  1. Or if The Racer gets new trains... The Racer was built by PTC. New trains won't change that. I'd also rather see PTC trains stay on it even if it means that both sides have to run forwards.
  2. We arrived at 9:30 right as the park gates were opening for ERT. We flashed our Platinum Passes and got ourselves two rides on Diamondback. We went to check on The Beast, but it wasn't running. Me and my dad realized that we haven't ridden Invertago or Flight Deck yet this season, so we decided to head to Action Zone. Action Zone was empty, obviously because everyone was sprinting towards Diamondback. We got ourselves two rides on Invertago, and both were walk-on rides. Invertago was running about as well as it normally does. It's a little bumpy for my taste, but it's still fun for what it is. After Invertago we headed over to Flight Deck. In my opinion, Flight Deck is a good ride, and if it was only given a little more care it would be great. Unfortunately, suspended Arrow coasters seem to be reaching the end of their lives, which is quite a shame. We decided to finish out the Action Zone marathon with Delerium and Drop Tower. We tackled all of Action Zone (along with two rides on Invertago) in a little more than 40 minutes. We walked on up to Coney Mall. Both of the other times I've visited this season the Blue Train on The Racer was running and the Red wasn't. This time it was just the opposite! The Red Train was running but the Blue wasn't. We rode in the front seat, and had quite a bit of fun on it. In my experience, the best seat on the ride is the front seat of the blue side, but the red side was fun, too. It was 11:00 now. The ride count was now at 8. We walked up Coney Mall and rode The Vortex. This was our longest wait of the day, even though we only waited about 4 minutes. I decided to ride in 5:1, which I've heard is the best seat. I'm never sitting in any other seat on that ride again... We saw that The Beast had begun running so we walked over to get a ride on it. This ride was in 3:3, which was a bit of a screw up. The Beast is my favorite woodie, but riding in any of the -:3 seats makes it a rough ride. The ride was fast, but far from smooth. It's a little depressing that I haven't had an impressive ride on The Beast yet this season. Next time I visit that's the first ride I'm running for, and I'm going for the front row. We walked towards the car and decided to leave. We were both tired from the night before and decided to head out before the day got too hot. I'm not sure what time it was, but I'd assume it was around noon. Diamondback - x2 (both near middle, not as good as front) Invertago - x2 Flight Deck - x1 Drop Tower - x1 Delerium - x1 Red Racer - x1 Vortex - x1 Beast - x1 = 10 rides from 9:30 to Noon... good day. Anyday we want to hit Action Zone, we're going to it the first thing in the morning. The lines were nonexistent.
  3. Has this speed ever been measured? A friend of mine guessed it was about 70, but taking a closer look last week it didn't look any more than about 55. EDIT: The reason I'm not a big fan of Millie is consistency. The drop and first overbank are amazing. Perfect. But after that, speed isn't enough. In my opinion, you need a ride to keep you entertained, and I just don't feel it does. The part between the tunnels is pretty boring, IMO. The part after the tunnels is decent, I like the bunny hill by the station, as it provides some good air. But other than the bunny hill, first drop, and first overbank, I just don't think the ride delivers consistently. I've heard several times that the braking system had to be designed to stop the train while it was going 65-70 mph. So even if it doesn't go that all the time, it's been that fast before.
  4. Millennium Force is my favorite roller coaster of all time (just barely skimming past The Beast) It's a ride that takes you by the arm and doesn't let you go. Once the train goes over the first hill, you are in heaven. You hit 4 gs at the bottom of the drop, and you're flung over the overbank turn. By this point of the ride, any doubts you've had about the ride are lost. The speed never lets up, the adrenaline keeps pumping, and it's all done as smooth as possible. What impresses me most about the ride is the fact that it delivers on so many forces, but doesn't let up on the speed. The ride's max speed is 93mph, and the final stretch of track by the station delivers speeds of 70mph. That's only a 23 mph drop, and Diamondback looses that by the time it reaches the 4th hill. The speed of the Millennium never stops until the ride stops... just the way it should be. If you're one of the people who doesn't like Millennium Force for one reason or another (I've heard people claim that there isn't any airtime) then I think you should pay attention the the riders who get off of the train. Everyone on the train has their hands up by the final overbank. Everyone's smiling and screaming their lungs out, releasing all the adrenaline that they can. First time riders are mesmerized by what they have just experienced. This is what a trip to an amusement park is all about. I don't think Millennium Force will ever be topped, especially not by another steel coaster. In my opinion, it's what settled Cedar Point as the best amusement park in the world, settled Intamin as the best company, and it still stands as a masterpiece of physics and engineering.
