I've tried searching for a topic like this but I've been unable to find one. If I overlooked it I'm sorry. I've been curious as to what everyone's favorite Cedar Fair park is. I've decided to take King's Island and Cedar Point out of the poll. Since this is a King's Island forum King's Island would obviously come out on top. Cedar Point is also a cliched answer, so I decided to not include it.

This is a little off topic, but (being 15) I never thought that I had the opportunity to ride Phantom Theater, so I never bothered looking up anything about it. Watching that video brought back a memory. Thanks for that.

How much longer will KI's coasters/major rides last?
Pillsberry123 replied to McSalsa's topic in KI Polls
You're right when you say that they have to much money, time, and space invested... so why invest more? There's been multiple lawsuits, bad publicity, and money used to fix the ride and upkeep it (even though it isn't running). The ride was even noted for not being built well when it first opened back in 2000. Cedar Fair didn't build the ride, own the park when it was built or approve the project. Why would Cedar Fair waste more time, money, and reputation on the ride? There's nothing they can do to undo the bad reputation that SOB has caused. Not to mention that Cedar Fair isn't in the best economic situation right now. Why spend the money to keep it up just so it can attract more lawsuits? -

As others have said, The Racer and The Beast will stick around for as long as the park does. Cedar Fair would get some strong criticism for tearing down ACE Landmarks. Vortex - 2020 Diamondback - 2050 Invertago - 2018 Son of Beast - 2010-2011 BLSC - 2025 -
Great Trip Report and great pictures. It looks like they have a TON of variety in their flats.

Looking through patterns in King's Island's past doesn't work when you consider that the park is run by a different company. When we look through Cedar Fair's past: 2010 - Intimidator/I305 2009 - Prowler/Diamondback 2008 - Behemoth/Geauga Lake Rides 2007 - Maverick/Renegade/Firehawk Next year I think we can plan on something new for Knott's Berry Farm and possibly Dorny Park. The year after I think we could have something added for Cedar Point. That is assuming that Cedar Fair finds a balance in their budget, which from the looks of it is a difficult thing to do. I don't see anything impressive added at King's Island until the SOB problem is taken care of. Until then, Diamondback will continue to suffice the general public as something new and novel.

Yesterday I was in line for Delerium. The people in front of me had been waiting for about 10 minutes and I hear "Does Delerium do any loops".

None taken. Thanks for the response.

A quick question about Bring a Friend Day. If I have another person with me who has a discounted ticket, can they get in early with me? I assume that they couldn't but my Dad's insisting that they can (he doesn't know from experience. He's going by the "of course they can, that's what makes sense" philosophy).

Sitting in computer class. There's a conversation across the room right now about how "Diamondback is the tallest coaster in the world".

EDIT: Now there's someone saying that The Vortex is taller haha
This is a little off topic, but I think they should have painted the ride and improved on the look of it. The turnaround when the train leaves the station is terrible looking. That being said, the track work improved the Blue Side (not sure about Red) My front seat ride was the best ride I've had on it in a LONG time. A lot of airtime and SMOOTH as glass. The ride experience is good, but it could defiantly use some improvements on the look.

I think people in this thread who say that it couldn't survive are assuming that it would still market itself as a park for thrillseekers. It would not. There are plenty of small theme parks like Coney Island that survive today along with fairs, carnivals, as well as parks like Holiday World. If King's Island had all the same attractions that it had in 1972, then it would also attract people who come just to see shows, buy things, and just enjoy the landscaping. Riding rides was (and would be) a secondary thing, if not one of many things to do when visiting King's Island. Plus, I'm convinced that The Racer was much better in the past than it is today, and the same goes with rides like Blue Streak, ect.

This is my first year with a season pass and it's a Platinum. King's Island is my home park, but I'm a hardcore Cedar Point fan and I plan on going for about 3 days. I'm also planning on a short trip up to Michigan to ride Shivering Timbers. I'm also going to BURN IT UP going to King's Island all summer long. After hearing the reviews of King's Dominion and Intimidator 305 I'm going to defiantly have to make a trip there, too.

Today when I was in line for Flight of Fear and I heard two guys talking about how Maverick is going to be taken down because it isn't safe. lol

