What do ride ops do to pass the time
buckeyemaniac replied to Mr. Coastermania's topic in Kings Island
Unless we have to evacuate the ride, then downtimes are very relaxing. There is time to do cleaning that you don't have time to do otherwise, or just talk to your coworkers. -
The associates at train got a new look too...I've been laughing at them every chance I get because of it.

doubtful, they had WHITE WATER CANYON and CONGO FALLS open today... whos bright idea was that? the line was nonexistant on both, with you having to wait a good minute or two to see a actual boat with people in it (waited to nail people at white water canyon and it took ten minutes to use 2 quarters... it was not cold enough to close anything for that... It was FREEZING at WWC! I was surprised that anyone rode, but it was mostly people riding several times in a row. As for why that was open and coasters weren't: (assuming the downtime was caused by the weather) coasters have a minimum temperature that they can run at, WWC and Congo (and Flume) don't...well...I guess 32 is a good temperature to stop running those...

I did a walk through of the ride today with the 3D glasses, and the glasses definitely add a lot. It's also pretty creepy. I imagine there will be quite a few crying kids getting off the ride this season.

It's a great day to go, as there are never too many people there, but keep in mind that some rides will not be open because most of our employees are in school.
-
Action Zone isn't open at 9 in the morning though.
-
Sure they do, but not when it interferes with others right to breathe clean air!

Absolutely nothing in your post is even remotely true. Since Smoke Free Ohio passed, business has gone UP at most bars and restaurants. People claimed that the bill would hurt business because the smokers would no longer go to businesses where they can't smoke, but in reality, people that refused to go to businesses that allowed smoking are now going to the bars and restaurants, and the smokers are still going too. If there are no businesses that allow smoking in the state, then the smokers aren't just going to stay home. The 20 Mile Stand hasn't had a steady owner in 10 years. Smoke Free Ohio had nothing to do with the failure of whichever restaurant you are referring to. Smoking is not a right, people should not be able to do it anywhere they want. It is dangerous to those that are doing it and those who are around it. Even in an open air environment like KI, second hand smoke is still in the air and being breathed. I worked at the Log Flume and Phantom Flyers for four years. For three of those years there was a smoking area right next to PF. Even though it's in the open air, I could smell the smoke constantly. It is disgusting, and the majority of people do not smoke and should be free to breathe cleaner air. The rights of the few do not outweigh the rights of the many.

You CANNOT remove the action theater glasses from that ride. If you do, they will be confiscated, as it is stealing.

I would love to see a mural painting commissioned for the tunnels instead, but I'm not sure what the theme would be. I bet they can find someone to hire for cheap to do the job....I'd do it for the cost of paint! (Also, loving the use of 'expedentially' in this answer. ) No need for paint either, just use all the gum that's accumulated over the years.

So are you saying the thousand people that were on the ride were the only people in the park? Because if not, there would be no way of knowing how many people did not go on the ride due to the elephant element. And yes, Enchanted Voyage did have a hill. And I never worked at the park! And I wasn't alive until 88, three years before it became Phantom Theater, and I didn't live in Cincinnati and had never been to KI until after it was Phantom Theater. I also seriously doubt there are many people that refuse to ride because of the elephant except during pre season and post season. On extremely hot days people love to ride it because it cools them off without getting them as wet as WWC or Congo Falls.
-
So you quizzed the people standing outside the queue line that refused to ride due to the elephant? That is what I call a multi-tasking effort for a employee that obviously knows it all! I'd say that the thousand people that ride every hour outnumber those that refuse to ride because the elephant is on. I do, but those are rare during the Summer. If it has a hill, it's supposed to get you wet. Enchanted Voyage didn't have a hill, did it?

We should all hope it is like this ride. It is fantastic! It is MUCH different, and better, than SDatHC, the video does not do it justice. And if anyone has the opportunity, it is located on Clifton Hill in the "Canadian Midway". CM is much like a Dave and Busters I'll take that bet. Sure, kids love to get wet, but family memories last a lifetime. My kids would rather enjoy that particular ride with everyone and get then get soaked on AF. I don't see people that can intelligently argue that. The elephant took away from all family members enjoying the ride. I worked that ride for four years. I've seen thousands of families get off that ride. I can tell you first hand that more people complained when the elephant was not on, because they wanted it to be on. Almost every group of people that had to take two or more boats got off and watched (and laughed) as the second boat in their group got soaked by the elephant. The only time when a significant number of people complain about the elephant is in the pre and post seasons. During the Summer people love the elephant. I worked there. I know.
-
I would also bet that most people like the elephant. I've heard people's responses both when the elephant was turned off and when it was turned off. There are far more people complaining about the elephant when it is off then when it is on. I've also seen many groups who had to ride in multiple boats stay and wait just to see the rest of their group get drenched. The kids love it for the most part, and isn't that who it's about?
-
I would bet quite a bit of money that something is going to replace the elephant.
-
If you don't want to get wet, then don't ride a water ride. The point of a water ride is to get you wet. Anyone can see before they ride that it will get you wet. One of the most annoying things I have to deal with when I work is people complaining about the elephant.
-
Come on, guys. The elephant is what made the ride fun. It's a water ride. You're supposed to get wet. I really hope they put something in it's place, and by the look of the barrel, I think they are.
-
Most definitely is, I've stared at that thing for hours on end from the drivebox for the past 4 years. Luckily this year I won't have to. Really, I'd rather them scrap all the kiddie area stuff on that ride and make it a fully rivertown ride again.

Not quite like Maverick. With Backlot, the train needs to be physically pushed back to the launch position before it can be relaunched. It only rolls back to the safety brakes.
-
Yea, nothing good would come of taking their camera. When I see it I make the offender delete the video or pictures and yell at them, but taking their camera opens up a can of worms.
-
Did some of the ride ops at AT get a little annoyed with SB? Lets just say that pieces of the reel are in many different places, and a lot of those places are not Kings Island.
-
Unless they get a new film reel then I can 100% guarantee that it will not be shown at KI again.
-
No, every ride in the park has a minimum temperature that it can run in, if you go to the park late in the season many of the rides are often closed in the mornings. It's because it's not warm enough to run them.

The guests in the park that day were by far the rudest I had ever had to deal with. His family was also apparently an absolute delight to escort around the park
