  1. You may film anything you want as long as you do NOT do so on any rides. Even with a chest mount, the only ride at Cedar Point on which cameras or other electronic devices are allowed is the Cedar Point & Lake Erie Railroad.
  2. I've asked it before, I'll ask it again: Why is everyone so hell-bent on tearing down a popular, high-capacity, reliable ride such as Vortex that's been a park staple for nearly three decades when the park has acres upon acres of undeveloped land on which they could build new rides without demolishing old ones?
  3. Or, leave Vortex standing and build a Mack or Gerstlauer looper in any of the numerous acres of land owned by the park that have not yet been used. Why does everyone want to tear down a popular, reliable, high capacity ride that's been a park staple for over 25 years?
  4. At least you can still ride it if you are willing to drive to Virginia. Think about how the Big Dipper fans must feel :\
  5. Wow. That's a lot of food. Pre-meal plan, I would normally get chips and queso and that would be a meal for me. If I can get that AND a burrito, then I think I may gain weight this summer...
  6. You also have the old pad and queue area from Flight Commander completely intact, minus the rails in the queue.
  7. Speaking of Hank's, what do you get with the dining plan at that particular location? Hopefully the season has been going on long enough that someone can answer.
  8. And, ironically, with the exception of Exterminator, most spinning mice are very tame by comparison. And, at least around Ohio, many people I know try to judge the merits of Wild Mouse coasters by their WildCat experience. WildCat was not really a wild mouse coaster, at least not a traditional one. A traditional Wild Mouse coaster (IE: unbanked hairpin turns with a couple of sudden drops thrown in) can be a ridiculous amount of fun. I've only ridden one (non-spinning) wild mouse and that was Ricochet at Carowinds. That coaster is a blast, and I'd love to have one at Kings Island. I'd take a spinning mouse if it was as good as Exterminator, but being as good as Exterminator is a tall order. And coincidentally, there I go again bringing up attractions at what I consider to be the finest theme park east of the Mississippi (though Terp may disagree with me)
  9. I think Kings Island has one of the most solid coaster lineups in the world. I would even argue that we have a better lineup than Cedar Point (I really, truly do not understand the hype around that park). I think that the focus should be on other areas for a while. I would love some more flats. I can't even tell you how much I'd love a Musik Express, a new Bayern Kurve, a (good) dark ride, or an S&S Screamin' Swing. As it stands, I can think of a park just a few hours to the east of Kings Island that has all of these things, and wouldn't you know it, it happens to be my favorite park ever despite a significantly smaller coaster lineup. I'll admit that I'm a shameless coaster credit collector. Just yesterday, I drove clear to Columbus specifically to ride Sea Dragon and increase my count by one. I'll be the first to say that coasters are nice and really help draw people in. But as has been said, there is more to an amusement park than the coasters. Let people come for the coasters, but make them want to stay for everything else the park has to offer.
  10. Since my post has already been up a while, read by some, and liked, I'm gonna go ahead and double post just so this doesn't get missed. I posted a trip report from my trip on July 27th of last year, if anyone is interested. I have lots of pictures, too. Can't wait to return with my DSLR to photograph this beautiful park! http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php/topic/27887-kennywood-72713-ptr/
  11. What, to someone, may seem like a high price for a fancy collectible may, to someone else, be a worthwhile investment. My family did not understand why I paid $40 for a 1972 Kings Island souvenir map, while I think it was a steal and love owning it. I don't understand why my sister buys so many shoes when two pairs of shoes (one pair of tennis shoes, one pair of dress shoes) are more than sufficient for me. Different strokes for different folks.
