  1. If i'm not mistaken, havent they had the better part of 2 years to redesign and reconfigure? Yes, but this isn't a flat ride we're talking about. We are talking about the world's only wooden hypercoaster here, and a massive one at that. At the same time, it has had problems since day -100 (since it was under construction!). And if the refit fails to solve problems, then SoB would still be torn down and the re-fit money wasted. They have to think long and hard about this. As far as I know, it could become Son of Beast Forever. And yes, a refit would probably not make SoB ready until 2013. Remember how long it took to turn Texas Giant into a hybrid?
  2. ?niaga txet sdrawkcab gnisu ew era yhW ¿ʇxǝʇ uʍop ǝpısdn ƃuıop ǝʍ ǝɹɐ 'ʇxǝu Maybe one of the announcements is the resurrection of the Recar! Anyway, let's get back to the topic on hand. Here are my theories about the 2012 answer. 1. Three new dinosaurs. That's it. Sorry for such a lame addition, but considering the way CP has been treated... 2. Three new Boomerang Bay attractions. The three "?" balloons are a watery color (well, water given the reflection from the sky, so it may be that. The main park gets nothing new. 3. Three letters. S. O. B. A refit would take place. Perhaps a GCI/GG refit, a Texas Giant refit, replacing the second hill and Rose Bowl with a series of El Toro-like hills... 4. Dino Expansion, Boomerang Bay addition, and SOB refit put together. I can't expect anything more. From what I know, land has not been cleared for any flat ride, let alone a roller coaster. Boomerang Bay could be renamed Soak City, with the addition being a new, large wave pool (that's a Screamscape rumor, though). I was raised on Cedar Point, dating back to Mill Race and Sky Slide, so I am more attached to it. I feel that to give anything more to KI than these things would be unfair to CP (which, BTW, has removed more attractions than it has added as of recently ).
  3. I do believe it is possible that KI will get nothing new for 2012, despite the 40th anniversary. SoB will still be SBNO, and the only things that do involve the anniversary will be shows and ceremonies. Perhaps some park improvements would be in the works. Why do I believe this? Look at Cedar Point. In 2 years, they get the same stuff KI got in one year. And they have removed more rides/attractions (Demon Drop, Chaos, Paddlewheel Excursions) than they have added (WindSeeker, Dinosaurs Alive) as of now and next year. This doesn't include the Soak City area. I haven't been there since 2007 (when Maverick opened), and I have no plans to go next year. Don't get your hopes up for Kings Island. All they might do is change the name of Boomerang Bay to Soak City. You may be better off going to Canada.
  4. You might have to add Dinosaurs Alive to that. A good flat ride would be something that would be unique or at least very few exist. I don't know what kind of flat would be a good addition at this time. I would support a Topple Tower over the construction of a Screamin' Swing...but right now the country's only Topple Tower seems more similar to Son of Beast right now than an inverted frisbee. Oh, and I rode that said tower, and I liked it, but I don't think it's as intense as Delirium/Maxair.
  5. I didn't even keep my cellphone in my pocket while there. I left in a locker because I was worried it would fly out of my pocket. I didn't use the bins by the rides because I would have probably forgotten to pick it up after the ride. Never mind actually using it on the coaster. I didn't want my phone to end up in the Diamondback bin! Still, texting on the lift hill? Seriously, why? Is it so important to respond to a text that you can't wait a few minutes for the ride to be done before replying??? If you don't respond, will your girlfriend dump you or will you spontaneously combust or something? Sorry, but given the circumstances, I defend the operators stopping you.
  6. Honestly, that's exactly what I thought when I first read that. Who knows. I need to get up there soon and check it out. Also, there is a lot of space around SoB that could be used for development, with some areas having enough space to fit multiple Firehawks. Of course, what defines "behind SoB?" It is the world's second longest woodie (behind yours truly), after all. There are many areas that could be called behind the ride, depending on one's point of view. Anyway, the Ride Warrior Nation site has removed SoB from the deck as well as the other sites. Demolition is nigh, methinks. This is regardless of what the Screamscape people are looking at. My coaster dreams will be lost...I'll end up going to Home Depot, buying a new pitchfork, and using it to run the those who still have dreams out of town. Good riddance, dreamer! (Isn't it strange I use a Spongebob reference one year after the rights expired and things were converted to Snoopy?). BTW, why link to I305? Is this some sort of rumor that we will get an I305 here? I hope not, considering the Cedar Point has Millennium Force and I really want something more original at KI...maybe when they decide to scrap Freestyle Music Park for good, we can get something from that.
