  1. Ever since I rode Renegade last summer (the only GCI that I've knowingly ridden to date) I've wanted something similar at KI. For even longer, I've felt like KI needed another "transition" coaster, something for the newest riders to enjoy that wouldn't scare them off with a bunch of loops or extreme heights. I've read on here (accuratly???) that the height requirement will be 48". My only hope was that it would be 46" to help that transition a bit more, but I don't know the Ohio rules and how those heights are determined. At any rate, they just about nailed 2 of my wishes with one stone. I'm really excited to ride this, I think it will be a ton of fun, in a great spot.
  2. tearing down the box would open a fairly big space that could be access from near The Beast. It would also open up views of the floated lift hill layout from that area that the Big Box would likely hide from that angle.
  3. Spoiler alert!!! But Tom Hanks ends up small in the end.
  4. I have read every page of this thread (though sometimes glancing my way thru multiple posts debating the worthiness of one poster/idea vs another). You can bet your bottom dollar that someone involved with KI has as well. If someone is spilling the beans without the parks consent, they'll want to find out who. They would be stupid not to monitor both the thread and the forums in general.
  5. I agree, I don't care for the name a bit, just feels cheesy. At the end of the day, all that I'll really care about is the ride experience, the name will grow on me no matter what it is. Also note, while this may well be the name, I'm not going to put it past Don to put this out there to throw us off. Obviously he reads this board, occasionally posts, so he's well aware that Splintercat has been speculated here. It was roughly this time (in relation to the announcment) when pictures of a winged coaster called The Bat popped up on a KI website that "accidentally" was leaked. If there was a Splintercat trade mark, then I'd feel confident, for now I'm not so sure.
  6. From things I've read: Drop Zone could be an issue (I think the problem lies in the chest area) Banshee has a row in the middle (4 I believe, perhaps 4 & 5) for bigger guests. Not sure if Diamondback is the same, that one depends on the thighs. Diamondback has a test seat out front to try. Adventure Express is accommodating. Racer and The Beast are fairly accommodating, a lot of it depends on where the weight is and if they can get the bar down. If you can fit on one, I'd assume you can fit on the other, they feel the same to me, but I could be wrong. Its always felt like the Stunt Coaster has plenty of room. Same with The Bat, Vortex and Flight of Fear. Not sure on Invertigo, its been years since I've been on it, same with Firehawk. Good luck, have fun there is still plenty to do.
  7. Agree with the above statement. After making it to the park, roughly once a week last year, most every week, I've only been 3 times. With the new son tagging along, I figured I'd get plenty of trips on the train this season while mamma made up for missing out on rides last season while pregnant with our oldest. I haven't been on the train once this season, magenta lizard has helped me feel like I've had a front row seat thru this whole process. For that I owe a huge thank you.
  8. using Tower Gardens for something other than a smoking den may well be the best thing I see all day. Thanks for sharing.
  9. a ride doesn't have to be over 100' to be great. GCI has several coasters that are just over or under the 100 foot mark. The only one I've ridden was roughly 95 feet (Renegade) and it was awesome. Gravity Group also has several coasters in the 100 foot or less department that get rave(n) reviews.
