  1. I notice little difference. You feel a lot more free since you aren't slammed in with the person next to you. It can get a little rough at the bottom of the first two drops, but it's really insignificant. Still the smoothest coaster at the park. I will say that the hammerhead turn (after the 3rd hill) and the final helix (before splashdown) are a lot more fun since you hang over the edge. Try going in first thing in the morning, during ERT if possible. They don't assign seats if you get there early enough.
  2. King's Island will NEVER be as good as Cedar Point. King's Island is a local park visited by locals, and will remain popular with locals no matter what's installed. 60%-70% of visitors are frequent visitors or pass holders. Then there's Cedar Point... Cedar Point is different than King's Island. It's a tourist destination. People visit Cedar Point from all over the world, which is why it has more rides. Cedar Point needs the draw to give them worldwide attention. It's also more than just a park... it's a resort. Challenge Park, Castaway Bay, Soak City along with all there is to do in Sandusky. If anyone on the board says that King's Island is better, they either haven't visited or are just sticking up for their local park (which is fine) I realize that King's Island gets more visitors than Cedar Point, but that's to be expected. King's Island is near Cincinnati and Dayton. Cedar Point is in Sandusky, and the only larger city near is (maybe) Cleveland. Less season pass holders, more tourist. Just the opposite at King's Island. More pass holding locals, less tourist. King's Island is treated like a local draw and will continue to be so. And with the addition of Diamondback, the locals who haven't visited for years are starting to return.
  3. I would like a SS Screaming Swing or a Jump2. Preferably a Screaming Swing. X-Base could use one of the two, since it's missing a flat ride. I would also like to see Chaos moved from Cedar Point to Coney Mall at King's Island, but I don't know if that would happen. I think that King's Island is better on the flat rides than most parks. Action Zone has 2 modern flats, and Coney Mall is filled with traditional flat rides. I think the odds of us getting a flat ride in the next few years is greater than a coaster. I'd say to expect a flat ride in 2012 and a coaster in 2015. Son of Beast is the park's main priority now, so I wouldn't expect much until that problem is fixed... or eliminated.
  4. Paramount WILL NOT buy back King's Island. Saying that they will is about as crazy as saying that they are going to reinstall the loop on Son of Beast. Enough said. I would rather have Cedar Fair in charge. No one here can say if Cedar Fair will go bankrupt or not. Not a single person.
  5. I don't think that much would change if the park was completely relinquished of their debt. Dick Kinzel has said that most of Cedar Fair's capital investments in the next few years will be at Cedar Point, so I don't think much would change at Kings Island. He said this in an interview talking about the financial outlook of Cedar Fair in 2010 being brighter than 2009. I think the only thing that would change Kings Island would be the change of management. Granted this change could be for better or for worse. I voted optimistically by saying that changing the management would make it better. With that being said, I'm not sitting here screaming "Out with the old!" I like the way Cedar Fair is running the park, but that's just me. They might not be improving the park at a great pace (this might change when/if the debt is gone), but I think the park is moving in the right direction.
  6. What if The Racer wasn't built at King's Island. the entire industry would be different. If The Racer was really what "sparked interest in coasters again", then King's Island might only have one or two coasters today. This goes for any park. Heck, Cedar Point might not have built Magnum if it wasn't for The Racer, and we all know that the Magnum is what started the coaster wars. The amusement park industry would be pretty boring if The Racer wasn't built. And right now The Racer is sitting to the far left of the park. The white paint is chipping, there are black stains under the lift, and the line has grass growing between the massive cracks in the concrete. If the ride didn't have trains on it I would be easily convinced that it's SBNO. Nice...
  7. Diamondback was brought up when Paramount was in charge but would we of got it? I Don't know. I've heard that it was offered when Paramount was in charge but didn't want it, but when Cedar Fair took over the park they welcomed a star attraction with open arms. That's just what I've heard, so don't take that as fact unless someone can confirm it. I'll also add that the park is a lot cleaner with Cedar Fair. I remember the path being covered with Coke cups and paper towels, but I haven't seen a single piece of trash on the path since Cedar Fair took over.
  8. In my opinion, Cedar Fair has made King's Island a better place. They've given us Diamondback, fixed up the Rivertown area, redone the kids area, ect. They also keep the staff efficient, which (in my experience) makes the lines move a lot quicker.
  9. I don't see any reason to set an order of which coaster to ride first, second, and last. There's only three coasters, and the park usually clears out after lunchtime because families flock to Spashin Safari. You should be able to get in more rides than you'd expect. I can remember last year I rode the Raven 7 times in a half an hour at about 3 o'clock. The Raven is my favorite ride in the park. It's short, but it's filled with airtime and speed. It's also smooth compared to the other two woodies in the park. If only the ride lasted another 30 seconds it would be my second favorite woodie. The Legend is my least favorite of the three. It's fun, but it's also the roughest of the three. It's packed with strong laterals and gives a great "out of control" feeling. The Voyage is a great ride. Amazing airtime, never ending speed, and the triple down in the dark is a wet dream for any coaster enthusiast. It can get rough, which is why it's not my favorite. I don't know if the Timberliners will help the roughness out. I shall see this August. Kringle's Cafe is in the Christmas section near the entrance. I'm not sure what their entire menu is, but I know they have pizza. There's other food stands around the park obviously, and the food prices are much cheaper than any corporate park you've ever visited. I haven't tried any, but I've heard that the park's Fudge is VERY good. The park is filled with tons of flat rides, mostly traditional. Liberty Launch is a lot of fun. I haven't ridden a lot of the spinning flats because I'm lame.