  7. Yes, I know of its reputation, its past, and its roughness. I even looked at a of SoB without the loop and compared it to . I can't really prove SoB to be the rougher of the two. Shouldn't Mean Streak be getting the injury complaints SoB has been getting? Shouldn't Mean Streak be shut down too, given that we're "not satisfied with the ride experience" of that? For that matter, if SoB w/o the loop was this problematic, then why was it even reopened in the first place back in 2007? What makes May 2009 different from August 2007?Sorry about my response. I do tend to overreact. It comes from the fact that I never had a chance to ride Son of Beast (and that the incident was reported 16 days late). It is was? is still the world's tallest and fastest wooden coaster, and to be denied the right to ride is an insult to my coaster enthusiast dreams. There may never be another wooden coaster as tall and fast as SoB, and I admit, possibly due to SoB. Prefabs, should they reach these heights, just aren't the same. It's the coaster enthusiast in me that doesn't care if the ride is as rough as Chuck Norris. BTW, I do not know the downtime the ride had during its operation without the loop (from reopening in 2007 to closing last May). It would give me a clearer picture if I had that data. BTW, the only other time I was in Kings Island (unusual, since I have lived in the Dayton area since the late nineties) was October 2007 during the first Halloween Haunt. I rode Drop Zone (Drop Tower) and Face Off (Invertigo), and from what I saw, I don't think SoB was operating then. Can you verify this?
  8. Are you saying the mist of ID makes it a better ride than the former BBW running through a themed village? Really? Sorry, but I rode BBW in 2006, the year before Griffon was built. My mind is hazy when it comes to the theming. Also, I've been to CP many times, hence my response. Still, Flight Deck doesn't live up to either the ID or the former BBW.
  9. Rule of Screamscape. Take the rumor and put a [citation needed] tag next to it. Don't consider it true without a source. My prediction is that they will announce that they will likely make the fixes to the ride, and then they will announce the following one or two days that it will be torn down. Why? Here's two glimmers of hope made of fool's gold: 1. The inspections were done and SoB was cleared as safe. Firehawk had a guy die after riding it, and it reopened the next day! So it only made sense to reopen SoB because both cases had the ride operating properly and the victims both had preexisting conditions (in SoB's case, the woman had a hemorrhagic stroke). Besides, the woman reported it 16 days after it happened! Anyway, it was the day after Firehawk reopened that the SOB remaining closed for 2009 announcement came. 2. A chance of SoB reopening in 2010. Talk was of a mid-August reopening, better than nothing. The next day, they confirmed it would not open whatsoever in 2010. THE VERY NEXT DAY! To add emphasis, they took it off the map. KI just became smaller. ------------------------------------------------------- What a way to celebrate Son of Beast's 10th anniversary! And all because SoB did...no wait, it did nothing wrong! It was operating normally and got a worse punishment than when it was responsible for injuries! And we are talking the neutered SoB here! Also, is making SoB hybrid possible? Won't it add the same kind of weight that caused the injuries when SoB had the loop? The ride was poorly designed and built with inferior wood, and the company (RCCA) not only went under, it doesn't even have a Wikipedia page! There is no reason SoB should have ever closed. We shouldn't even be discussing its fate. ------------------------------------------------------- Nevertheless, I see no hope for SoB. I will have looked twice, maybe thrice on the world's tallest and fasted wooden coaster only to never have a chance to ride it. I can never be a true Ride Warrior. And there's no way another woodie will reach its heights. Not a true woodie, anyway. I can also see Delirium being closed early this year, covered in a protective barrier, and swung with that. The pendulum will be rigged to disconnect from the base at the right time, slamming right into a good chunk of SoB. A Giant Huss Wrecking Ball! (j/k)
