There may be a coyote as well, and in about 30 days, perhaps a few cougars too

At this point, I just assume you are trolling... http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php/topic/31768-my-kings-island-itinerary/#entry711565 Just one of many....and not the first time its been pointed out. But on the off chance that you are just really, really bad at this whole message board thing.. no body can tell you how much money to bring as nobody knows how much you plan to eat while at the park, how many souvenirs if any you decide to purchase, how often you will make use of a locker or on ride photo.... Starting off at Firehawk and Flight of Fear is a good plan, but after that, scrap any plan and do what you like. KI is not so big, and rarely so crowded that you can't fit the whole thing into 1 day. I see no plan for The Beast, The Racers, Flying Ace Ariel Chase, Woodstock express, Adventure Express, the Flying Scooters, Viking Fury, Scrambler, Shake Rattle and Roll, The Monster, the Grand Carousel, shows, hand holding, people watching, 2017 speculation or fireworks. No body knows how long you plan to stay at the park, nor what kind of rides you like or dislike. If a ride tempts, hope on, if it looks boring, give it a whirl anyways, you may be surprised. If you get hungry, stop for a bite to eat. If you get thirsty, water is free, if you get tired, grab a seat on a bench. Every question you have asked has been answered multiple times, in multiple threads, by multiple people (and often more than once). I seriously doubt anything has changed in the advice offered up from your first post to this post. You are allowed to go back multiple pages and refresh and old thread that you created. Have Fun.

With all the mechanical parts back in that area, I would assume there are a handful of floor drains, feeding into oil interceptors that then feed back to sanitary. Oil lines are required to slope more than sanitary lines when gravity drained, therefor, the longer you run an oil line, the deeper your pipe gets, which only cost more in excavation, so its safe to assume there is some sanitary back in that area. However, the question above is valid, if its enough to handle the foot traffic. I would assume any sanitary run back there is at least 4 inches to help avoid clogs (though if you don't have solid waste, there really isn't much to clog up, so a 3" line may be feasible); you can get roughly 40 water closets (20 in the boys, 20 in the girls) plus 20 lavatories, on a 4" sanitary line. That would be a hugely oversized restroom back there. A 3" line reduces the capacity greatly (roughly 8 water closets and 4 lavs) and a lot of that would already have been accounted for in whatever plumbing they do have for the 2 roller coasters plus the service area.

if you can wait a couple of weeks into August, crowds will drop off significantly as kids get back into school and back into fall sports, band or other activities.

some rides I imagine its easier to hold hands than others; if you can, and the girl is willing, I don't think the park would object. I've been on a lot of various coasters with my son and even younger daughter. I often put my hand behind my daughter's head on The Great Pumpkin Coaster and Woodstock Express to keep her from banging it backwards and give her a little more support (did the same for my son). My son doesn't need much hand holding on any rides, but I've given him a fist bump or two after his first ride, or on the lift hill up Diamondback the first time. Rides like Banshee, The Bat or Vortex are harder to work your arm around.

Thanks Ohiparkrock. After going all day, I doubt I'd care all that much to miss a platinum night ride, at least not enough to pay for the upgrade.

Similar topic, figured I'd go to the experts. My family is having a get together at the point in late July, weekend of course. We are now a family of 5.... 3 month old son who won't ride anything other than a stoller and perhaps the train (is there anything else at the Pointe a true youngun' can get on?) 3 year old daughter (guess she'll be 4 by then) who was just all enough to get on viking Fury and Woodstock Express at the end of last season 7 year old son (will be 8) who has been on everything other than Flight of Fear (line was too long when he finally reached 54" at the end of the season and Firehawk (same story) My wife loves coasters and could ride them all day long back to back to back. I love coasters, but can't tolerate taking too many rides in a row. The boy loves most everything, I'm sure he'll love FOF while Firehawk he's a little apprehensive about, but I'm sure we'll get him on at some point before that potential trip.... He used to ride Drop Tower when he was 4, then over the offseason he grew scared of it. I won't ride it, but now that my wife is no longer pregnant for the first time in a long time at KI (a couple of miscarraiges/still birth prior to the recent addition left her ride free for a long time other than brief spurts) he may get on that again as she loves the ride. We all have gold passes to KI (excluding the new born obviously), if we go, we'd likely visit my grandfather for a day, then head over saturday morning, stay saturday evening and perhaps sunday before heading home. With the new born needing nap time, and my wife needing "mother time" staying at Breakers would be extremely beneficial for mid-day breaks. So my question, should we consider upping to a platinum pass? I doubt we'd visit any other CF park this season other than KI, so at most it would be 2 days at the Pointe (unless we did upgrade and decided to spend part of monday morning there). I think I read there is a discount for platinum pass holders to Breakers? Could I upgrade just my own pass to get the breakers discount then purchase single day passes for the rest? How would early entry work on that plan (don't know if we'd even take advantage of it given the age of our youngest 2) Since I know it will be super busy, I'd consider buying Fast Passes, I assume getting one for the 3 year old isn't a benefit, or at least minimally beneficial. As I mentioned above, I can't really marathon rides w/o getting ill, so its not much use for myself, other than shortening a few lines, but it helps the boy who has some ADHD issues and while he's generally pretty good waiting in lines at KI, he can get a bit antsy at times, and I know the CP lines would be much longer on a July weekend. Thanks.