  5. It's not only dingy gray, but it has little brown specks where the paint's chipped away. Oh, and don't forget about the black crap when you look up from underneath the entrance to Xbase.
  6. ^ He's saying that the speed of the ride doesn't make a difference, it's the amount of negative gs, which is all that Diamondback is. It's negative gs from start to finish. And for a ride that has all that airtime, that is that open, and has no seatbelt... more than one click is understandable.
  7. We do this from time to time. We usually stay until lunch, get us some Skyline, and leave. If we don't feel like spending the money for the food then we leave. With that being said, the lines after lunchtime are usually too long to waste time with. That's what I love about Season Passes, you can go, enjoy, and leave once it becomes too crowded. When buying a one day ticket to a park you feel pressured to experience the entire park in one day. With that being said, there are days that we stay until about 5, and there are days that we arrive later in the day. And with Snoopy's Starlight thing, we'll be hitting the park at night more often.
  8. This episode proves a point... The Racer needs a new coat of paint! Comparing the way it once looked to now is absolutely pathetic!
  9. The 3 click rule is dumb. Think about this: Guests under 48" can't ride Millennium Force and are denied rides to it everyday. Everytime I stand in line I see a kid get denied access (or "take the walk of shame") because he/she isn't tall enough. If these guests can't be given the proper attention by the designers or the park, then why should people who have a large waistline? Both are examples of discrimination, but both have their place because of the safety issue. You shouldn't let a 37" tall kid on Millennium Force just as you shouldn't let someone ride Diamondback after just one click.
  10. ^ But what about the people that can't fit on Diamondback?
  11. I'd make one trip early in the season and (maybe) one trip late in the season. This is a very good scenario, and this proves how much season passes work for what they aim to do.
  12. Definitely something there, too. If I'm correct, it's a law that amusement parks have to follow instructions given from the company that built the rides. So if Cedar Point sees a problem, the seats get tighter. If Intamin sees a problem, they get tighter. The seats weren't made tighter just to make your day miserable. Another thing I'd like to throw out there is the fact that a lot of people that can't fit Millennium Force also can't fit Diamondback, and Diamondback doesn't even have seat belts! So the problem is beyond the seat belts. Every year there are complaints at the beginning of the season that everything's become smaller. Has anyone stopped to consider the possibility that one of the reasons that they can't fit is because they've gained weight over the winter when you don't go outside as often? I'm not saying that the belts didn't get smaller, but could it possibly be that people have gotten bigger? I don't know, maybe my logic is strange.
  13. ^ That's why making the extra effort to keep the weight down is important. My Dad's 60 and he's never weighed more than 170 pounds in his entire life. With that being said he's worked manual labor his whole life (and still does today) and only eats fast food about once a month.<br>
  14. I'm on the side of people who think that it isn't the park's fault for not fitting in a seat. There's a test seat out by the entrance to test yourself, so if you wait all day and don't fit, it isn't the park's fault. Weight is something that is becoming a problem in this country, and it's not something that needs to be accommodated everywhere we go. If anything, society should encourage people (not force people of course, it's their choice) to loose the extra pounds. Heck, if you're upset that you can't fit in the seat, then you should also be upset that people under 48" can't ride, because that's also discrimination. When you think about it, people have more control over their weight than they do their height...
  15. The thing to keep in mind about lines is that Boomerang Bay will be open. Similar to Holiday World, the park is decently crowded in the morning, but people will typically leave for Boomerang Bay around lunch, leaving the rest of the park with 5-10 minute waits. Sometime soon after lunch I usually hit 10 minute waits.
