IOA: Poseidon's Fury Vortex Returned!
06jds377 replied to bkroz's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Maybe it's just me, but when I go somewhere I don't want to go to a park for seven consecutive days, I want to go for two long days, tops. Only being in the area for one day, the price is a real turn-off. I'm not looking to spend $350 at a park in a single day for two people. Of course, it is Orlando, so some things are to be expected. -
IOA: Poseidon's Fury Vortex Returned!

I'd really like to stop at US on my way to a cruise, but the $112 admission is really, REALLY deterring. I am not going to spend almost $225 to go to a park for one day. I can go to KI for less than $48 and Dollywood for under $67, for two people obviously. EDIT: math fail -
Of course themed to the 2001 Method Man and Redman comedy of the same name as the teaser text.

400ft giant freefall ride

The heat wasn't too terrible. Didn't feel that hot, felt maybe mid 90's..
-
Absolutely 100% what I want. At KI where several world's firsts and such have happened, first hyper invert please.

8 of those DB rides were essentially back-to-back, with a short hiatus to go ride DT so we could "step on people" I can understand not wanting to marathon a ride, I see where it could get dull. We (4 of us) kept thinking of different ways to ride, and unique ORPs. I think the best was probably us posing the moves from the Macarena in order from left to right.

On DB hands up + feet out = awesome
-
Its almost like a totally different experience. I didn't have a night ride before last night, and bagged 3.
-
A basic rundown would be: 0 lines at all, for a span of about 3 hours everything was esentially a walk-on. Ride list: AE 1 Vortex 1 Beast 1 Delerium 1 Invertigo 1 Crypt 1 Racer 1 FD 1 BLSC 1 FoF 1 Firehawk 1 BB 1 Drop Tower 2 Diamondback 12 Notable events: I had to pull myself out of the seat to avoid serious jackhammering injury on Beast (in a 2nd row seat), may be done with this ride aside from the occasional night ride now. Boo Blasters operated with the strobe light and scream effect. Saw Gary Coleman at DB and rode during fireworks. Irony in "Don't Stop The Music - No show today." Couldn't have been a better day. We even sat down for 3 or 4 hours.

I thought the title was going to be "A group of people jump you..." Slightly disappointed.
-
Diamondback The Beast (night ride, front seat) The Boss Thunderhead FoF Ready to mix this list up a little next year with hopefully KD, BGE, and CP..

I'm at 14 Hope to hit 20 tomorrow.

Do you think sob is tall enough to topple into fd if proper lumberjacks were brought in? -
No Blazing Fury, passed it right up without thinking. I realized it after we left.

Well, Kevin. I do not agree with you on Manhattan Express. I rather ride Mean Streak or Raging Wolf Bobs over Mahattan Express. I rode The Roller Coaster (ME) this March and had no problems at all with it, I thought it was a pretty good ride. I would have hated it had it not been half price tickets though.

I don't usually do TRs (in fact this may be my 2nd or 3rd), but, it had been years since I had visited Dollywood and I was so impressed that I thought I would throw out some good PR. My girlfriend and I made a short, unplanned trip to Gatlinburg last week and decided to throw Dollywood in the mix at the last second on Thursday night (I begged all day ) We arrived at around 11 on Friday, I wasn't impressed with the parking crew as they weren't directing traffic at all and we had to circle the lots for around 20 minutes until we managed to park. Admission was $32.50 for one military and $55.90 for one standard admission (Yikes!) Keep in mind that it had been over 10 years since I had visited the park, and its nearly doubled in size since then. Our day began with a walk up the path towards Thunderhead, we stopped to watch a very entertaining magic-type performance of a man dropping golf balls into cups off of a tray without spilling water out of them, after the 10 minute show was over we continued on to see Thunderhead and a non-operational Timber Tower Thunderhead: this coaster does not get enough credit, well, at least not on KIC. Very good coaster with a good amount of ejector, not only is it fun, its like riding in the La-Z-Boy of coasters! A+ ride! Towards the top of the list in the wood category in my book. After Thunderhead we walked on towards Adventure Mountain, passing Mystery Mine for now. I begged her to buy some Crocs so we could climb, which she did. We spent several hours climbing every course on AM, it was a very fun and unique experience. I'd say we easily blew almost half the day away on this alone. After AM we were hungry, and I was ready to get some of that awesome Dollywood food. We stopped at Ms. Lillian's (or something like that) buffet, paid a total of around $24 for the both of us (drinks included).. It was DELICIOUS! Its unreal that you can get that quality in a park for such a reasonable price, I'll never be able to eat at KI again.. After the feast of fried chicken, country fried steak and gravy, biscuits, ham and beans, mashed potatoes, and triple layer chocolate cake we decided to see what all the park had to offer. We walked over to Chasing Rainbows and hung around in there for a bit, took a ride on the train, and walked around taking in all the sights and sounds before riding more. We then rode Tennessee Tornado, Mystery Mine, and Thunderhead once more before leaving at close. TT was....interesting. All-in-all I liked the ride, but I don't really remember too much of it. I didn't grey out (she did), but I can't say that I really remember the layout. MM was also an interesting ride that I enjoyed a lot. It was a little rough and short for my tastes though. The second ride on Thunderhead was just as good and as memorable as the first. We grabbed some taffy at the candy store towards the front and headed through the emporium, looking for a shirt she really wanted (didn't have her size, they were all big, whats up with that?) and eventually rode the tram to the car. I think I may like Dollywood more than KI. I'm now bored with the notion of KI and most things it has to offer.. A+ day, great experience.

Closely monitoring the net on my phone at work

I'll also be at KI on Thursday, and in Cincinnati for a Corey Smith concert on Wednesday. We're staying at the HI Express Suites Mason (4 people) for $108.

I'm sure CF was concerned with speed, seeing as it was marketed as a high speed ride, designed as a high speed ride, and given a Nascar theme. If CF decided the layout of the ride, and the area it would cover, then the blame is mutual. CF for having such high expectations, and Intamin for designing and manufacturing something that wasn't entirely safe and didn't deliver.
-
I agree completely, it was in the best interest of everyone involved to trim this ride. Shouldn't this situation have been avoided altogether though? Seems to me someone should have stepped up to the plate and said "listen, we just can't do 94mph in such a small area without problems" I believe I305 is a case of a manufacturer promising more than they can do, I'm not sure who decided how much area the coaster would take up, but I still lay blame on intamin as the manufacturer. CF obviously ordered a 94mph giga, and ultimately did not receive that. That said, I'll still check out I305 when I get a chance, it looks great..
-
If you're referring to me, I'm not complaining about the trims, I have no right to. I haven't ever been on I305. I think this is the type of thing Intamin should have seen coming in the development process, surely they knew the force this coaster would exert on guests and itself, there are some pretty darn good computer models out there. This coaster should have been built with a layout that is managable for the punch of speed it packs. I guess my point is, given a better layout, I305 could have still been going 94mph and been an even better ride (one that didn't tear itself to pieces or play vampire on riders' brains). MF covers 13 acres, I305 covers a mere 5. Jus sayin..
