  1. My brother has back issues from some time now. He has 2 18inch titanuim rods fused to his spine from scoliosis as a child. His surgery has been about 16 yrs ago, and he has no issues with coasters, let alone SOB. I know, people will say he should not ride coasters at all but, he had to wait about 6 years after his surgery to resume park visits. His Doctor said it "may not be a good idea" but whatever your body can handle was his motto. We tried a smaller coaster at first to see how he felt, he said he was fine. He has been on SOB (w/ and w/o the loop) never had a problem. The Beast, Meanstreak, TTD, Maverick, and many others. My point is, a prior medical problem known or unknown could affect your ride experience or just standing at work doing your job may aggravate your problem, no one knows?
  2. A car costs a lot less. If your car was a mult-million dollar project, you would do practically anything to fix it. My opinion, Texas Giant makeover.
  3. I also commented to this topic on KI extreme, but if the modification on Texas Giant is sucessful, could SOB be next?
  4. Dave, I hope you do not have any problems with the coasters. My frame is 6'4" and 236 lbs. I have had a few problems with tight fits on some rides but, I lost 40+ lbs. I used to weigh around 280. My point is last year TTD was a no go,(I was down to 270) but it was not my waist line that was the problem. It was my hips. Like I said, I have a large frame so maybe in the near future there will be no problems. MF did not give me any problems but, it was a tight fit. Now my goal is 50 lbs which is a few more months away so who knows. This year I'm gonna go to Holiday World then day 2 to KI.
  5. I loved the Bayern curve. It was a ride that got me ready for coasters. High speed, g-force, and a little elevation change. I rode KW'S bayern curve about 10 yrs ago, the ride op left us on what seemed to be 2-3 ride cycles. Most fun on a flat ride ever.
  6. Thanks for posting, those photos reminded me of my childhood and many summers at KI. The Bayern curve, my favorite flat ride. I wish we still has it. That ride trained me for my coaster future, the speed, excitement, and a little g-force. About 10 yrs ago I visited Kennywood, and they had one, the ride Op left us on there for at least what would be 2-3 ride cycles. Best fun I ever had on a flat ride. Anyone have a fav non-coaster ride and/or experience?
  7. I researched it. The greyout in a medical dictionary basically says a grey out says a "grey out is loss of perrifrial vision" due to high g-forces, like a jet pilot, or roller coaster rider may experience. It also mentioned low blood pressure and even a hangover. My only point is, I have not greyed out or anything before on a coaster and have never experienced it before, thats all. BTW- I hope they do not mess with the make-up of this coaster(Trims) before I get to take a spin for myself.
  8. I know a greyout can be from a lack of oxygen (temporarily) like you said , like if you get up too quickly, and your blood pressure has to equal out in a few seconds, but I was saying I have never had this happen on a coaster.
  9. What is up with the greyout/blackout? Never experienced it before. Could it be from having a certain body type? I am a pretty stout person, 6'4" 235 lbs. Not that means anything but, could it be a factor, like having upperbody strength? Just a thought. Several posts on here mentioned the grey/blackout happened on MF, I305, even Maverick, but no mention to Dragster or Kingda Ka. These coasters have high speeds plus a 400ft + drop. My comments were not meant to sound mean or anything referring to upper body strength, it was just a thought. Sorry if I offended anyone.
  10. I'm not sure "movie themeing is good idea. Let me explain, Top Gun for example is a old movie, and most young people have not even heard of it. I know, its not Top Gun anymore but.... The Superman brand or any other comic book hero is a lasting icon, But Top Gun? sorry.. or Italian Job Harry Potter, may be the same in twenty years, no one cares anymore. The themeing will be changed in 4-5 years anyway. By the way, no money to spend on BMW license fees, alot of money was spent to change Nickelodeon Universe to Planet Snoopy. Nick themeing was not old at all... These are my (narrowminded opinions anyway) please don't hate on me ok? Thanks!!!!!!
  11. I went to KD last summer, and really enjoyed it. The option for discount tickets were not to be found anywhere, not that there weren't any, but I asked around. The park was kept really clean(like KI) and the overall atmosphere was compareable to Kings Island. I loved Volcano, and Grizzly(good woodie) but I guess the length of The Beast has ruined it for me, because all other Woodies seem too short. A small family coaster I thought was cool is Avalanche which is a Bob-sled type coaster. Dominator is also great, and since GL is closed, I get to enjoy it somewhere else. Hurler was o.k. at its best and Anaconda (steel looper was pretty fun) FoF and Stunt track or whatever it is called today, are repeats to me. My fave flat ride was the Crypt. I gotta say I loved it, nice themeing and the ride program is INTENSE. I would trade it for our lame Crypt ride anytime. The only weird fact about the park I found was, day two for us, we went straight back to the Volcano coaster for an early spin but, it was not open, when the rest of most of the park were operating. A park employee told me the maintenance crew were inspecting other attractions and they would open in about an hour. One hour after the park had already been running full speed ahead. Volcano, FoF and Anaconda opened about one hour late. Ohhh, one more, the swinging inverter ship "Bezerker" was cool, I rode it a few times. I give KD a 9/10 for my rating. Hope this helps and please go enjoy I305 for me ok? If you have a little extra time.... Busch Gardens is a short trip from there......just a thought. I went on a Tues/Wed for my trip in the first week of June.
