  1. This is something we are not explicitly trained for, no, but it is something that everyone does, because it is completely acceptable. Again, there is no one forcing you to put your kid on the ride with a stranger, but it is an option that the ride operator is giving you. If a ride operator ever tried to force you to put your kid on with a stranger then I could understand the outrage, but from what I read from the OP, the ride operator simply put the option out there. If you don't feel comfortable with your kid riding with a stranger then don't let them. But I've had countless parents who have kids too small to ride by themselves and refuse to ride the ride. Often there are empty seats next to other adults and the parents ask me if they can put their kid with them. If it's ok with the parent and the other adult then why on earth should I stop it?
  2. If a parent does not want to ride the ride, or there is no room, I frequently ask them if they would mind their child riding with another adult if they are too short to ride alone. Many of the parents go that route, others do not, no harm done. Besides, on a flat ride you never lose sight of the kid.
  3. The ride operator really did nothing wrong. She was stating a fact. The other woman could have served as the adult that your children needed. Granted, she should have asked if you were ok with it rather than telling you, and obviously the other woman would need to be ok with it as well, but it's quite frequent that children ride with adults that aren't their parent. Also, you'd have to be pretty dumb to let your kids out of your sight on a ride, especially if they were with a stranger.
  4. I didn't realize Congo Falls was a log flume. Those boats sure don't look like logs to me
  5. A guest approached me the other day after riding the log flume and asked me if the slide thing at the end had always been there or if they just added it.
  6. The fact is it is a water ride with a warning outside the front saying that you will get wet. If you don't wish to get wet then why would you ride it? I deal with people that complain about getting wet all day long. It's ridiculous.
  7. It only won't be working if we forget to turn it on. If I'm in it will always be on It's very rarely broken.
  8. It doesn't do anything anymore They put something like a shower head on it so it just mists now, I hate it so much.
  9. Do you go to The Racer after 8 all the time? If so then it's very likely that they go down to one side after the swing shifts go home. This is how we do it at the flume, and I'd expect other rides that can do that do.
  10. I would not recommend the flume with an ankle you can't get wet. Our boats leak like crazy and half the time there is standing water in them, so even if you don't get so wet on the ride, your feet will usually get fairly wet.
  11. That's half the fun If you can make it, then you can ride. You just won't be in the park long afterwards lol
  12. There is no requirement that people wear shirts in the dry park. Three rides in the "dry" park don't require shirts to ride. WWC, Flume, and Congo. People can walk around without shirts, they just need to put them on before riding most rides. I beg to differ. I have MANY times seen security direct young males to put on their shirts in the dry park, and yes, this year. In addition, "people" cannot walk around without shirts, as people includes both males and females. Well, they can, but not without consequences. See also Cedar Point's website (since Kings Island, like on so many other things, is totally devoid of relevant content): http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/park/rides/ride_policy.cfm There is NO reason to think Kings Island's rule would be any different. The only attire required to be worn on WWC, the log flume, and (I assume) Congo Falls, is shoes. I am level 1 (fully trained) on both flume and WWC, so I know the requirements to ride. In the park there might be a requirement for shirts, but it's a rule that isn't told to ride ops, and I've never seen it enforced, and I don't feel it should be if they're going to allow people on the water rides without them. So people can wear JUST shoes? hooky, who couldn't wait for Terpy Technically they could. Security would be waiting when they got off, but yea, they could go nude except for shoes.

  15. It was the Kings Mills Log Flume before 2001. There was never a Hanna-Barbera theme to it, and it has never (and still isn't as far as I'm concerned) been part of the kids area.
  16. I was working Crypt today and I was in the preshow area where the guests wait right before getting on. A guest asked us if the ride just swung back and forth, we told her that, no, it went full circle and flipped. She then said that it used to just swing and it was like a viking ship, then saying that we were too young to remember that. I died a little inside.
  17. I wish tower 3 was still fun. Tower 2 is still amazing though.
  18. That part hasn't changed lol. Sometimes the gate gets caught up by the current and is slow switching sides, or it could just be that she wasn't paying much attention lol.
  19. Yeah, that was quite a surprise. Still not used to it. Every once in a while a boat will go past because we forget to flip the switch back.
  20. 2006-present Flume/Phantom Flyers 2008-present Flume/Phantom Flyers Asst. Sup.
  21. Doesn't really matter if you disagree with him. That is the policy in the park. If you see someone line jumping or doing anything else in the line then tell the ride op. If need be the ride op will call security.
  22. We already work 50+ hours a week and I can guarantee that no one is going to like this change.
  23. Yep. I used to work in the restaurant business, and when a group came in right before closing, that meant we got to stand around for awile before the final closing stuff and get paid until they left...... The difference is, we'll still have lines right up until midnight, and we supervisors will still have to go up to the office afterward to approve shifts and turn in paperwork. That takes a half hour at least. And that's if you get up there early. This is terrible for the employees.
  24. WHAT!?!?!? NOOOO! We don't get out til close to midnight on most Saturday's during the peak season anyway...I don't want to be getting home at 2:30 in the morning. This is bull...
  25. Anyone that that is said to will not be offended. There is a reason that the OSU-Michigan game is the greatest rivalry in sports. Giving crap to opposing fans is not only expected, but encouraged.
