heading down I-275 to NKU, I witnessed a cavalry of flat-bed big rigs (I am pretty sure that there were 3 trucks, plus the guidance truck in the front). Each truck was carrying a large cylinder, and each was probably around 50 - 60 feet in length. These cylinders looked as though they were around the same circumference as the structure of Drop Tower, and I am fairly sure that these are NOT some parade of giant drainage pipes, as the pieces did appear to be painted a glistening silverish white color. The most interesting thing though, is how the pieces looked at the ends......almost like connectors of some sort. The parade of trucks was headed north/east on I-275. Again, please don't bash this comment, I just thought that it was a nice little observation.
  10. That is really awesome! I did not know that Festhaus currently sits in the former spot of the Bavarian Beetle. We learn something new every day..
  11. I had seen that this morning, but I was unsure whether to post it or not; glad someone did. Overall, I guess that this is kind of a fun little joke directed towards us. Even though a lot of us might not even see it as a joke. KIBOB, who wishes that he had an action theater seat synched to Beast! EDIT: I did not watch the video that closely, it is actually just a plain old regular chair, that I thought was an action theater seat at first. Still though, one can dream.....
  12. Wow, this is my first post in quite a while, but I just hope that this little operation, while helping another CF park, does not turn into another Geauga Lake story. After all, if I'm not mistaken, I don't think that CF has installed any new rides at CGA since a year or two after aquiring PP. There is even the possibility that CF is planning some more investments into that park, possibly after a settlement with the entire statium situation. I know it's unlikely, but anything can happen. On a side note, although it would be cool, and boost the coaster count, I don't see why CF would want to install Invertigo at CP when there is an equal model of different colors at a sister park in the same state. However, we do have the WindSeekers.....
  13. So it looks as though the park is using red brick style/textured pavers to rework the surface in Coney Mall. In my opinion, I think that the pavers will look great, and keep the classical feel to the area. Thank goodness they are keeping to the style of the area rather than using the same pavers that were used in Rivertown and PS which look great, but in those areas. Looking great KI!
  14. It looks like Jungle Jim's is not the only one who participates in Kings Island's silent auction, I wonder how much the park sold the Paramount tree topper for? Drats, that would've looked good over our driveway!
  15. Yes, all companies must remove trees in order to build, but I hope they don't go overboard. (As CF has a tendency to do)
  16. Just hopefully we don't get another Kinzel from the south......
  17. Actually, once when I went to the park this summer, I decided to ride The Crypt to get out of the heat, and the torch lights in the que were turned on, a very nice touch in my opinion. The question is, why were they on that one time, and only that ONE time. They obviously work, so why not use them? KIBOB, who can picture a sticky note being placed over the lighting control for the torches that reads "DO NOT USE-we must not have decent theming. Mr. K's country club will not allow it!"
  18. I was just wondering around why the engineers decided to place WindSeeker where it will be located instead of the old Flight Commander spot, and I just remembered something, which I don't think was brought up before (please correct me if I am wrong), but wasn't Drop Tower/Drop Zone originally planned to go in the same said former location of Flight Commander, which we all thought would be the location of WindSeeker? However, the park also realized at that time, that the soil in that location was unsuitable for Drop Zone, so the ride was re-planned and opened in its current site in Action Zone. Flight commander was not nearly as tall, if not nearly even as heavy as Drop Tower/WindSeeker, and therefore probably did not require as pecise bedrock/ground specificatins as DT/WS, and could cosily accomidate that location. On the other hand, I am curious as to why the bedrock is not ideal in that location as compared to only a few feet away. Interesting soils we have here in Ohio!
  19. Yes, KIBOB, who finds it interesting that Nick characters were just placed in a field...............and bored at the same time
  20. Interesting.....I thought that the park had to return those props to Viacom after the license expired. I can't believe the Nick Central sign has been sitting back there for that long, unless ofcourse, it was recently moved.
  21. I hate to be negative, but under current management, I don't expect Cedar Fair to install an indoor coaster with a theme. Maybe in the future, which is a great Q. Speaking in Terpy language.
  22. ^That is my biggest gripe with Cedar Fair. Overall, I think that they are good in operations except for a few things (refunds forr unexplained phenomenon). However, its not that they don't care about having a good theme, it's that they don't really care about atmosphere. Other than Planet Snoopy and BB, the rest of the park has the same lineup of alternative and hip hop music that just completely messes with the feel that each individual area is supposed to have. The park says that the music is supposed to "pump up the guests and get them ready for a day at the park", but it really doesn't work, it just gets annoying. If we had the current lineup played in Action Zone, orchestra music played on I-Street, and classics from people such as The Beetles and Elvis in Coney Mall. Cedar Fair, I will admit has somewhat "experimented with themeing" in the past few years at Kings Island, the other former Paramount Parks, and the legacy parks. Look at things such as the attempt to make the area with Flight of Fear and Firehawk its own distinquished area-X-Base. Cedar Fair can do theming, they just don't do it in depth, and they can tie specific rides to a specific area of the park where the rides might match the theme, (maverick, Diamondback, shoot the rapids, Firehawk) however, with some rides, they do pass over the area (see the Intimidators). Overall, I don't think that Cedar Fair hates theming, and they CAN do it, but they just don't seem to understand the concept of atmosphere, and to them, especially Kinzel, they seem to think that a Theme park is nothing but dark rides with no coasters or thrills, and that is not true. Like I have said many times on these boards, Cedar Fair has seemed to learned a bit in terms of theming from the purchase of Paramount Parks, but atmosphere, not so much. EDIT: I forgot to mention, although i am getting really uncertain in regards to Haunt with what will be introduced this year, I forgot to add, CF does an excelent job with theming AND atmosphere at haunt, so why can't it be like that all year long?
  23. ^Just to add, it was not Paramount who allowed Adventure Village to run into disrepair, it was the former; Carl Lidner........ Learned this from Terpy in another thread.
  24. This is truly horrendous, I can't believe that I'm saying this, but this video actually makes my stomach turn sour towards Cedar Fair, or for that matter, KI management. This has gone too far, they have taken a family friendly park that ONCE had a lot of atmosphere and a special sort of feel to it, and turned it into an alley-way trashy event. If KI management REALLY wants to drive families that have been coming to the halloween event, or for that matter, the park in general, then they are doing a pretty good job of it. I love KI, it is my home park, and I grew up going there, but in a situation like this, someone needs to take a sensible step forward and see what is really wrong with this. Halloween events are about getting genuinly scared, as others on here have pointed out, not witness a gruesome seen of inhumanity. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against "professional wrestling" but this is not...............this is just people being ripped apart in front of park guests. Kings Island, from me and most of the members of this site would agree, open your eyes!
