I like bobsled style coasters. They are fun and a nice change from all the speed and g-force. Avalanche, Disaster Transport, and space Mountain are the three that I have been on. Kings Dominion's is a nice paced coaster and I think it;s a lot fun. Sometimes I just need a break from the major coasters at KD, this provides it for me.

I know this may sound silly, but it is a long walk from the actual entrance of the ride until you get to the station. That is the only complaint I have for such a short ride. Flight Deck, needs to use the "Aircraft Carrier" que line again. I loved the theming.

Absolutely, maybe a coaster that no on has ever seen before. (new style of coaster)

I am wondering, What will the do with all that lumber? Will it just be hauled off and destroyed, or will it be (or could it be) used for anything else. Buildings at KI, or Habitat for Humanity, to build homes for the less fortunate? Could this even be possible?

Did you just quote The Mighty Mighty Bosstones?? You just scored major bonus points with me. Don't know how to party?

I would love to see Bayern Kurve brought back. Coney Mall sounds like a good fit.

I read a post of a ride cycle with the Gondola, or whatever you would like to call it. It states that the "jerk" may be from a half full ride? I have never seen this, when I am there, it is always a full ride car.(maybe one or two empty seats) I am only at the park one to two times a year, so me seeing a half full Delirium ride gondola/car may be rare?? I have also noticed only on a rare occasion, that the ride seems to swing just a little higher, than I recalled in the past. I rode it this year, and it seemed to almost go upside down. I know that this does NOT happen, on the ride, it just seems that way.

Carowinds Windseeker Malfunction
thunderbeast1968 replied to Leland Wykoff's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I have read several stories on WindSeeker rides being shut down. I was wondering, is this ride too high, for safe operation? The wind at 300ft. is always whipping around, unlike on the ground. I was on The Eifel Tower and the wind was really strong up there. I could only imagine what it woud do to The WindSeeker. I am not against this ride, I have been on Cedar Point's version, just wondering?? I was at Kings Island in June, and the ride was open and closed several times during the day. -
I saw the comercial for Kings Island that show Dominator, and another one with an inverted B&M style coaster that does not reside at the park either. No I do not have footage, it just happened to be on TV, and I thought you cannot ride those coasters at the Island.

Man, watching that video gave me cold chills. I hated reading comments on that website on how "dumb" that girl was. Put yourself in that situation yourself, and lets really see how you would react. To sit back and just watch the video and comment, on her stupidity, really? I bet a lot more people might have done the exact same thing. That storm came thru my area and it scared the crap out of me and I was on the ground.

My wife just told me the same thing, about the "park and ride" She stated that as old rides broke down and are getting more expensive to fix, or even find parts for, they will remove these rides. Plus they plan to open a museum about the history of Camden Park. The change over to Camden Park-and-ride to Kings Island. My wife said she thinks the park is overpriced and not a very good value. (Sorry to say, I agree) The only time I make it to the park, is when my employeer has a company outing. The idea of a "park and ride" makes no sense to me, who is gonna pay to ride a bus to Kings Island, unless it's a really good value?? If Camden Park was a short distance, let's say 30-60 miles, I could see this as a pretty good idea, but Kings Island is almost 3 hrs. from Huntington.

Camden Park: Rattler
thunderbeast1968 replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Mini Delerium? Looks nice. My company will have it's annual outting at the end of August. I work in Huntington, WV, just down the road from Camden Park, and I had a co-worker tell me that he had also heard that Wal-Mart had bought the Camden Park land. I told him, it doesn't make sense to build new attractions, and then tear the park down for another Wal-Mart. (like our area needs another stupid Wal-Mart) Trust me, there is plenty unused property that would fit a store of that caliber. The Ceredo/Kenova area has a old Big Bear grocery store, that doesn't do much in the area. I think there is a Harbour Freight store residing currently. Ceredo/Kenova is less than 5 miles from the suggested land where Camden Park currently sits. Our fair town/city is crumbling quickly, so I think Wally World can find another piece of land to build, if they think they need another store nearby. -
Suicide? Interesting. A manintenence worker was in a "lock-out" zone? No one knows what he was doing there? Did he get a call from ride-ops to attend to this coaster? I usually do not see workers anywhere near rides, unless they are shut down (locked out) or they are going thru their daily safety inspection, which usually happens before the ride opens. My uncle lost his cell phone on Firehawk, we could clearly see it under the final break run. Ride ops told us we would have to come back after the ride closes, then the crew would do a sweep of the grounds We waited until after the fireworks, then the crew had a meeting, we told a gentleman that we saw the phone just feet from the fence. The ride supervisor had to come over and with his "manager" keys and unlock the gate. He retrieved the phone (undamaged) and thanked him and went home.