  12. I love Kennywood. I mean, I REALLY love Kennywood. More than I love Kings Island, Stricker's Grove, Holiday World, and Carowinds. Combined. Besides the blasphemous Garfield ride, I literally cannot find a single thing about that park that I don't absolutely LOVE. They have my favorite non-inverting steel coaster ever in Phantom's Revenge (Sorry, Maggie...). They have my favorite launched coaster ever in Sky Rocket (which I contend has TWO inversions, contrary to RCDB. That's an overbank, not a cutback. But I digress...). They have my first and second favorite dark rides with Noah's Ark (can I really call it a ride?) and Exterminator. The atmosphere is nothing short of mind-blowing. Their wooden coasters are unique, historically significant, and give you a taste of coaster design in a bygone era. Their river rapids ride is BY FAR the best I've EVER seen, and I love White Water Canyon, so that's a tall order. They have awesome flats, large and small: Kangaroo, the Turtles (AKA Tumble Bug), The Whip, Swing Shot, Black Widow, Musik Express, Bayern Kurve, and Bumper Cars with no center divider. I love this park. After going there last year, a trip to Kennywood has become a yearly tradition and I look forward to my return trip this summer (it helps that I know a guy in Pittsburgh and have a place to stay the night for free). It feels like a small park, but has the ride selection of a big park. In my opinion, Kennywood is THE perfect theme park. It has a wonderful balance of thrills and atmosphere. I really, really cannot recommend this park enough. If anyone on here has never been to Kennywood, get up and go as soon as you can. I literally think that ANYONE could enjoy this place, from the smallest toddlers, to your great-great grandmother. I could go on and on and on with my praise, but I'll spare you the earful because nothing I could say can do this park justice. Oh, also, Potato Patch
  13. The Train is currently running with only three cars (excluding the engine). I remember it having more. Is this normal for this part of the season?
  14. I rode The Voyage in 2013 for the first time, and I thought it was much smoother than The Legend. But I loved all of their coasters. I recommend the trip. There's only so much that text and video on a web page can tell you about a roller coaster.
  15. I do try to follow the even numbers rule, as I agree that it's no fun leaving an odd man out. Plus, if we made a habit of leaving the odd man out, most of the male users of this site (myself included) would never get to ride anything.
  16. If you share pizza purchased on one of the dining plans, you kinda are taking money from their pockets, as you purchased an agreement that entitles you to free food as long as you follow certain conditions. If you purchase the pizza individually, then you literally purchased the food itself, and you are free to share it. Obviously, the park would love it if everyone bought their own individually, but you do not have to. Basically, the dining plans, Fast Lane passes, etc are a non-transferrable service and are subject to certain conditions, but a direct purchase of food is a good and the food becomes your property with which to do anything you want once you pay for it.
  17. I kinda like the idea of pronouncing it as "hashtag Jonathan" actually. Now, I will have to explain to everyone I know that the noodle was NOT, in fact, named after me...
  18. I keep ride counts for one reason and one reason only... Any excuse to make a fancy spreadsheet is A-OK in my book!
  19. Yes, it is. The owner of the CD has the right to rip the tracks for their own personal use, and that's it. Making copies of the ripped music to share with others, or letting someone else rip their own copy off of your own CD, is theft of intellectual property, also known as copyright infringement. Not to mention, because people do the latter, companies have, at times, implemented Draconian copy-protection schemes that often prevent the actual owner of the material from doing the former. This is another topic entirely, though, and I won't get into it in detail. Suffice it to say that I despise DRM, as it does little to stop the wrongdoers and in many cases, dramatically worsens the experience for the paying customer. Thankfully the music industry has realized this and has largely backed off. I can only hope Hollywood follows suit, but I am not holding my breath...
  20. I want a horn that plays the first few notes of La Cucaracha.
  21. Even though we don't even remotely have the terrain to suit it, my completely unrealistic fantasy version of Kings Island would have Phantom's Revenge or Magnum XL-200 instead of Diamondback. Or heck, even in addition to Diamondback. Not like it matters much, because if I had either of those, I can assure you, I'd forget Diamondback is even there
  22. Again, my answer is based on last season and not this year, but in the past, I've seen the $12 parking price used on weekends and holidays while parking was $10 on other days. Perhaps this year, it has been moved to $15 and $12, respectively.
  23. I like going alone well enough but I like going in groups, too. When I'm alone, I tend to spend more time just walking around the park and taking in the atmosphere. When I'm with a group, those are typically my big "ride ALL the things" kind of days.
  24. I think that for celebration, this calls for a Snickers bar and a bowl of delicious Kraft Macaroni and Cheese.
  25. 2 hours. Waited until around 7:30 PM to get in line. We got off by 9:40 and were able to get our stuff from my locker minutes before the rental expired and head to The Beast. We got in line for The Beast at 9:59 and were able to enjoy the last train of the night. I don't compromise my night rides. I get night rides on both Beast and Banshee because that's how I roll.