  16. While the topic of customer service is up, I might as well add my two cents. I've been visiting Cedar Point since 2004, making one to three trips every year. When I started visiting, I remember the customer service being mediocre (I was a little young), but by 2008 the service had become absolutely awful. The employees were poor at their job, unenthusiastic, or just plain rude. It was bad to the point that we considered never going back. With that being said, I thought that my visit last year was the best visit to the park I've ever had. ALL of the ride-ops were friendly and happy, and I can still remember the great waiter we had at TGI Friday's. I only recall one or two terrible employees, and you'll find employees that bad no matter where you go. Employees seem a little off because they are pressured earlier in the season, and this can be applied to the park atmosphere in general.
  17. A re-creation of the Cyclone or even something with a similar layout would be great. I agree with the article that was posted, Disaster Transport almost ruins the area. I'd much rather be looking up at a fast, tall, and impressive wooden coaster instead a big, tan building. With that being said, I doubt Cedar Point will be taking down anything for the sake of it's coaster tally.
  18. If the new parking lot near the marina is true, then we could certainly expect something bigger than just a flat. Let's just hope that it isn't going to be a ride that gets thrown up over the parking lot. http://img.groundspeak.com/waymarking/display/a50c3f64-0416-4869-b31b-6f963baf2eb9.JPG
  19. Congrats on the rollback and riding the first train of the year! Man I wish I could get to Cedar Point on opening day one year. That year will probably be the year I get my drivers license haha The Platinum Pass problem is getting to be ridiculous. Hopefully they'll have the problem figured out by the time we get around to Cedar Point in June.
  20. Off topic, but trees are something that Cedar Point is missing. A lot were taken out to do Shoot the Rapids, leaving a lot of Millennium Island bare. Anymore, the only trees left are the ones left around Frontier Trail (after STR) and the ones in the center of the park, around Iron Dragon. IMO, there needs to be an offseason where a ton of trees are brought in and planted along the midways, especially around the front of the park. If I'm correct, that section is the employee parking lot. I might be wrong, so don't hold me to that.
  21. I agree. It's way too early to announce an overhaul. Plus, Mean Streak has had some retracking done this offseason. EDIT: If I'm correct, it gets retracked almost every offseason.
  22. Looks amazing! I can't wait to see it finished and in person.
  23. EVERYTHING I SAY HERE IS JUST ME SPECULATING. DON'T TAKE ANYTHING I SAY THAT SERIOUSLY I say that there will be a new wooden coaster at the Point, which is what CP has needed for a while. Considering the area, it will probably be a twister rather than an out and back. This could really spice up the area, because adding a woodie would give WT midway a classic "beach boardwalk" feel. I can foresee the entrance to the new ride located where Demon Drop was and the parking lot (to the right) for the bulk of the ride. As far as which company will (or has) been chosen for the project, I could see either GCI or Intamin chosen. Cedar Fair has taken a liking to GCI (Prowler, Renegade) but Cedar Point has a lot of Intamin coasters, so we will have to wait and see. I'm crossing my fingers for a GCI since I've never ridden one. Sorry for my poor grammar in this post, but I wrote this in a hurry.
  24. I agree with what most people have said. If you want value, go someplace else. However, if eating in the park is important, then you have a lot of options. LaRosa's and Skyline are the local favorites found around the park. As Terpy said, they don't taste the same in the park as outside of the park. The portions are a lot smaller and the food is priced higher. I still believe that both of these places offer enough food for a quick lunch. If you're looking for something to snack on, then I recommend Potato Works (located in Rivertown) for fresh cut thick fries and chicken bites. I'd also suggest stopping by Cinnabon for some really tasty rolls. If none of those appeal to you, then I don't see how you could not like Dippin' Dots or Funnel Cakes. For Dinner, the Stunt Crew Grill in Action Zone and Outer Hanks in Oktoberfest are both worth checking out, but the buffet in Rivertown has good food and (from what I remember) is one of the few good deals in the park. If you're still not interested in what I've said, then there are countless fast food restaurants less than a two minute drive away where you can order a burger off of the dollar menu.
  25. We shouldn't go ahead and say that we're certainly going to get what Canada's Wonderland gets. It would be really nice to have an invert, but I wouldn't look forward to something that wouldn't come for the rest of this season OR the season after, and that's if the speculation is true. I think that Cedar Fair will either re-open Son of Beast or open a new ride the year after they take it down, and when that will be I know as little as everybody else. I'm wishing for the invert, but I'm pessimistic about everything until I can see solid concrete evidence. Of course I did say the same thing about I305 .
