Did we see the birth of a new tasty tradition at KI?
Tanna replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island
This idea is brilliant! Congrats to the inventor. And five dollars isn't too much, considering the cost that goes into making fudge. Fudge is one of the few things I can make (along with funnel cakes and caramel) and the price of the ingredients has skyrocketed. -
The topic line made me laugh. I'd just recently had to deal with two young guardrail gymnasts that did every thing in line but stand still. I understand that for a parent, it's a tiring day, but can they at least look at their kids once every fifteen minutes?

Never heard a KI worker grunt before, either , but hey, it fit with the style

They mistake it for drug screening. -
Well, KI Is a working class park. I have a gold pass this year because I can afford one, last year I had to choose to make home improvements. I can't jet off to the Bahamas for a three day weekend, so I go to the local park. Everyone's complaining about the high cost of the food, but they want the pass to be higher? I'm a graphic artist in Ohio- if it weren't for the 'net, I'd have no job at all. Let me at least enjoy an amusement park. I don't go anywhere else. Besides, I get a kick out of Fastlaners on a slow day. Sometimes I pass them in line.

This isn't super to most people, but I finally went to see the Dinosaurs. The day was perfect anyway, short waits in lines, the weather was great, but after a nosh, I got up the courage to look at the Dinos. It's actually really nice- there's a tear in the foam on one of them, but it mostly looks very good, surrounded by forest. The great big huge thing towards the end scared the bejeezuss out of me, but that's why I went in the first place.

I suspect the good/bad argument would depend on the adaptability of the animal. As shown by cases of keeping exotic animals, it's a lot easier to own a dog than a bear. I don't know how adaptable orcas are, but considering most in captivity have been bred in captivity, have their own dialect and as Faeriewitch has stated, their own family pods, perhaps it doesn't bother them as much. They will never be domesticated, but being intelligent, perhaps they adapt. That's a topic for shark's wife, not me. I think that I identify the orcas as being like dogs, which is stupid, but I still do it. I wondered why they collected urine samples, I just thought it was for sciemtific study. -

There are people that have to be in a constant state of outrage in order to make conversation. One of my friends' has a sister that constantly posts her "Discuss" outrage posts on FB. When she posted about construction workers whistling at women, I had to be honest, "I'm tired of the whining, hon. Have you ever even met a construction worker to know why they do it?" The girl is very spoiled, pampered, and sheltered, and I think a lot of those that feign constant outrage are in the same yacht. They have no real world experience to draw on for conversation, so they relay on a 'worksheet' approach to debate their nothing topics. Most outragers are very boring people, that's why they have to glean talking points from documentaries. They are boring because they don't think for themselves, or do anything real with their lives. -
APE, That's exactly what I think about Fastpass. I can wait two seats in exchange for park improvments.

Who's been to Kennywood?
Tanna replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
You must! It's about 4 hours from Cincy, so it's equidistant to Cedar Point and Dollywood. It's SO worth it! It's that close? The same amout of time as a trip to my uncle's country place that no one knows about. -

I've always wanted to go for the main reason you stated; dark rides. -
One thing I realized I liked very much are the Litter Gitters. Has anyone else noticed how clean the park is? It's a small thing but it feels so much better to walk through KI now than it did when it was owned by Paramount. It makes the park like a getaway place. Also, I'm liking that the cleaning crew smiles back. I understand a good deal of their job is to look down, but they always smile when you see them, and always help to the best of their ability when asked for information.

I'm glad that Fred Flintstone suit is retired. I don't know if I'd want to deal with that.

Small things that need changed at Kings Island.

I've had some very interesting conversations with complete strangers in queues. Or you can post in the meetups forum and find someone else from here in the park. I did that at DisneyLand as a kid, went alone first thing in the morning, caught, and one time missed, the last bus at night. I met people from allover the world, and some people were kind enough to give me their leftover ride tickets, a lot of E tickets were had that day. -
It's easier to see trespassers with the lights on. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but there's security bipping allover the park, some in carts? It makes it easier not to mow into something with the lights on. (BTW, it's almost time for the yearly article on the crews that keep the rides safe and in top condition. One of those "little things" that I'd like to see added is a coffee and donut tour before the park opens, just to see these guys at work.)

Gazing over event photos, especially the Viva La Musica Festival, it looks like Seaworld goes all out for special events, with special menus, costumes for their mascots, special participations, etc.. For a week long festival, that's a lot of planning and work. How many festival/special events do they have a year? -

Food prices all around have gone up, meat prices especially. There's a point where the park can't help to raise the prices. The restuarants outside the park may have lower prices, but look under the bun at the next burger you buy. It might be s good deal smaller than you remember. -
Kraft has got instant free advertisement every time some shmoe uploads his picture by that thing on Twitter. For the price of the sculpture, and the rental space, it seems they are getting their dough's worth.

I don't want to order the kids' meal, either- that's just tacky. -
I saw this happen. Anyone taking offense to the polite way the guy coralled the smoker doesn't need to be in public. The guy that was warned just politely walked over to where the rest of us were sitting. It helps that they have big signs thanking you for keeping your smoking to that one area.

I suspect the Lost Princess at Chik-Fil-A will find her crown and beats cheeks out of there by summer, too. It helps your job to not look and act towards your customers as if you were constipated. I've only had one relative not love working KI, she now a professional couch sitter. There's one in every family.

As a skinny person, I think we have as much responsibility for using common sense as fat people. I don't feel comfortable on Firehawk. Firehawk is safe, one of my nieces is the same size as me, and rides it every time, but I feel like I'm holding myself up from falling. Having a metal plate in my drawing arm might produce undue stress, and break my arm again. I'm not doing that to Firehawk fans. If a skinny person is getting knocked around too much by a ride, or is in just a loose position that they feel unsafe, they shouldn't ride. Most rides that fit loose are assuming that the riders have thighs to catch and hands to hold the bar. I don't ride hands up on some rides, or else one side of my ribcage would be meeting the ribs on the other side by the end of the ride. I'm not saying that if the lap bar doesn't reach your thighs, to flag a worker and get out, I'd never ride The Racer or DB if that were the case, especially since that's part of DB's design to give airtime. I'm saying that if you are so lightweight, that the Scrambler smashes you into the far side of the seat to cause pain, don't ride it. Don't mess up the ride for other patrons with unnecessary down time and investigations.

I was sitting next to someone who got his fingers whacked by the helix tunnel on The Beast. It can happen. He had his arms up, and the best he could figure, the momentum forced his arm sideways. He's 6'2", and not asinine, it just happened. I love that DB gives the illusion of danger with it's airtime, but has all those cleverly engineered safety gadgets built on. I dislike that the seatbelt bites into that illusion of danger, and even at my puny weight, wouldn't trust a mere strip of woven plastic to keep me in a ride.

I photographed Stinky with it. It's obviously a pretty popular portrait background.