First off I would like to say that this was my first visit to an amusement park this early in the year as well as my first visit to an amusement park as a Season Pass Holder. All weekend the weather forecast called for rain, rain, and more rain, but since the morning was supposed to be pretty clear, we decided to go for it. It didn't rain the entire time we were there, but it began to sprinkle once we left. Me and my Dad woke up at about 7 and left at 8, putting us at the park at around 9:30. We showed the gate guard our pass certificates and parked in the gold pass parking area. We headed up to the gates and processed our Platinum Passes, which was a lot easier than I had expected. At this point, it was about 9:45 so we headed into the park straight for Diamondback. My first ride of the 2010 season was a front row ride on Diamondback. This was my 4th or 5th ride on Diamondback, but it was my first in the front seat. Simply outstanding views as well as airtime. The floating airtime moments over the 3rd and 5th hill were outstanding. It was a great way to start off the season. Before heading off to The Beast we noticed that a lot of people were wearing Intimidator 305 shirts (possibly a lot of people from KICentral?) I don't remember where I sat for my first ride on The Beast, but I remember that it was in the 3rd row of the car. The ride on The Beast was refreshing after the offseason, but I would have preferred a front row seat. Oh well, on to Vortex. As usual, we rode The Vortex near the back of the train assuring great airtime on the first drop. I'd have to say that this was the best ride on The Vortex I've ever had! There was absolutely no headbanging, the airtime was aplenty, and the corkscrews were so much fun. Even as I got of the rain I heard people saying to one another "Man that was smooth!" We continued on down the Coney Mall. We decided to check out the lines at X-Base. Both Flight of Fear and Firehawk had decent waits (>15 minutes), so we decided to try out Firehawk. We waited about 10 minutes in line and strapped ourselves in the restraints. We were then asked to unbuckle ourselves and get back in line. After about 15 minutes of waiting for the ride to be repaired we left the line and headed for Flight of Fear. The line had left Firehawk and built up on Flight of Fear, giving us about a 20 minute wait. The launch on Flight of Fear felt more powerful than usual, but that's probably because of the long offseason. After we got off of FoF we headed back down Coney Mall to ride The Racer. They were only running the blue side at this time of the day (around 11:30). I waited the extra train to get a front seat ride on it. I was surprised at the amount of airtime I had, especially since I don't normally get any on it. It was pleasant to see the tunnel clear of the gum, although I think the ride needs to be repainted, particularly the turnaround right after the train leaves the station. At this time we decided to eat some lunch, so we had a couple of slices of pizza from LaRosas on International Street. We headed back to Rivertown and got 2 more rides on Diamondback. One ride was near the front and the other was near the back. Riding Diamondback near the backseat offers more ejector airtime than I had expected, and I was expecting a lot. Heck, you spend more time out of your seat than you do in it! I still say I prefer the front for the better view and the hangtime on the first hill, but the backseat is amazing for ejector air over the hills. Planet Snoopy looked so much better than Nickelodeon Universe. I didn't see a single kid frowning, but I did see a lot of kids giving the characters hugs, as well as calling the characters by name. So much for the "Kids have no idea who Snoopy is" crap. We ended the day with a trip up the Eiffel Tower and a stop at one of the gift shops. RIDE STATS Diamondback - x3 Beast - x1 Vortex - x1 Flight of Fear - x1 Blue Racer - x1 We started riding around 10 and stopped around 1:30. 7 rides in 3 and a half hours (plus lunch) should give you the idea that most were walkons.

I'd like to either see SOB removed or fixed. If it gets removed, I think we could possibly see something new in the area for 2012 or 2013. I could see a new GCI woodie, since Cedar Fair seems to be really fond of those lately. I could also see a new B&M floorless or B&M inverted, but that's not quite as likely. I wouldn't mind seeing more B&M in the park though, especially in Action Zone. As you can see, what happens within the next few years is GREATLY affected by what happens to SOB. If SOB is fixed, then I could see an expansion of X Base. If it is removed, then I could see them doing something with SOB's area.

I voted for Planet Snoopy. It's true that last year the paint of NU was faded and the paint in Planet Snoopy will eventually fade, the look of Planet Snoopy is a lot better. Instead of just using orange and yellow, there are tons of colors. I like the way the Woodstock Express looks, and I love the look of the area. It will still win the award for best children's area... without a doubt.

People OUTSIDE KI Say The Darnedest Things
Pillsberry123 replied to IndyGuy4KI's topic in Kings Island
Basically every post on that FB page (except for the people who tired correcting) is an EPIC FAIL. "OH NOOOZZZ DEY ARE TEARDING DEM DOWN???" "Dey shuld make Son of Beast a Steel coaster" "i love the son of the best! don t destory it!" and my favorite "Isn't Vortex Sinking" "Yep, that's what I heard" "Same Here" -
You might be a King's Island addict if you post on KICentral in the middle of computer class... hey wait a minute!

Beast1979's Opening Day Photo Trip Report
Pillsberry123 replied to Beast1979's topic in Trip Reports
Amazing trip report! I think we can officially say that Planet Snoopy looks better than Nickelodeon Universe, at least in my opinion. Everything's so colorful, bright, and vibrant. Plus, all the kids seemed to love it. Kids don't care which company owns what, as long as there are furry characters they have a good time. Woodstock Express looks better than it has for years. -
I tried fitting in time to go down and ride Diamondback and Beast a couple of times, but I never fit in the time for the long drive. Looks like it will have to wait until next week.
-
I will wait a maximum of an hour. And that's if it's my favorite ride. If the waits any longer on anything, count me out.

In my own humble opinion: When Paramount owned it, the park expanded in a lot of ways. But fact is, it wasn't run half as well as it is now. The employees are quicker at dispatching trains, the paths are A LOT cleaner, and we've had more world class rides added with the added help of Cedar Fair. When you look at the job Cedar Fair's done so far, it's impossible to say that they've done a bad job. In fact, they've had to deal with handicap after handicap. The main one is obviously the big hunk of wood sitting to the far left of the park map. It's caused nothing but problems for the company and I don't feel bad that they want to remove it. It's caused problems since the park first opened (even when it opened it was said that the structure wasn't as good as it could have been) Plus, King's Island isn't the only park that Cedar Fair owns now. Carowinds, Kings Dominion... ect

It doesn't surprise me that the votes are 50/50 between the first row and the last row. Like with any ride, the back seat feels more intense with stronger laterals and ejector air. The front seat feels faster and has "floating airtime" which I prefer to ejector. All in all I think I prefer the front.
