We have that. It's called Vortex. Now I have to wonder, IF what we got were to end up being a nice loopy B&M Invert, would that spell the inevitable doom for my beloved Vortex, or would it still have "its place" in the coaster lineup?
-
This might be linguistic enthusiast nitpicking, but once you put in an inversion, doesn't it cease to be a giga coaster? That tends to be the rule of thumb with hypers/megas, so I assume it applies to gigas too.

I was able to use my 2011 KI cup at Carowinds in 2012. Of course, both the 2011 KI cups and the 2012 Carowinds cups were light blue WindSeeker cups, so that may have played a part.

Well, the ride immediately adjacent to what he referred to as "The Beast" is around 20 years old. In fact, both of them are.

Sundays aren't too bad, especially in the evenings. Weekdays are much, much better, but they aren't always possible for everyone. If you can make it on a weekday without too much inconvenience, I'd HIGHLY recommend that over weekends any time.

Ultimately, we decided on a 3 night, 2 day stay at Breakers. I'll be spending 2 days in the park and my dad is going on a fishing Charter on Lake Erie the second day. Also, if any KICers will be at CP on Tuesday, May 14th, I have no riding buddy (which is fine, I spent a day alone at Carowinds last summer and LOVED it).

You still get the link in your post, try to just blot it out. Thanks again. I just de-linked it.

Good calls terp and Faeriewench. Taken care of. And additionally, I hope I'm wrong and FUN Perks is still happening. It was very helpful in helping me afford my annual Halloween Haunt Fast Lane last season.

I just got this in my email and I was wondering what you guys thought. It seems to me that this is the end for FUN Perks. How do you guys read into it? Quoted from the email: Dear Valued Customer, We hope you are looking forward to all of the fun and excitement that is in store for the 2013 season at Kings Island. Opening day is just one week away - Saturday, April 27! As we prepare for the 2013 season, we are always looking for ways to improve the experience for our guests and provide more value, especially for our most loyal guests - our season passholders. One such way was the FUN Perks program introduced last year. We were pleased with the participation, but after a lengthy and thorough evaluation of the program, we are working on other ways to provide more value for our season passholders in the upcoming season. As a thank you for your participation and support, please Click Here for an exclusive coupon that allows you to bring a friend to Kings Island during any public operating day thru May 27 for just $9.99 or from May 28 through September 2 for just $19.99. You must present your 2013 season pass along with the coupon to receive this exclusive offer. We look forward to seeing you at the park this summer! Sincerely, Greg Scheid Vice President & General Manager Kings Island

I personally would like to see more Arrow. Obviously, that won't happen. So instead, I want a GCI, or an Intamin woodie. I like woodies, and I DON'T acknowledge Rocky Mountain Coasters as being wooden. So basically, we lost a mediocre-bad woodie (depending on who you ask) and I would like it replaced with a great woodie.

Diamondback is a rather spiffy little ride, I suppose. But that Vortex... She is some coaster, let me tell you. There's nothing else quite the same anywhere else.

I will have to look into that Jr for Birdy, my dad was going to go with me and if I upgraded, he'd have to wait while I get my early rides. He said he was fine with that, but if we can get in early with a hotel ticket deal, all the better. That said, we're weighing all the options, including upgrade the pass and stay at a cheap hotel, which could also save me money in the end, as without having looked at prices, I'm assumming the "official" Cedar Point hotels cost a fair bit more than, say, a Comfort Inn would.
-
I am planning a two-day trip to Cedar Point, and have realized that it would be about the same price if I upgrade my Gold Pass to a Platinum pass and get the parking for free, as well as Early rides. My question is, what is the actual procedure to upgrade your pass? Can you still do this? I got my pass during the fall sale, so it was only $80. I'm guessing that I would pay what a platinum costs now, minus the $80 I paid. Is this true? Thanks in advance for anything you are able to answer for me

Now, I'm not asking you guys to predict crowds on a particular day, as I know it's impossible. I know the general guidelines, namely that weekdays tend to be less crowded, and that weather plays a big part in crowds, and that May tends to be better than July. What I'm asking is whether or not days with very light crowds are an actual thing that happens at Cedar Point at all. I've heard from many people that Cedar Point is always much more crowded than KI, and yet, their yearly attendance figures seem to be right on par with KI's in years they've released them, with a season that is only a hair shorter. This leads me to assume that from time to time, there will be days when most rides have waits of 30 minutes or less. I'm planning on going to Cedar Point this summer, and I want to ride everything. I REALLY don't want to buy Fast Lane, especially now that they've made Fast Lane Plus (It's not the money so much as it is principle. The capitalist in me won't allow me to buy something I'm so very opposed to). I plan to pick a day, set aside money for Fast Lane, and buy it if I determine it to be necessary. Also, for the cost of a Fast Lane plus, I could almost upgrade my Gold Pass to a Platinum and stay two or even three days. If I'm anticipating crowds, would this be a better option, seeing as I get ERT, and depending on the day I go, possibly even after-hours rides? I do appreciate everyone's help

You could speed up the lift hill to marginally speed up a coaster. The effect wouldn't be too noticable though.

Oh lord, what have I done...

No, Vortex is a classy lady. And yes, this is all in fun. But I will always choo-choo-choose my Vortex.
-
Maybe this would go better in polls? I'm not sure, but I feel like it fits better here. If amusement rides were people, would YOU ask one of them to be your valentine? For me personally, Vortex is my one and only true love. Every time she takes me into her care, she finds a new way to STEEL my heart. It can be a violent relationship at times, but something about her just turns me head over heels every time our paths cross, and when I crest her hills, she always finds a way to make the butterflies run free in my stomach. Stay classy, Vortex. I'll see you again in May, and we can catch up on all the offseason goings-on. ...And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why my friends think I'm weird.

You wouldn't find anyone smoking there. Nobody pays attention to the designated Smoking areas.

I believe the pond was removed when Vortex was installed.

I found it on ebay, after the auction was posted in a thread on this forum about ebay items. On another note, despite having owned the album for around a month, I just realized that the last song, "On the Beautiful Blue Danube" is, in fact, the same piece played by the carousels in the original Roller Coaster Tycoon.

For your listening pleasure, I have uploaded some videos that I made with the music from a vinyl record featuring Kings Island's very own Wurlitzer #157 Carousel Organ. You may recognize this as the organ that currently sits (but does not operate) upon the Grand Carousel near the Eiffel Tower. As of writing this, the videos are not quite uploaded yet, so you may have to wait 15-20 minutes before they will become available. But at any rate, you may find the videos here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0qkj4F8fnLE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGO7D9rNPcc

Let me be the first to say, as someone who loves RPW, the one time I ate at Coney Potato Works, I enjoyed it a lot better. Then again, I really like Coney Mall as an area and find it more enjoyable a place to sit and relax.

My question for Don would have to be this: How often (if ever) do you get to walk around Kings Island in the winter, and what's it like seeing the park covered in snow?
