  1. Inraider, I don't mean to brag, but this guy's got it. If it's a violation of law, it's a violation. Again, not bragging, but just saying that I do happen to have the audio of the former Phantom Theater. (hmmm would the leagality change because it's a former ride?) Anyway, I don't want to upset anyone that thinks there's a possible legal issue in this, I'm just replying to what Inraider said. Don't think that I'm the only one with the audio from the ride, as I'm sure many others have got their hands on it one way or another, but I would never consider selling the audio of it for profit even though it's a legend.
  2. But wouldn't you say that DZ is interesting because it is probably the most high tech ride in the entire park?
  3. Yeah, the big snake is one of the other rides that got the axe. It had its positives and its negatives, but one good thing about it was that it could run at least two cars at once I think. It was also a short ride, some see that as a positvie, some as a negative. It's the only stand-up ride I've ever been on, still, and I'll miss it.
  4. For the second time today, I apologize for starting another sore topic. Even though I can't offer a reason behind the rule, and it appears nobody can, I respect it as a rule that should be followed. In case I haven't said it before, I believe environment is key at a place like PKI. Many of the recordings I like the most aren't when I'm even on an actual coaster: they are when I'm just walking on international street, hearing the fountains and the music in the background. It's the environment that makes it such a special place and I just wanted to capture it on an audio tape. Do I subsitute that for a trip to PKI? No way. But I do listen occasionally to get a feel of what it was like walking around there. Some people pop pills to get rid of bad memories, but I choose to pop in a tape to bring back good ones. Sometimes memories are all we have to go on, but, again, I now know that it wasn't a necessarily lawful act. Going along with what someone else said, I just don't believe in spending eight dollars after every ride in order to preserve the memory of it. And, to quote a great Paramount Pictures character, "That's all I have to say about that."
  5. Ok, Ok....I'm sorry I started another sad PT thread. I take responsibility for it, so just blame me. I'm looking forward to meeting new friends, so I don't wanna spark any more controversy. Some people just don't like the modern things compared to things in the past. That's just the way it is with anything you can think of. Some people say "In with the old, out with the new," and I won't even predict how long Scooby will be there. I just thought I'd bring it up because it was my first post and it was about my favorite non-coaster ride in the world. I can see both sides of the argument about taking PT out, and the aftermath of it. Anyway, there's absolutely nothing we can do besides mourn the loss and move on. We can remember it for what it was and what legacy it left behind. "Assanine" is a word some people will use to describe the way I'm talking about this ride as if it was an actual person and had feelings...but in a strange way it did and you either really liked it or you really didn't. After riding the MIB ride at USO, I secretly wished that PKI would get a ride like that. Well, and it's a universally true statement, be careful what you wish for. Anyway, RIP, Maestro. May you never stay dead.
  6. Thanks for the info, DragonLord. I know I talked to you a little on AIM, but I thought of one more question that maybe anyone might be able to answer. I mentioned to DragonLord that it'd be one hell of a commute for me if I was interested in a position at PKI, because I live about 20 miles south of Columbus. Anyway my question is, because I've heard rumors about this, is does PKI house employees? I was just wondering, and I know it's kinda a stretch, but like I said I have heard rumors.
