^^I'm guessing the whole cup, gotta love centripital force! . Anyways, a real oddity that i've seen is by the stairs going up to the station on Flight Deck. If you look at the track supports, there is graffiti (not ink, but just marks in the dirt and grime) all over them, but the thing is, those supports are either 4ft from the railing in midair, or 8ft up, also quite far from any of the platforms.

If you are referring to the animatronic demon bat and the two other demon things in the back, then i am pretty sure that those are former Haunt/Fearfest props that the park just decided to add to the ride. If that is the case then the only thing that the park "paid" for, was the new wiring to control The Bat.
-
Same here, except I don't trust them period. If a ride is on wheels, can fold up, and has support structures that are much thinner and fragile than their Amusement/Theme park counterparts, and especailly if any part of said ride leaves the ground, then i just walk on by.

It's awsome that the park is doing this. It seems as though lately they've been doing a lot more fundraising work with various organizations to help with their various causes. On a side note, this may be the answer why the outer water jets in the Royal Fountain have been turned off. Perhaps they were preparing, and they decided that the jets would cause havoc with the ducks............just a guess.

Hello, and welcome to KIC! If you are really interested in the park and would like to discuss the park with other enthusiasts, even make some new friends, then this is the site for you.

I haven't been able to go to the park for a while, any word from anyone that the smoke screen is operational again? I hope...
-
A little off topic, but does anyone know the answer to this? Does the majority of the park's power come from those high tension power lines that hover over Boomerang Bay (it always gives me a slight chill walking under those with water all around me). Also, is the park's power facility were that substation is behind BB, the one you can see from the deck of Tasmanian Typhoon?
-
Actually, the reason why the fountains were COMPLETELY off all day yesterday was due to some post electrical problems from the Independence Day power outage. You need not to worry..................I hope. (Maybe when the fountains are back up and running the outer jets will be working again as well) I think i'm being a bit too optimistic

Walt Disney World: New Park?
KIBOB replied to coaster_junky's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Somehow, I don't think that Walt and Mr. Kinzel would get along. -
Hmmmmm... This may be a new record for the amount of time it takes for an effect to be shut off at KI, just because the park's owners are not willing to pay for/maintain the effect. Similar to the light bulbs burning out and motors seizing on AE, or the audio and water effects on BLSC, The Crypt in general, and possibly (I REALLY hope not...) the water jets in the royal fountain. The list goes on and on. This may be one of those times. I really wish that Cedar Fair would stop thinking that effects/theming have no impact on a parks atmosphere and that they can just please people with the color red. After all, coasters and major thrill rides are fun, but the experience of ride mixed with a good backstory or theme really adds to the excitement. Sorry i kind of elaborated a bit more than necessary, but this is truly becoming a disqust thinking of how far Kings Island is drifting away from the well themed immersive environment it once was one effect at a time, and just because a certain company's board of directors and CEO continuously strive to believe that theming is no more than "lipstick" is like saying that the internet is just a newspaper on a screen.
-
Actually, we should also add Flight Deck to that list. It is also turning a shade of scarlet red before our eyes. KIBOB, who beleives Cedar Fair does not have to pay mother nature to paint a coaster......

I've been wondering, is it just me, or are the outer foam jets (the fountains that shoot straight up) not working in the Royal Fountain? The past few times that i have visited the park i noticed that only the foam jets on the platforms have been operational.

I also find this kind of Ironic. I also find it kind of funny how just a little more than four years ago on these forums, nearly everyone was expressing how excited and thrilled they were that Cedar Fair was purchasing Paramount Parks to get us out of the CBS nightmare. We were mostly all excited about the possibility of the park returning to its former glory and we were excited about the possibilites about bigger and better things coming to the park, which we did get, but look at where Cedar Fair stands now. As Goodyellowcorn basically stated, the company is beginning to fall apart at the mercy of a thousand atmospheres of debt that management just doesn't seem to know how to handle, and the lack of theming, effects maintnence, and attention to detail is really starting to grind most of our gears, and has proven that Cedar Fair has NOT returned the parks to their former in depth atmosphere environment. All of this while the former leader of Paramount Parks, the company that Cedar Fair purchased, seems to have a great plan for the new Six Flags and is bringing the company back to its feet. All I have to say is....

