A world breaking coaster. Oh my, I knew some people didn't like Vortex, but I had no idea that it could... wow.
-
Myself included. I'm hoping nobody though I was serious. Nobody who is being serious should EVER use the conspiracy Keanu meme. But that's just my opinion.
-
Well, to be fair, if I'm using that cash, it means that I've just lost my debit card, and I have bigger concerns than the cleanliness of my money
-
I used to bring a lot, but these days, I usually bring a debit card, my phone, and a small travel-sized tube of sunscreen. These stay in velcro pockets (which don't stay shut too well, so I usually reinforce it with safety pins). I typically bring a $20 bill, which goes in my shoe, in case somehow I lose these things. Oh, and a souvenir cup as long as I don't plan on riding Firehawk that day. My car keys also come with me, attached to my belt loop with a carabiner clip.

The news has already reported it as world record breaking....not park record breaking. I'm not sure if we're on the same page. The coaster would increase some statistic for the park as a whole, and in doing so, the park would claim a world record. The record, however would be a record for "Most x in one park" rather than "Most x on one coaster", if that makes any more sense. I'm not getting at this ride having the most inverted track at KI, I'm talking more about this ride increasing the amount of inverted track among ALL KI rides to an amount that gives Kings Island the world record. If that makes more sense. Edit: Darn jcgoble3...
-
Take that with a grain of salt... Son of Beast IS on them after all...
-
I don't see 218 feet to be honest. I'm really leaning more toward the inversion record than height. Although, as someone pointed out many, many pages ago, this may not be a record that the coaster itself gets. We may end up taking a record for the park as a whole, such as the record for most inverted/suspended track in one park (as we once had a record for most wooden track in one park. Maybe we still do, I'm not sure...). Anyone have any idea where that record currently is? I'd bet it isn't a particularly well-documented one. We currently have 4,487 feet of suspended/inverted track. So currently, there are individual coasters that have more. But this one could actually double KI's current inverted-track length. Take out Flight Deck (as it is suspended rather than inverted), and it almost certainly will.

Pretty cool "shout out" and mention by the park, and it's good to see the park and this site are in good standing It seems to me that despite the incident, KIC's relationship with the park is stronger than ever! I don't recall getting this many shoutouts ever before.

A couple favorites from the same person in line today, while waiting for WindSeeker: "Cedar Point's WindSeeker is better. It's SO much taller." followed by: "They're building a wooden replica of Millennium Force where Son of Beast was. I can't wait to ride it" I'm proud of myself, I kept my mouth shut. No need for me to crush their hopes and dreams now. Don will do that in just 7 days' time.

But if it broke the "Highest inversion on a wing coaster" record, it would actually take a REAL record with it, lol
-
Tell me about it... I have Jury Duty tomorrow as well, and likely won't get the midday check-in that I normally get in my lunch break...
-
I would have expected you to vote for White Water Canyon.Eiffel Tower? Does Eiffel Tower have a logo? I'll have to look when I'm at KI later.
-
Correct me if I'm wrong, but is a dive loop essentially equivalent to half of Vortex's batwing, or am I thinking of a different element?
-
Here are the world records that I see being within the realm of possibility: If it is an invert: Tallest full-circuit Invert (Minimum requirement 196' to beat Alpengeist) Tallest Invert (Minimum requirement 216' to beat out Wicked Twister. Less likely, but possible, I suppose) Most Inversions on an inverted coaster (Would need 8 to beat out Montu) If it is a giga: Tallest Non-launched coaster in the world (would need 319' to beat out Steel Dragon 2000) Longest coaster in the world (Would need to be 8,133' long to beat Steel Dragon 2000. I don't see this being incredibly plausible) And the most likely record of all, in either situation: Most butthurt Intamin fanboys complaining about one coaster (I think we're nearly there already and it isn't even built yet) But seriously, It could even take multiple. If it were to be 216' tall, I could easily see 8 inversions. Perhaps even a new tallest vertical loop or tallest inversion overall, but that one seems less likely. It would practically have to crest the hill and head straight into a Jo-Jo roll (I'm not sure if an invert could even do that maneuver...)

There is nothing wrong with the wheels on Vortex. They are changed on a as needed basis. Didn't a wheel get changed during KIC day? I was on Flight of Fear with jcgoble3 while everyone else was in line for Vortex. If I remember correctly, someone told me that Vortex got held up due to a wheel being replaced.

Firehawk's lift is probably my favorite sound. It was, after all, the last thing I ever heard before it cost me 99% of my hearing...
-
If KI had a my little pony coaster, I would shred my gold pass and never return. I'd rather deal with a park full of "zomg, liek, Vortex is totally sinking guyz" crowds than bronies...

Cedar Fair has had a Blue Streak for nearly 50 years. Homestar92, who simply HAD to

B&M actually has at least one coaster in my top 10. Intamin does not. So, given those choices, B&M. But I'd happily take an Arrow or a woodie over either of them any day.
-
Yeah, Space Mountain isn't Arrow. The newer ones are Vekoma though. I do agree that Magnum has some great airtime. The Space Mountain in Orlando is most definitely Arrow. Or at least, it was when I rode it in 2004. I know it's been renovated since then, but I'm pretty sure they didn't touch the track. http://rcdb.com/267.htm Show me some proof. I don't doubt you as a lot of early Disney rides were Arrow such as Matterhorn. But I've never seen anything that said Space Mountain was. http://www.ultimaterollercoaster.com/coasters/spacemountain_disneyw I've always considered ultimaterollercoaster to be reliable. Wikipedia also says that it's Arrow, but not everyone likes to trust Wikipedia. Now, the later ones are Vekoma, as are newer Big Thunder Mountain Railroad installations. Which admittedly, can be confusing when referring to a particular installation. EDIT: It would appear that I also got beat. Twice. Lol.

I'll be honest, you probably won't miss much if you aren't in KI Club. This site will undoubtedly explode the nanosecond something is revealed.

Well, different strokes for different folks, I suppose. I like my Arrows. I like the Intamins I've ridden. I like MOST of the B&Ms I've ridden. I really like B&M Inverts, in fact they're my all-time favorite model of steel coaster. It is not my fanhood of B&M Inverts that indicates to me that it is the most probable candidate. It is evidence in the footers and logic in the good relationship between B&M and Cedar Fair. If this were Six Flags' Kings Island (sorry, just had an aneurysm thinking about that...) then I'd say it's gonna be an Intamin. But being that KI is a Cedar Fair property for the foreseeable future, there ain't no way it's anything BUT a B&M.

B&m is the Arrow Dynamics of today. They make outdated forceless rides and their hyper/giga coasters only have a little floater air. Intamin leads the pack in innovations. They try new things with their rides, new elements, take chances, strong ejector air. They are the present and the future of the industry. That's cute how you think Arrows are forceless. Have you ever actually ridden Vortex, Magnum, or Adventure Express? I think you'd be hard-pressed to find a non-enthusiast that thinks any of those rides are forceless. And being the fan of ejector airtime that you are, I don't see why you like Millennium Force so much more than Magnum. Of the 54 coasters I've ridden, Magnum is the one that I feel has the most "ejector" airtime of all of them. And that 54 includes a decent number of Arrows, B&Ms, Intamins, Vekomas, and even a Schmeck or two. In fact, the only Arrows I've EVER ridden that I would truly call "forceless" are Iron Dragon and Space Mountain.