The report is early, and it did not have too many details. The maintenence worker was in a zone that was supposed to be a "lock-out" area? I am to assume, that the ride was not locked out, and a worker was struck by a coaster train?? That's crazy, how in the world does this happen? Prayers are with the families and all envolved. I sure the co-workers and patrons that witnessed this accident will be shaken for some time.

When I was around 22, I worked at a meat dept. cleaning the dangerous equipment. I was sort of in a hurry, because I had a date for the evening. My boss'es friend came in to see the meat department and saw me kind of in a hurry. He explained the danger of a meat department with all the sharp and dangerous equipment. He went on to say "be careful, and take your time." He had a date too, when he was my age, got in a rush, and lost two fingers. Needless to say he told me "I spent the evening in the Emergency Room, instead on that date" Please young people, take you time, be care, and be aware of your surroundings.

I enjoy chatting from time to time on here. Not being from the Greater Cincinnati area, I only visit the park once a year. I tend to listen what you guys have to say. It kind of (no pun intended) keeps me in the loop. The day I had at Kings Island was not a good one. Diamondback was down, Delerium was down part of the day, and so was Invertigo down all day. WindSeeker down part of the day. As you can imagine with the frustration, a lot of other attractions lines were longer than usual. But, one friendly employee at The Beast said and I quote "A bad day at Kings Island, beats a good day at work" I went on to tell them, that the phrase needs to be on a t-shirt. Mine would say " A bad day of coaster riding, beats a great day at work."

I only visited Kings Island once a year, but I too have fond memories of Hanna Barbera. My parents tell me that we attended the park pretty much from year one or two. I wish that we had photos of the park, but alas we do not. One thing I do remember is that my uncle took a hand held 8mm (if I recall correctly) on The Racer. The footage is quite shakey as you could imagine, but I remember my Grandma setting up the movie screen time to time to watch the movie. Sorry, I just had a thought, I wonder if we have/had slides of Kings Island instead of photos?? I need to ask my family before it's too late to recall where these photos and/or slides may be. I will try to get back to you guys if I find anything out.

I agree. Bad fashion is bad fashion. I do not believe some people looked in a mirror before leaving the house.

I am not from your area, but Kohl's department store has these t-shirt in the Men's department. Under $10

Is there an end to Giga coasters? Why would that statement be true? So, how many giga coasters reside in the U.S.? Have we got bored with them? Not me. Inverted or stand-up coasters maybe, but I do not believe Giga coasters are at the end of an era.

I had the same experience. The Vortex was really rough this year. The mid-course break run jolted me, when I was slammed into my restraint. The final break run was not comfortable either.
-
Thanks for sharing your photos. I am 44 years old and still have fond memories of the old Hanna Barbera Land.

I visited the park several weeks ago and I agree. My uncle and I think The Beast was as smooth as it has been in quite some time. Great off-season work KI maintenance crew.

Has anyone have to walk down a lift hill before? My brother and I had to be walked down the lift of Flight Deck, we were about 30-35ft. out of the station, so we didn't have to go too far. The ride-ops made an anouncement to our coaster train, told us they were on their way. Starting at the first car, maintenance and I guess some sort of either ride-op or supervisor, had to unlock each restraint (each set) and carefully walk us down.