I wonder if Intimidator at Carowinds will be added to that competition.

I am just going to warn those of you who have not already ridden in it, but i would not recommend Vortex seat 4-1, unless you like intense ping-pong.
-
You know, I find it really funny how towards the end of last year, many on these boards were questioning Kings Island and CF's attempt at retheming Nick Universe due to CF's past track record when it comes to theming. Now, in the midst of the 2010 season, I think that they did an outstanding job on Planet Snoopy. The area looks great and Boo Blasters is in my opinion, not scary, but awesome. What I also find funny is the fact that many were thinking that the transition would be a quick band-aid type of deal (a bit of new paint) when in reallity, the park does'nt even seem to be finished with the area. This new sign, the flagpoles, and new banners showing up proves this theory. KIBOB, who has been a little off topic lately, but likes to express great things......

Was it really just 2005? I remember back in 2003, standing under the Eiffel Tower with my parents and watching people install rows of mortars on the sides of the tower. (EDIT) I also remeber the area around the base of the tower being closed off later that night. We never got to see the show though, because it began storming around 9:30 and the park closed. (That was july 3rd). I can't beleive i still remember all of that.

What I find to be kind of "ironic" is the fact that in 2000, SoB and Millenium Force were the two biggest competitors in the coaster wars. While CP unleashed the first Giga, KI unleashed the worlds largest wooden coaster. At that time, KI and CP were owned by two completely different companies who were in what seemed to be fierce competition for the Ohio market. Now Cedar Fair, the masterminds behind Millie own KI, and this year both coasters have turned a decade old, and while Millie is getting a ton of recognition and praise, SoB is sitting alone...with the entrance que nearly completely removed, and all signs/recognition of the ride taken away. What was at one point Paramount Parks' prized coaster, is now sitting gathering dust in the back shelf of CF. Even though SoB has had it's problems, it still just seems kind of awkward.

5-1 is truly amazing. I rode in that seat about a week ago and it was VERY smooth. However, from what i have just learned after visiting the park today, I recommend NOBODY ride in Vortex 4-1. I thought "one row up should'nt make much of a difference", but that was probably one of the roughest rides on Vortex i've been on. I know, a little off topic...... By the way FoF is in my top 5.

This is a poll where you can express what you think KI's current owners would be like if a few changes were applied.

This is about an employee, not a guest. Today when visiting the park, i walked on over to Flight Deck and one of the ride ops was saying different things after each dispatch: Train 1: "Enjoy your ride on Top Gun, staring the one and only Tom Cruise! Maybe you'll get to meet him!" Train 2: "Your off on Flight Deck, the coaster with 5 loops, 3 corkscrews, and a cobra roll all packed tightly beside the worlds largest wooden roller coaster!" Train 3: "Enjoy your ride on Flight Deck, Kings Islands one and only clay coaster!"

"Click!" Let's Have Fun & See Those KI 2010 Pictures
KIBOB replied to PKISecurity's topic in Kings Island
I see your point. -
When was this picture taken? I'm guessing sometime in late 1999?

This is from inside the park, and it is more of an action rather than something that someone said, but anyways.... I was at the park last night and it appeared as though there were some out of state organizations/groups (church groups?). Means to say, it was packed. Well around 8:00 I was in Action Zone and it started to rain. Almost ALL of the people took off and crammed into the small On-Location building, as well as under the overhang at ice scream zone, when the festhause was just a few steps away, and was'nt even half full.

^Sheeesh, and people complain about SoB. That looks almost illegal. Did an engineer actually design that ride, or was a pencil and paper handed to a monkey.