  10. ^^^ not really. Beastie is probably half that size both in length and height. Though I do agree it will be a little bigger/longer than that Height: 98 feet (if w/ traditional chain lift) 64 feet (if launched) Length: 3,214 feet Speed: 52 MPH (if traditional chain lift) 64 MPH (if launched) Duration: 2:12
  11. Hmmm odd. It's too bad that Cedar Points most popular coasters are Intamin. I mean they only make the best coasters on earth. I mean Maverick does not have any downtime. Did they need to replace a piece of track sure. But after that.......nothing. MForce never down. Then there is TTD, Yes it is down sometimes but that thing is a MONSTER. I would assume it would be down with how big that thing is and how much power it pushes out. I understand you like your cookie cutter b&m's ......o well. One day Cedar Fair will learn and use Intamin again when people start getting bored with cookie cutters......Moving on after my rant. lol So how about renovating drop zone with seats like Falcon's Fury at Busch Gardens Tampa haha Maverick has frequent break downs, almost daily. It recently stalled in the middle of the course causing the ride to be evacuated. MF has had several long downtime sections due to the elevator lift. TTD in addition to breaking down daily, has had a cable explode and cut people's faces, had the theming fall off while the ride was running, and struggles to run all 6 trains it was designed to run. I agree these rides are great, but reliable and safe as they need to be, they are not. That's not even scratching the surface of the issues with Shoot the Rapids, which they are lucky didn't kill anyone, and the issues Intamin has had with it's restraints. I am sorry...I have a season pass to Cedar Point and I for 1. Never see Maverick down unless it is raining. 2. Never MForce down. TTD is understandable. As I said before that thing is unlike anything else. It is a monster and is so powerful it has a right to be down. I will say I haven't gone there and not been on all three more then once a day. Just saying maybe try going more then one day a year! B&M may be more reliable but they are just boring at times. They are the coasters you go to a park and ride one time a day and say yeaaaah I rode that once. But you ride Maverick / Mforce 2 or 3 times! Yes, B&M are never down but they are not as fun/ thrilling. Problem is, most families only go once a year. If that happens to be the day the ride is shut down, then it reflects negatively on the park. If those days start to stack up, it builds a reputation. Throw on top of it the constant construction delays that still are associated w/ Intamin as well as the Shoot the Rapid instance its no coincidence that Intamin has not built a coaster in North America for 4-5 years. Its not just Cedar Fair that doesn't trust, its many in the industry. TTD may be a monster, but that is a poor excuse for daily shut downs. I highly doubt that is what CF intended when the ride was purchased.
  12. IIRC, with Banshee, we knew where the transfer table was going to be, where the station was going to be, and that it was an invert, we knew the lift hill, the only question was the angle prior to the announcements and leaked plans. On project 2017, despite leaked plans several weeks prior to any announcement, we don't have visual evidence of anything, but clearing and what appears to be access roads. Honestly, there is just a lot less to actually discuss, plus you have to account that a decent chunk of project2017's discussion has mingled over to the KI 2016 thread due to the revised entrance for WWC, vine tunnels, move of the funnel cake stand, etc... Little of Banshee's thread had anything to do w/ any ride/attraction currently in operation that season. You also had a better angle for pictures from the tower, which meant that every week we got updated pictures that showed footings being poured and potential routing. While we can see a good chunk of clearing from the train, we don't have good over head pictures that might show a clearer picture of what is happening.
  13. Terp claims (I don't doubt him, but have never seen a link to proof either) that he mentioned the name Banshee roughly a full year prior to its announcement. Being so early, he claims it went almost completely unnoticed, except by Don. As mentioned, the name was trademarked early in the season, so it was out there as a possibility that many had in mind, but those speculating weren't sure if it was really for KI's project or not. CF had trademarked it prior, and was ready to call a ride (Raptor?) by that name before some backlash led them down a different track.
  14. Terp and his dear old mother would have appreciated a Wendy's shuttle bus roaming around the parking lot.
  15. An awfully late announcement for a Thursday. Interesting.
  16. Once upon a time they had part of the ride sitting by the front entrance to give you a glimpse. I distinctly remember the rafts from WWC out front one season (may have been during winterfest), perhaps part of a King Cobra train as well.