  10. Very good topic! It's easy for me to say that my biggest turn off are rides that are excessively rough. If I get off of a ride and I have trouble walking (coughs)Mean Streak(coughs) then I'm going to rank the ride lower than than average. I'm with Terpy and the fact that I don't mind violent rides, but I don't like rides that rattle your brains. When Geauga Lake was open, my favorite ride other than the Dipper was Villian. Voting for my favorite trait in a coaster isn't as easy, but I voted speed as my favorite of the ones listed. I like every one of the traits listed, and a lot of my favorite rides have those traits, but a constant speed is what I look for in rides. I hate trim brakes and mid course brakes more than most people. I think the last half of Diamondback after the MCBR is boring to the point that I put my hands down and wait for the ride to be over. I crave rides like Millennium Force that start off fast and remain fast until the very end. Airtime is fun, but I don't need it to enjoy myself. The Beast doesn't have any airtime, but it's still my favorite woodie.
  11. Market yourself as a good worker. Explain why you think you're fit for the job, say why you want the job, and talk about your history. If this is your first job then talk about school. Anything that could bump you in front of the next guy. And as others have said, dress nice. Maybe not a Wall Street Business suit but semi-formal never hurt anyone. Also, use common sense. Show up on time, don't use slang ("hey dude") when doing the interview, ect.
  12. ^ Keep in mind, Cedar Fair's goal is to make money off of food, drinks, and merchandise. Their admission is cheap compared to Busch and Six Flags, which both focus more on admission as income.
  13. I'm doubting that a ZacSpin would work at Cedar Point, especially at the front of the park in DD's old spot. Terrible capacity coasters + location + summer crowds could lead up to a 2-2 1/2 hour wait, and for a 10 second ride it's not worth it. If I'm correct, Dick Kinzel has said that he refuses to add a B&M Flyer to Cedar Point because of capacity problems, and a ZacSpins have an even slower capacity.
  14. My thoughts are as follows: I am doubting a new coaster will show up at the park anytime soon. The Voyage is still drawing in people from around the country, so adding another world class thrill ride won't be necessary for at least another 5 years. And when one is added, it will probably not be a wooden coaster. Adding another woodie would be extremely redundant. I also doubt that the Christmas Section, The Independence Day Section, and even the Halloween section will change much in the future. The park has a lot of room to expand towards the back of the park, so removing anything at the front of the park isn't needed. It's obvious that the water park is Holiday World's main draw, as that's where most people go for the majority of the day. The past two additions to the park have been water rides, and as long as they stay popular, I don't see the trend stopping for another couple years. With that being said, I could see a wild mouse or a sit down looper added by 2016.
  15. ^ Good until noon. The crowds were light early but the lines started to pile up so we left. On our way out there was a long line at the ticket window.
  16. ^Amen. Cedar Point on a Saturday is a mistake. Going in the middle of the week is an amazing time. I'd like to mention is that the lines at KI are a lot shorter under Cedar Fair's management. Cedar Fair's number one priority is ride operation, and they do an amazing job of perfecting the speed of dispatching trains.
