You can't always believe what you hear. But rumors have been going around for a few years now, that we could see Congo Falls being removed. I really have no idea if it is or not. But I would be very upset if Vortex is to be removed.

Happy Days Diner Debut Video
PKIVortex replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
Yes I do like The Vortex alot. My first ride was in 1987 and I was only 7 years old. I will never forget that ride. But that is not the reason I said I liked how he went to a view of it going thru the boomarang. I just thought it was interesting, and it was a nice way of doing it. -
Actually you are correct. The flying dutchman was indeed removed to make way for Adventure Express. It was located about where the exit to Adventure Express is. If you look thru you the beginning of the line and the exit you can see where some old rails used to be, by the holes in the concerete. I'm not sure what he was trying to prove from those maps, but those maps were pretty old. I know I didn't start going to KI until 1987 and King Cobra opened in 1984 and I indeed rode the Flying Dutchman. We used to call them the shoes.
-
Well PKI was kinda strict on the capacity of the ride. The way the cars were, each car had two seats, right behind each other. It's kinda hard to explain cause each seat were in separate sections of the car, but it was really only one car. I remember the speil from Skylab from this day. Please sit 2 per seat and 4 per car. I know as well they are smaller type rides which each car is smaller. Huss has proper names for these rides. Skylab looks like this. And a standered enterprise looks like this. But the ride itself is the same.

Happy Days Diner Debut Video
PKIVortex replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
The video was cool. I really liked the part where you started playing the Happy Days theme song, and then you cut to a view of The Vortex going thru the lat part of the boomarang. Great Job! -
I went the pki.com, but that video that normally plays isnt playing. Its not even showing as a video, just as a pic link. Well as of Tuesday May 17th at 12:35pm. I just went to pki.com and indeed I just watched all of the commericals again. It does take about 30 seconds or so for the first one to start playing, and that's on cable. So your connection may inpact how long the video's take to load. Also if you go to paramountparks.com it has a few general paramount parks commericals.

I don't remember if Cedar Point has the same model as the skylab or not. If it's the one that has the bigger cars, which hold 4 passeners per car, 2 per seat. Then more then likey it's the same experience. I do remember the PKI one did not always go all the way up to the full height at times. But I really enjoyed the skylab I was very bumed when it was removed. I also miss the Flight Commander.
-
You can view this commercial along with all the others at pki.com. Just let the homepage completly load, and they will come up. It's in the middle of screen where at first they are advertising IJST. This commerical will evently play after a few others. The first one is also a new IJST one.

I think you may be surprized how much of the wood is still original. I can't find the picture but I know there was one a couple years back that showed the moss that is growing on the wood from when there used to be a pond by Beast's lift hill. But agree with you that especially in the places where strong forces occur all the wood will have been replaced sometime or another. Yeah I see what your saying. I guess some of the wood could be original. Some of the supports and such.

Italian Job! What area does PKI consider the ride in? Rivertown or Old Coney? Sorry my PKI Associate terms are sneaking in. We used to call Coney Mall, Old Coney alot.
-
I would have to say it's a tie between Action Zone and Coney Mall. Action Zone has alot of the thrill rides we love. But Coney has the old feel amusment park feeling to it.
-
I only remember Smurfs, and of course PT and SD. I do not remember the orgianal ride. Even though I think it would have been cool, to have a mixture of HB cartoons thru out. So other site I beleive History of PKI had a poster post all the words to the orgianal enchanted voyage.
-
only time will tell. What is the oldest operating wooden coaster in the world? Is it one of the wooden coaster's at Kennywood? But Like I have said before, a wooden coaster is rebulit many times thru out it's lifetime. I'm sure they are not many if any at all orgianal wood on The Beast or Racer.
-
^ Thank you!!! The Beast isn't going anywhere anytime soon. I mean sure one day it probably will be removed, but i'm sure it won't be for a very very long time.

New WOF TimberWolf warning sign
PKIVortex replied to CoastersNSich's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Even though we all the ride rating system, I think it would be a good idea to put a sign at least on SOB. I agree with the person who said the same rating on another ride doesn't mean it's going to be the same ride experience. -
^ I have to agree with you 100 percent on this. I've been visiting Kings Island for a very long time. 1987 was the first year I went. And starting in 1988 I had season passes. I also worked for the park for 3 summers, '99 thru '01. So yes a little burn out does happen, and the rides are not the same to me as they were the first time I rode them. So just think what someone thinks how someone feels after the very first time on The Beast or any other ride in the park. I don't beleive any of PKI's rides are over rated.
-
As you can see, most of the replies are defending The Beast and Racer and why PKI would not remove them.
-
Well The Beast hasn't been the best wooden coaster for the last 26 years for nothing. Even if another park would bulid a longer wooden coaster then The Beast, just think no one has bulit a longer wooden coaster in 26 years so that says something for The Beast IMHO.
-
LOL where do you people come up with these ideas. I don't ever see PKI removing The Racer. It was one of the first coasters to open at PKI in 1972. And even though it opened in 1972 can you imangine how many times that ride has probably has been rebuilt. I doubt any piece of wood on that ride is still from 1972. I beleive The Racer will be around for many many years to come.
-
Yeah it sure did come back. It re-opened in like June of 1993. I remember watching them putting it back together. The ride was removed for good after the 1997 season. I beleive they did have cars there as well during 1992 with the 20th anniversary stuff.
-
Skylab was removed to do prolonged problems. Remember Skylab was completly removed at the end of the '91 season and I heard shipped over seas to be repaired. The area where Skylab was used in '92 for some old newpaper clipings for the 20th anniversary. The Skylab reopened in the summer of '93. Skylab then closed again during the '97 season and was SBNO for the remainder of the '97 season and was complety removed before the start of the '98 season. I believe most the probelms with the ride was with the arm that held the ride up while it rotated. I do know that the arm failed during the '91 season and the ride fall back towards the ground. I don't beleive anyone was seriously hurt. I think the same thing happened in the '97 season as well.

I miss King Cobra. It's clone is still around though at PCW. Shockwave isn't an exact clone at PKD. But at least I can say that i've rode all 3 Togo standup's in North America.
-
Cool pics. I had the pleasure of going to PCW back in August in 2003, and I enjoyed the park. Wish it was closer, would love to go back.
-
Good hints, but i'm driving myself crazy. I even looked to see if the numbers of the rides matched what ride there were on the map. Hmmm. Whatever it is it's not easy to spot.

The park map is not very clear on PKI.com I went and looked and couldn't find any error. But Let me look again. Is the error on the PKI park map on the website?