  17. I'm fairly certain that is heading south, past western row. That building on the left is fairly new, w/n the last couple of years. But yes, b/w KI & 275
  18. The Clearchannel stations are in that building. the Cumulas Stations (fox 92.5 amongst others) are located off the Norwood Lateral. I'm sure there are several smaller stations as well. Not sure where WLWT broadcasts from, I don't think it was the same place as their radio broadcasts, but I'm not 100%
  19. I believe that is the building that 700 WLW is located in. Its been a few years since I've been down in that building, so not 100%. edit: A quick glance at street view on maps.google.com and I'm now 100% that is the building that 700WLW occupies. Its on the other side of I71 opposite the Kenwood mall. Don't know if this link will work or if you'll have to reset the coordinates to get the view: https://www.google.com/maps/@39.2015769,-84.3709084,3a,60y,138.17h,83.14t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sKH8KYdjlXb4_u9tqQ7mptg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656 edit2: It appears the link will take you the right spot, just scan left and right b/w the north tower and the south tower and you can see the rather unique pattern with the top two levels of glass.
  20. It may end up being both. A mechanical and/or electrical issue that needs immediate attention, turning into a rest of season long shut down and refurbishment similar to SR&R.
  21. Can't speak to an RMC, I'd imagine they are smooth just by looking at the steel they ride upon, unless they have a bunch of weird transitions. Renegade is the one GCI that I've been on, and personally I found it to be very smooth.
  22. KI doesn't have the wood thing covered. yes, they have 3 very solid woodies, all with very unique experiences, but they have nothing similar to a modern GCI woodie. A Renegade clone would make my day and is very different from the current KI woodies.
  23. Doesn't really matter outside of a small subset of people that realize that not only that Adventure Express is not a wood coaster, but can also tell and show you why it is not a wood coaster. At any rate, I'm honestly hoping for 0 inversions as I think KI could benefit from a more family friendly coaster. The last 3 coaster installations were Firehawk, Diamondback and Banshee; that leaves a lot of families out of the equation for one reason or another. Overbanked turns, a nice launch experience and some air time would be great. However, an inverted pass over the WWC Reservoir similar to the pictures that GavPenn has shown would be pretty awesome and a huge selling point. Personally, I think RMCs often look kind of ugly in spots due to the style of many of their supports, though I've never seen one in person, only in pictures. I love the look of most B&Ms, hoping no matter what is added that its not only a great ride experience, but a visually attractive addition as well.
  24. I know almost nothing of the history of the place, other than what I just found on Wiki. If Wiki is accurate, it would appear that they built 4 coasters of varying sizes (including a wild mouse and what appears to be true kiddie coaster since you can ride it at 36" w/ an adult) b/w 1998 & 1999, as well as a new coaster in 1994. Perhaps it was a combination of the owners over building the park too quickly (as many places were at the time) and finding out that they bit off more than they could chew, while CF saw it as a growing threat to one of their markets and took the opportunity to purchase it at an attractive price with no plans to grow the park into anything that would be considered any threat to Cedar Pointe's hold on Southern Michigan. The Park was sold/purchased for $28 mil, so for the cost of one huge coaster addition, they in theory staved off competition while acquiring an asset that could net a small profit. As a side note, after watching POVs of Shivering Timber, Corkscrew & Thunderhawk, it would appear there would be more headbanging per inch of coaster track than any park I've visited or seen thru POVs. Obviously POVs are not a true indication, do those rides really shake you around as much as they appear. I assume Corkscrew, like every other arrow looper that I've been on, has a decent amount of head banging, what about the others? Speaking of Corkscrew, I just assumed all of the arrow loopers of that arrow had a vertical loop followed by two corkscrews. Michigan adventure's skips the vertical loop and turns around after the drop to head thru the corkscrew element. Very short ride. Seems there is very little (at least from the coaster side of things) to attract me to that park unless I just happened to be in the immediate area. Even their Madmouse, which was built the same year as Valley Fairs (which I've ridden, and enjoyed) appears to be very similar, if not identical but suffers from a lack of scenery that you get on Valley Fair's version.
  25. Are you saying by the 4th & 5th grade? or by age 4 or 5? I assume you mean by age 4 or 5, as both of my kids knew by that age that the cartoon characters are not real. However, super heroes, most definitely real, just ask my son (age 7 when this came up) because he met Captain America at Kings Island