  17. I just got back from KI, so I figured I'd post a small TR on what happened. We got there at 9 for ERT and began our day with a ride on Diamondback. Good. After seeing that The Beast was running and realized that I still haven't gotten a front row ride on it yet this season, we ran over in that direction. It was running, but the station was EMPTY. There was just one other person on the train with us, and when we left there was no one in sight. The front row on The Beast is my favorite seat. It's unbelievably smooth compared to riding in the 3rd row of a car near the back of the train. The helix was great as usual. When we arrived back at the station we saw a few more people in line, and of course some where waiting for the front. The ride-op offered another ride in an empty seat. We grabbed 4:2. The ride was a little bumpy, but not a brain rattler. It felt a lot quicker in the back, but not as intense as the front. At our next stop at the station we were given another re-ride in the same seat. The train was full at this point, so we figured that this would be our last ride. It was. After our 3 ride marathon without leaving the station, we decided to squeeze in one last ride on Diamondback before ERT ended. After ERT we ran towards X-base so my dad could get his first ride on Firehawk, but guess what... it was closed with a line gathered up. In my experience, Firehawk is the least reliable ride in the park. We got a ride on Flight of Fear instead. We finished off our short day with a ride on The Racer (only the red side was running), Delirium, Adventure Express, Flight Deck, and Vortex. The Adventure Express brought back a lot of memories since that was my first ride on it since I was about 12. Of course I rode Vortex in 5:1, which is my favorite seat. The crowds were starting to pile up, so we left just before noon. Other than that, the day was pretty uneventful. The Memorial Decorations on International Street were cool, and the hour long ERT was a lot of fun. Thanks for reading! Diamondback - x2 Beast - x3 Flight of Fear - x1 Adventure Express - x1 Racer - x1 Delirium - x1 Flight Deck - x1 Vortex - x1
  18. First off, welcome to KIC. So, because we are already exposed to unhealthy ammounts of pollution from other sources we shouldn't mind being exposed to someone's pollution for pleasure. You just don't have a good arguement. Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying... Breathing in a slight exhale of smoke isn't going to hurt you any worse than you are already are. If I were to cut you open and take a picture of your lungs you wouldn't like what you see... City smog, exhaust fumes... the list keeps going. With all that in mind, breathing in someone's smoke from 50 feet away isn't any worse than already so. And I could just as easily say that (if I was a smoker) I'm putting myself at a disadvantage for YOUR enjoyment. Either way you want to look at it, neither side is coming to an agreement, but that doesn't stop the fact that guest who want to smoke will continue to smoke in their areas. Cedar Fair allows it because they want to provide the most customer-friendly environment that they can, just as all businesses do. It's not about you, it's about just you, it's about all the guests. They aren't loosing guests because they allow smoking, but they might certainly loose some if they don't allow smoking. You can't compare it to another ban, because you don't spend 6-10 hours in other places like you do in an amusement park. If a restaurant doesn't allow it then you could just as easily go outside or sit in your car, but some people can't go 6 hours without a cigarette.
  19. I haven't bothered reading this entire topic, so I'll just post based off of what I've read in the first 2 pages. Considering the fact that we pollute the air with our cars, semis, buildings, ect... walking within 50 feet of someone exhaling a puff of cigarette smoke isn't going to do anything substantial. Do I think secondhand smoke is a problem? Sure, but overkill is a problem, too. There are far worse things you can be exposed to other than a slight stench of smoke from off in the distance (example: firsthand smoke from your own cigarette). What I find to be hilarious is the fact that people wonder why the park allows people to smoke. I don't know if other people realize this, but amusement parks are meant to make the days of their guests as enjoyable as possible. People would be upset and possibly not visit if they weren't allowed to smoke. Smokers are people, too, and if they want to smoke and damage their lungs then that's their choice. They even have their own area to do it, so stop complaining and get a life... This is coming from a person who has only smoked once, hated it, never plans on doing it again, and thinks that smoking is disgusting.
  20. Well, keep in mind that it's summer, and the water park is open. A lot of families will head over to the water park after lunchtime. With that being said, the best time to go are obviously weekdays. However, avoid 3 day weekends and 4th of July like the plague! Any day that people get off of work, the park will be packed. In my experience, the park is less crowded in June than July & August, so you may want to get some trips in pretty soon.
  21. I've noticed that the park is looking nice this year. They've really gone out of their way to improve landscaping, improve the NU to PS, as well as bring Snoopy's Starlight (Spectacular?) I don't know, considering that there aren't any new attractions this year, they've really worked a lot of things out. I'm looking forward to seeing Snoopy Starlight Spectacular.
  22. ^ Sadly enough we tried out the lines at X-Base, but the Flight of Fear line was about 30 minutes (usually is) and Firehawk was closed (usually is) We would have waited for Flight of Fear, but how can you expect us to do that when all of the other lines are walk ons?
  23. ^ Exactly CoastersRZ, Cedar Fair doesn't seem to realize that there's more to making money than just jacking up the price. Their leverage stops somewhere, and when it gets to the point that pop machines cost 4 bucks is where it stops. We've always packed a cooler in the car and walk to the car whenever we want a drink. It's a little walking, but it's worth it. Cedar Fair needs to realize that walking up to a food stand in one of their parks makes the customers feel like they're turning yourself into the police or paying a parking ticket... it's something that you want to avoid at all costs. When you're at an amusement park, you're not hungry all day, but there isn't a single moment when you wouldn't kill for a Coke or Sprite. If drinks weren't so expensive then walking up to a food stand wouldn't seem so taboo, which would increase food sales as well. Heck, I'm not even asking for free drinks. I'm just asking for reasonable priced drinks. This isn't only at Cedar Fair parks either, it's everywhere! We ate a Frisch's today and the orange juice I drank costs $2.75! I could buy a jug for that!
  24. I made a wrong assumption. Usually when someone says "new trains" they mean new&improved trains. Let me explain. I don't think Timberliners or Millennium Flyers would work on a ride like The Racer. Part of the fun of The Racer (or any classic woodie for that matter) is sitting down low in the car, not riding on top of the car. If it gets new trains I would like to see duplicates of what the trains were originally like, or at least something built similar. And if The Racer gets these nostalgic trains then it's slightly older, blue cousin up North should also get a set. Obviously this isn't going to happen so I don't even know why I'm bothering typing this...
  25. ^ Same. When we left there were a lot of people coming in, but the entire time I was there I didn't see Diamondback's line longer than 15 minutes.