  7. OK, I'm the new guy. I've already established all that and I've got another hot debate going on somewhere else, so I thought I'd start a "lighter" topic, involving many things. First of all, I just created a 25-question multiple choice quiz on PKI for Funtrvia.com. It is not up and ready to play yet, since I'm still waiting for Funtriva.com admin approval. However, there are a couple of PKI quizzes not created by me available right now and you can check them out if you want to. If you wanna track your records, make sure you become a member. More information about how to get to the specific quiz and the link is at the bottom of the post. Secondly, I just wondered how many of you are PKI staff and where specifically you work. I know that can get boring for people who know and love each other, but I'm just curious. I'm also a little surprised that there ARE so many employees who post. Many employees have that info on their sig, and that's a nice touch. Anyway, are you assigned to a specific ride at all times or can you jump around? Lastly, on this subject, I know it's a stretch and just kind of a hypothetical thing, but is PKI looking for new employees? Third, I want to pitch a new idea to you: Top Ten Lists, about anything having to do with PKI, and written by anyone who wants to write one. I'm a writer, so that's kind of my thing. Give me ideas for Top Ten topics and general thoughts about creating Top Tens. I thought of a topic: "Top Ten Annoying Questions That Smart Asses Ask at the Krusty Krab" such as "Do you have Krabby Patties?" Anyway, gimme your feedback; I don't work there but I've been there enough times to know what goes on. Which leads me to my final thought. My final thought is that I prefer Kings Island to any park in the world, even the all-powerful Cedar Point. Environment is key at PKI, that's what makes it so special. I've watched it evolve in my eighteen years into a thriving theme park and an Ohio icon. I believe the last time I went was October 14, 2002. (I forget too easily) Before that, I went on October 1, 2000 and May 1, 1999. I look forward to going sometime SOON because believe me I got the fever. I've got a big hankering for some Smurf ice cream, too. And just a few hours ago while I was at home eating a hot dog for lunch, I wished I was at La Rosa's, hearing the roaring of The Vortex as I dined. In the meantime, I'll just have to think about the past trips and look forward to the future ones. Anyway, I got an AP test to study for....uuughhh. Peace until next time;) http://www.funtriva.com click on "Entertainment" and the it's something like "Coasters and Theme parks" from there. Have fun!
  8. Yeah, I know. I didn't want it to turn into a big argument, hence the "Dare I Say." Like I've said, there's no real way I can profit from it in any way, shape, or form. That's the only reason I can think of why it would be illegal. Safety might be an issue too, but not in my case since the recorder was safely stowed away. Another than safety, which of course is paramount, no pun intended, and profiting from it, what issue is left? Do you think I charge admission to have people come to my house and listen to my exciting, enthralling, audio tapes of Kings Island every weekend? Certainly not. Again, there's virtually no way to profit from this. None.
  9. I think the italianchef is right. Does he work for La Rosa's? Anyway, I mean, the only real way to make a profit off of it is to record what I taped onto my computer, then record that information onto a CD, and then sell it. Why would I want to go through all of that? Who would want to buy it even if I did? The only thing I have of interest is some "audio files" of Phantom Theatre, as recorded by me. Anyway, I was just wondering what you all thought. MAESTRO! That's the guy's name from PT...Ok, well nevermind I just thought of that it was something that was bothering me. I look forward to posting more on the best park ever and getting to know some of you fanattics like me; and, like I said, I'm still in the process of creating a quiz about PKI and I'll keep you posted on its progress. Peace. PS. Hats off to the great pics I've seen on this site and the site that the dude gave the link to.
  10. In May of '99 and October of '00, I used a mini-tape recorder "hidden" inside a fanny pack, to tape myself on rides. I've done this at more places than King's Island, and I've asked other boards about it and most people are convinced it's not "illegal." Thoughts, anyone? I've read the topic on "illegal" picture taking, and don't have anything to say about that. I've never done it, that's all I know. Strictly audio is much much better, I think.
  11. First of all, I'm new to the board and I've been a long-time fan of King's Island for a long time. It's my favortie park in the US, and I actually prefer it over CP. I was disappointed when I went last October, as my favorite ride Phantom Theatre was closed down. I heard it would be no more as of this spring and I was sad. First they take the smurfs out, and now Phantom Theatre is going. It's almost as if that building is cursed. I've actually seen the line for PT be pretty long before, though. Anyway, I'm sure the Scooby ride will be great, as I enjoyed the MIB ride at USO. Any other sad Phantom Theatre fans out there? I'm in the process of creating a PKI quiz at Funtrivia.com. Me and my brother were having a discussion of what COASTER has the longest queing line station in the park. I know that WWC is probably the longest non-coaster station in the park, but I would like to know what the longest coaster station is. I believe it's Top Gun.