its really no different than most people's mortgages. You buy a house for $150k, and agree to pay $1,000 a month for 30 years (or 15 or 20 or whatever, just using rough numbers and not looking at current interest rates). At the end of the month, when all bills are paid you find yourself with an extra $500 sitting around. You can spend it on something extra, perhaps make some improvements to said house to help increase the value of that house, or you could tuck it away in a bank and earn a little extra on that money in a savings account or thru a stock purchase. The mortgage company doesn't have the right to look into your finances and say "hey you had an extra $500 sitting around, I want my money sooner, as long as you are current upon your agreed upon mortgage, what you do w/ the extra money is up to you. Pay back the loan a little sooner if you like, but in the current market, there are many people that obtained loans at 4% or less interest rates. Historically, the stock market will return roughly 7-10% a year over the long run (and 15 years is typically considered a long run) so you'd be better off "historically" to put that extra money into an S&P 500 fund that to pay off your house a little a quicker. Of course, historical performance is no guarantee of future results, so there is risk involved.

Its been a while, and I can't remember, but if I recall correctly (and someone can search thru the Banshee thread to confirm one way or another) but I seem to recall KI doing a lot of clearing back in that area when they did the site work for Banshee. Some thought that meant the the ride being built was going to extend that far back. I'm not sure many of us realized just how far back that area is. anyhoo, the area is getting larger, whatever it is for.

well, I figured I'd leave myself an "out" for "somebody" There isn't a "somebody". The current state of science simply does not permit accurate forecasting more than about one week out, give or take a couple of days. Accuweather's alleged "45-day forecast" is pure fraud; see the data I collected in April 2012 when they first began offering a 25-day forecast: http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php/topic/25285-accuweather-claims-25-day-forecast/ That ought to show you how impossible it is to forecast more than 5 to 7 days ahead. science, smience. I'll bet there's some monk living in a remote cave that hasn't seen, let alone talked to another person in 40+ years that spends all days studying the stars, moon, tides and gravitational fields that knows exactly what the weather is going to be for the next 30 years in all points of the Earth.

I'd assume its "nothing" that far back, could be some site work to keep that hill from sliding down onto the access road back there.
-
Assuming decent weather, opening day will be busy. Assuming nothing is "broke" (and weather is decent) all rides should be open. However, poor weather can and does keep crowds away and can and will keep rides closed. If you can predict the weather this far out, you're better than 99% of meteorologist currently employed.

The location in the picture is at the juncture of the blacktop leading from the train and the start of the pavers leading back to The Beast. This area was fenced off last year, there was a bench that would be just off the picture and a light post/sign that would either just be off the picture or on the left edge. There was (is?) also a photo booth that would be off to the right of the picture, plus a decent amount of floral that was removed. This is likely a terrible place for a path due to the interaction with Diamondback. Sure the track itself is well above you, but why take the chance that somebody does something stupid? Its near its low point, it would almost be inviting danger, and potential for liability in a court of law. I'm sure there are ways to protect against that, if this is indeed the best spot for a path of some sorts, but I'd be shocked. My best guess, is that this is for one of two things, either the photo booth in that area was profitable enough that the WWC path relocation forced a movement of this booth and it was worth the money to find a spot in the same area. It could also be a spot or the start of work for the family dryer leaving WWC, I'm sure that thing was highly profitable. My other guess, is that they are replacing the old lightpost/signage at that junction with a new video board map, with time, information station that they have installed at other locations in the park.