  12. What are the major differences of the two "Crypt" rides? Like size, programability, ect...
  13. Why dont they just change the whole theme of the coaster and forget the car-chase bull. I know this won't happen but, Cedar Fair is slowly ruining the park. Change the "CRYPT" to cycle something like the one at Kings Dominion.
  14. I don't recall the name of the hotel but, it was the second hotel across the street from the main entrance. It was a very nice updated hotel. 70.00 a night. A new hotel was being built behind this one as we stayed in June 2009. I tried to find discount tickets for KD somewhere but with no luck. I asked around and no one had any ideas for us. The lady at the ticket counter said if we bought full priced tickets (49.99) We could get in a second day for free. A two day trip is what we were there for so... we bought them. I am sorry for my ramblings, these are just random thoughts about my trip last summer. BTW I loved the park.... Volcano is a great coaster plus I got to ride Dominator(East) again.
  15. Hey guys, heading to Six Flags Ga this June. Any tips like where to stay, rides to hit first, food (good or bad). How about any other attractions that are there to enjoy? I have heard about Underground Atlanta? I do not know if this is the correct name. Someone said it was shopping, restaurants, and bars/ club? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks
  16. I have 2 different experiences on one coaster. The Beast, I rode it for the first year with my grandfather, he was in his late 60's we both loved it. I'm not sure which year, but the tunnel on the helix was not installed yet. Second was with my best friend, Last ride of the night and the weather was pretty warm all day, but a pop-up shower came in and I waited it out. We rode the front row with fog so thick, we could not see 2 feet in front of us. FANTASTIC. Another fun coaster was Volcano, first ride and the front seat. The launch is soo cool blasting out of the top of the volcano upside down.....amazing.
  17. Sorry my last post should say: Did anyone, not Does anyone. SORRY
  18. Does anyone have the "joy" of riding this coaster? I was lucky enough to ride it twice in I believe the opening year. I do remember it being a little rough but, I do not remember the Quote "Whiplash" it had on some riders. Also, I think somewhere in all the junk that I have collected over the years, I think I still have a button that reads I survived The Bat. How ironic is that? Reply with any of your ride stories of The Bat.
  19. Worst coaster, I agree Meanstreak, SOB, and FoF before the OTSR removal. I have a question I hope input from many of you guys. I read in several posts that you all have several SFoG coasters listed. Is this a park I need to avoid? I have a plan for next summer for my first trip to the park. I need some input on this. My goal is to visit a new park every summer to add to my "COASTER COUNT" My trip this past summer was Kings Dominion. Oh btw I forgot Hurler, rough but not awful. Sorry one more thought, why does most consider the Vekoma SLC a "Hang and Bang" personally I thought the GL Thunderhawk was pretty good, but not like a BM invert.
  20. I discovered GL late in the game, but I had a pretty goood time when I attended. The park was not too busy 15-20min wait timrs. All the rides were open and running ok. X-flight down for a short time and also Thunderhawk. I agree Geauga Lake was not themed very well and the food was not too good, but I always pack a lunch in the car, then snack a little. Employees were OK but, (no offense) young people sometimes seem to not care about their job or even want to be there. Not all the youth act this way but, it does happen. The park was layed out kinda weird but it wasn't too bad. I had a pretty good time both years I went, especially the cheap admission since I was on a budget. I loved Big Dipper, RWB, and Dominator. I am used to KI so when I attended my expectation were too high. I am by no way bashing anyone by my opinion on the youthful workers or the park I gave GL a 7/10 for my expierence. Not too bad???
  21. Wooferbear, I have to disagree with all of you, My gay uncle is the best(LOL) all uncles are best. I am now 41 and growing up my uncle was(still is) the fun uncle, he got us kids all the cool toys. Race car tracks, model rockets, train sets ect. he rocks. He taught me everyone is equal and his partner (40+years) so I got another cool uncle. They both went with us to KI and other places we always had fun. When I decided to attend college, out of town I had a rough start, because my car was stolen and it was tough finding employment, so he sent me money for a couple months rent until I got on my feet. I payed him back after attending school by working at his business for free for a couple weeks. He would give anyone his last dollar as long as it would help them. I know I got off the subject but, that is my "UNCLE" story and I have "PRIDE" for him and anyone else. I love him very much, and I would do anything for him to help him out if needed.
  22. I am happy that there is a "Pride Day". Growing up with a gay uncle, I do not know hate. He happens to be the one to get me interested in Coasters, along with my Mom. My uncle and I go to a new park every year to experience new coasters. KD this summer and a plan for SF over Georgia next summer. We enjoy time away each summer to catch up on family stuff. We go also because my wife is not crazy for coasters. I am going to mention this pride day and make him go with me. Btw what are the park hours on this day?