I haven't seen it posted, and obviously it might change this year, but I believe the offerings at the Reds HOF Grill last season were the chicken tenders, Burger, Salad or a chicken wrap type meal. I think all but the salad (which included chicken) came with chips (or an upgrade to the fries) The Salad was OK, not bad, but great but pretty much what you expect, the Wrap was a decent, burger was solid and I never did get the tenders, but my kids usually did and they looked good. I think they could improve the plan in several ways for both their customer and themselves. 1st, offer an exchange of 1 meal for some sort of snack. We typically go in the evenings, mid week, so getting 2 meals is never in the works. However, if we could use one of the "meals" to get a pretzel from Auntie Anns or perhaps an ice cream later in the evening, I think my family would be thrilled. We'd definitely feel like we were getting more bang for our buck. 2nd, the food proportions very a great deal and don't always make a ton of sense. The LaRosa's option of 2 slices of pizza plus 2 bread sticks is plenty, definitely not overwhelming. Meanwhile, at the Reds HOF grill, you get the regular servings, so it feels like getting served at any other sit down restaurant outside of the park, probably too much food, but it depends upon your appetite, I usually couldn't finish my meal. Finally, at Skyline, the other place we typically ate last season the portions were huge. IIRC, you could get a 3 way and 1 coney or 2 coneys and fries. The 3 ways they served were huge, it was way more food than our family of four could eat, we often just split amongst the 3 of us (1 was a 2/3 year old, so its not like she eats a ton, but the other was a 7 year old boy who can "hold his own") and we'd still have food left over. It seemed like they gave you way too much food (which I'm sure was attractive to some, but I feel like its an area they could alter a bit and save themselves money). 3rd, let you combine meal plans as a family to use one 1 larger item. For instance, lets say we take our 4 meal plans, and turn them into 1 large pizza and salad from LaRosas. I think we'd save KI a bit of time and money in take 1 pizza and divvying it up ourselves, than taking 4 separate plates. Or if you were at the chicken place, you could combine meals into 1 large "bucket" of tenders and fries. Essentially, allow a family or couple to group their meals together saving KI a little bit of time in serving the meal. 4th, tie it into their app so that I could pre-order some items if wanted (I'm mostly thinking Pizza). Lets say were are in line for The Beast, about to board in a train or 2, I could place my order over my phone for 1 large cheese pizza for the family, have it already linked into our passes, then pick it up after we get off knowing it would take about 15 minutes to prepare/cook.

The problem with 'Tiques is that they aren't cheap to operate given their gasoline engines. Oil prices are lower right now than in past years, but that's still a significant cost. And it's very subject to change. I'd be surprised to see parks install new ones in this day and age. I guess you could use electric motors... But a 'Tique that doesn't spurt and putter like the carbureted engines of old is hardly a 'Tique at all, in my book... Valley fair installed new ones what, 3 seasons ago give or take? I don't know what, if anything is different about their maintenance and cost than what KI was using back when I was a kid, but I think its definitely a possibility. On a side note, my wife was pregnant at the time last season, and since their was a warning against riding while pregnant (I assume the real danger is near minimal baring an idiot driver running into the car in front them) she decided to skip it (of course our 7 year old son was going to be the driver, so the "idiot" quotient was quite high and better safe than sorry). Anyways, our 3 year old daughter wasn't big enough to ride in a row by herself (they are set up 2 rows of benches, driver in the front row w/ 1 passenger, 2 passengers in the back row) so I had to sit in the back bench with my daughter while our 7 year old was in the front row by himself w/ full control (plus the guide rail). Seeing as he'd never driven anything even remotely similar to that, I was a little "interested" to see how he handled things. To my surprise he was way more cautious than I thought he'd be and did a great job. It was a great family memory for me; I think it would make a great addition to the park somewhere.

I don't understand the we are good in the woodie department comments. Yes, the woodies we have are great, but we lost over a mile's worth of wood coaster several years back. It may not have been the smoothest ride ever, but I really do miss that first drop of SOB. I would love to see another woodie by a reputable company about the same length of DB, an awesome first drop, fully trim free that is non stop speed from that first drop to the station. Several 90 degree banked turns, and let's outdo Holiday World and have a quadruple down instead of a triple down using the terrain. Although the RMC track is cool, let's not jump on the Six bandwagon, I want a traditional track. I don't care if it is a hybrid as long as we have the traditional wood track. That is my wish list for KI. I am not saying this has to be our next coaster, but the installment after, yes. Let's get back to what put KI on the map!My point was KI doesn't really need another woodie. Adding a 200 foot woodie doesn't exactly add a ton of variety to the current coaster lineup. KI already has 2 legendary woodies as it is. Now adding a 300 foot coaster when there's exactly 1 coaster with a drop over 150 feet in the whole park would certainly make a splash.Plus people seem to keep ignoring my point about the GP's reaction to seeing another 200' woodie being built so soon after the previous one was a massive failure. I'd be absolutely shocked if the park went down that road with their next coaster. I'd put up any amount of money give 5 to 1 odds that it won't happen. Somewhere way down the road? Possibly, but not this soon. Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk I'm far from the expert on roller coasters, 95% of my rides have come at KI. Sprinkle in 3 trips to the Pointe and a couple of trips to the Disney Parks in Orlando and I have a very limited base of experience actually riding different roller coasters. With that said, my trip to Valleyfair this past summer, and my experience on Renegade completely opened me up that there is indeed a hole in KI's wood Coaster lineup. Certainly they have 2 legends, perhaps the biggest wood coaster legend still in operation, as well as a great, kid friendly woodie, but Renegade completely blew me away. I've heard the same things (actually better) with El Toro, and certainly there is love for the woodies down in Holiday World. A Modern woodie doesn't need to be 200+ tall to be great, Renegade more than proved that to me, as well as numerous rides on The Beast & The Racer. All 3 offer vastly different experiences for they may all be woodies, but they are nowhere close to each other in the type of thrills they give. The Racer gives great air time, The Beast gives little to no air time. The Beast screams across the ground in big, forceful swirls with exciting tunnels, The Racer offers none of that, its only turn is less than thrilling. Renegade offered a little bit of both and so much more, double turn first drop, station fly by, banked turns, etc.. all very much a different experience than what KI has on their woodies. If and when KI gets a Giga, it will be a hit, and will generate a great ROI for the park, I have no doubt about that. Based upon history, I fully expect that to happen w/n the 10 years (or next 2 major coaster installations), most likely the next one, whenever that should occur. However, their wooden lineup is hardly complete, still solid, better than most, maybe even all, but not complete by any means.

I need advice for Kings Island in the summer of 2016
medford replied to Blackhole6670's topic in Kings Island
OK, first things first, before the rides. You say you are going with a girl so you can hold her hand. Is this a girl you are dating, or would like to date, or just a friend who's willing to help you along? What is their experience on these rides, or other rides, if any? If its someone you are interesting in dating, a lot of what you do would wisely be chosen by her desires. Knowing what they like and don't like can go a long way in making it a successful venture. Knowing what the end game hopes are (dating, or remaining friends) can also change the game plan. -
I am no park designer, but if there are plans for a new coaster, and if it is going in or around rivertown, I'd think a giga would be a terrible coaster for such a space. Why put your tallest coaster, right next to your 2nd tallest (and most popular?) coaster, while also in the same area as your most legendary coaster? I think any giga, whenever one would be built would be back in Action Zone using the space that SOB once occupied. I believe Ouimet mentioned about a year ago that all of their parks will eventually be getting something similar to Guardian Mountain. That spot seems like a perfect fit for such an attraction and would allow them to use the Crypts box as then enclosed area for the gun shooting portion like GM has. I thought something similar was going into Knotts or another CF park this year, is that correct? I believe that is where the comment that all parks would get one (I think many assumed that the clearing at Cedar Pointe was going to be something similar, so take this all with a large grain of salt). It would also be a great area for a Wild Mouse, I've said for several years that an additional coaster that could accommodate the 44" crowd is a big hole in their "family" lineup. With all that said, a GCI clone of Renegade, sign me up for that in a second, in any location in the park; I'll be there opening day. Whatever is planned, way more than 2 or 3 people know what is going on, the number of people at this point is probably well into the 100s (think of the coaster designers, structural engineers, architects, draftsmen, sales people w/n those companies, KI planning people, landscaping, etc...) if its a project of any large scale. Few of those people will be sharing anything pertinent however until the appropriate time.

Someone says KI is adding the tunnel back on Woodstock Express = me happy Someone says KI didn't say that, just said they were doing track work = me no longer happy (though happy to see the ride getting the TLC it deserves) Is it wrong that a mid 30s father of 3 would be equally excited by the addition of a tunnel and re-branding of Woodstock Express to The Beastie as he would with the addition of a 300 foot coaster? No, no it is not. And since Don is reading, 1 comment: had there been a youth T-shirt available in the store that said something to the effect of I survived the Great Pumpkin Coaster or I survived Woodstock Express with a KI logo on them, my 3 year old daughter would have had both last season. Just sayin'

The Geysers (If my assumptions of what he is referring to is correct) are just barely in the picture towards the bottom of the picture, about 1/3 from the bottom left corner. Its the light brown patch just above the greyish (water turbulence) surrounded by green trees (sort of like a puzzle wrapped in an enigma, tied with a question mark). From that point, you can feed quarters into a handful of machines (8 to 12 tubes IIRC) then punch a button in hopes of deluging a passing boat w/ water. Its an area where the ride kind of slows down and you slowly drift into the final portion, so its a good place to launch from. The tubes are all painted different colors, so you know which button controls with tube. Its also on the exit path walkway from the ride.
-
I forget where on this site I saw it, but there's a new, interactive kind of movie thing, IIRC tied into gaming that seemed like a natural fit for Action Theater, can't recall if it was going into a Cedar Fair park, or a competitor, but that would be my prediction.
-
I'm guessing the Giga gives them the best return on their investment, hence the recent builds, but if I had my pick, I'd love to see a wild mouse (especially if it could be ridden by the 44" crowd) which I think would help fill in a slight hole their coast lineup; I feel like the park could use another "tweener" coaster for the kids that have grown beyond Woodstock Express, but are not tall enough or too nervous to get on The Beast, Vortex, etc... Stunt Track and The Racer fits this description well, but its 48" height limit means there are a bunch of kids waiting a season (or more) for something more than FAAC. With that said, for personal enjoyment, I'd take a clone of Renegade in a second, even better if it was stretched out a little more, but man, what a thrill.

If you squint real hard, it kind of looks like the layout for The Beast, at least in my mind, not that that really means anything.

Its easy to make work, it just depends upon your parameters. If you live "far away" (ie an hour + in my book) its tough to work a full day, scoot to the park for a few hours, drive back home, then go to work the next day. Certainly not impossible, but not something I'd be willing to do regularly. So in that case, its a matter of using vacation time at the park mid week or hitting it up on the weekends, which I'd suggest getting there early before the crowds hit. If you live close, its easy to make it over in the evening on a regular basis. I literally drive by KI every day after work, up 71N. My wife is a teacher, so she has the summers off. We'll usually meet up at the park once a week, mid week in the evening around 5:30. Having season passes, and going that often, there is never pressure to hit one ride or another, we can put off a long line today for something else, and try the other ride later. Its rarely all that crowded mid week in the evenings anyways to actual deter us from riding anything due to lines alone. We have young kids, a 7 year old who is officially too tall for many of the rides in Planet Snoopy, a 3 year old who just grew up to Woodstock express at the end of last season and a new born who won't ride anything but the Train and "parking lot experience" for the next year or two. With my wife off in the summer, the kids bedtime slips significantly later in the summer than during school. B/w the pool and KI, they're often not in bed until 10:00 or later in the summer; they get to sleep in as long as they like on the other end. Planet Snoopy is often "dead" in the last hour or so, many leave the park, some hang out front for fireworks, rarely is there much of a line. I feel like mid-week you could probably knock out 80% of Planet Snoopy in the last 2 hours most mid week nights (don't know about weekends), so if you find yourself in that stage with young kids, you can get plenty done in a short amount of time. Other areas of the park are fairly manageable as well. (all mid week-evenings) Adventure Express rarely has a wait, Racers wait is short, Banshee line goes quick, Beast is about 15-30 minutes until maybe it gets close to fireworks. Diamondback can be a bit longer, 30 minutes is typical. The 7 year old didn't hit 54" until late last season, so we didn't get to try Flight of Fear or Firehawk with him to know what to expect there. Stunt Track can be hit or miss on lines in the evening, sometimes 30 min+ sometimes, its 5 minutes. Don't know about Invertigo, the wait for The Bat is typically short, longer to walk back there than to sit in line most evenings. Most of the flats have short lines as well mid week-evenings. One thing to beware, is that many food stands start closing up early, so if you don't eat by 8, service becomes worse and food has sat out longer. It can take some time to exit the park if you wait for fireworks, either sit in the park and enjoy some ice cream, or leave a few minutes early or as the fireworks are going off to save a few minutes.
