  1. If my post got downvoted half-a-dozen times, then perhaps it wasn't as seemingly-brilliant as I thought it was. And I would learn from that and improve my posts from that point forwards. I've interacted in numerous online communities and those that have a downvote option encourage their users to better their posts, and to be frank, if someone is too hurt over people disagreeing with them and downvoting them, perhaps they're not mature enough to be contributing to a forum.
  2. ^^Not if the anonymity of who is downvoting what posts remains.
  3. Thanks for reminding me why I don't like coming here much anymore. It also reminds me how much I want a "downvote" button on this site.
  4. ^Yeah, I recall seeing that photo too. I'm surprised I didn't save it, and now I can't find it anywhere.
  5. I know I'm bumping an older thread here and referencing an old post, but I'm curious: What were some of the original effects in Phantom Theater that bit the dust? I know plenty of ones from Adventure Express, but I've never heard of any from Phantom Theater.
  6. And a couple more pictures for the curious... Year unknown (but not 1974 - I'd guess it's 1972). From KICentral's own photo gallery. Year unknown 1972, according to KIC user Elfdog. Shot from the interior. Source unknown. 1975. 1976 or 1977. Sorry for potato quality - it's from an old eBay auction I'm kicking myself that I didn't bid on. Notice the theater turned blue this year. Side note, regarding eBay auctions for old Kings Island photo sets - I assume the winning bidders are others who are passionate about the park. I'm therefore somewhat surprised that the photos are never scanned and shared on sites like this.
  7. ^Regarding the shot from gorillasdontblog.blogspot.com, that was actually taken one of the days that The Brady Bunch was filming in the park in 1973, hence the buses and equipment scattered around the theater. Here's some additional shots of the theater: 1972, courtesy cheezonastick.net From a 1973 souvenir book. The inset is the interior of the theater. 1974, from an old eBay auction. Excellent shot of the whole structure. 1974, from KICentral user standbyme. The building housed "Make Your Own Kind of Music" this year. The theater was removed after it collapsed under the weight of a heavy snowfall during the (I think) 1975-76 off-season. I could have sworn I've seen a picture of the damage somewhere online, but I've been unable to locate it. Anyone able to help?
  8. How are you able to see a user's past sales? I'm not very familiar with Craigslist and how it all works. Edit - No idea on the source, but here's a shot of the Face/Off model when it was at the park.
  9. The thing is, these "upscale coffee snobs" are spending more than pet owners are. Based off the numbers, the park can justify expanding one of its most popular food service locations, just as I'm sure it can justify removing an under-utilized facility. I imagine that the park has accounted for the possibility it may lose a select few visitors, but have also determined they're saving more in the long run by not staffing and maintaining a pet care facility. Even if it was only a single employee working that spot from 10am-10pm every day, at minimum wage, you're still talking well over $10,000 for a single season.
  10. ^^Here's the same angle from August 2011, courtesy Google Maps: It appears as though they're expanding the building outwards a few feet. I wonder what benefits the extra space will have, plus how they'll make the addition match the current structure (especially the roof, which is very steep and probably cannot just be extended).
  11. Those decals were on the trains last season. They weren't around opening weekend, but were there by mid-May. Regarding off-season maintenance and all, Kings Island just posted this video on their Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=10153498253138368&set=vb.155893938367&type=2&theater And although I'm not the biggest fan of the music, I'm incredibly impressed by the video's quality. It showcases a good variety of camera angles, shots, etc., and is light years ahead of videos the park used to churn out on Facebook and Twitter. To reference, here's a look at Soak City's construction from October 2011: https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=1570126070636&set=vb.155893938367&type=2&theater Even if it's only 24 seconds, the older video is embarrassingly amateur and very uninteresting to watch. The new one is a great improvement.
  12. I feel as though the other characters should indeed be elsewhere in World Showcase. Many of Disney's films utilize certain countries as their settings and the fact that these same countries are represented at Epcot just begs for the characters to be better featured. Adding on to your list, Ratatouille in France, Pinocchio in Italy, Hunchback of Notre Dame and Aristocats in France, and Sword in the Stone in UK. Although there are definitely more we still haven't covered.
  13. ^Timberwolf can seat 10,000. Not sure how that number changes when you only consider seats in front of the control board. And I imagine that Timberwolf will stick around for as long as Spirit Song makes it profitable enough for the park to keep it. Once that passes, I imagine Timberwolf will too.
  14. WEBN Celebrity Slaughter only ran in 2002, so it'd have to of been then.
  15. I was browsing some old topics and thought the content from this post was worth sharing. Kings Island's Floral Date from 1974. And again, from 2011. I agree wholeheartedly with what the original poster, standbyme, said about the date: Besides the Tower silhouette being more defined, I also enjoy the fact that the park name was included. I wonder when that stopped. Edit - Browsing further into that thread, it appears that the park also once listed the year. I don't know when it started, but 2008 was the last year before it stopped.
  16. ^That's exactly what they are. The ones shown are the structures are for Funky Phantom (Linus' Beetle Bugs) and Squiddly Diddly (Boo-Boo's Baggage Claim, removed after 2005).
  17. If you're referencing the video I linked to, then it's Zodiac. Zodiac was a 135-foot double-armed Ferris Wheel manufactured by Intamin. It was added in 1975 and was removed after 1986, at which point it was relocated to Wonderland Sydney in New South Wales, Australia, where it remained until 2004. It is reportedly currently in storage at Sunway Lagoon Park in Malaysia. Following its removal, it was replaced by Flight Commander in 1990 and that space is now home to the Dinosaurs Alive! Party Pavillion. Courtesy KIExtreme.com Courtesy KIExtreme.com Courtesy Casabrian.com
  18. Jumping back a bit here... I know I already posted evidence that Skylab and Tumble Bug did not share the same queue structure HERE, as evidenced by the 1972 photo with Tumble Bug and no queue structure. HERE is an additional piece, this time from 1980, that still shows no queue structure. So, as I originally stated, Tumble Bug's queue is not still standing. It's Skylab's queue, tucked between The Racer's entrance and Adventure Express' exit. That's actually the exit to Enchanted Theater, not Voyage. Enchanted Theater opened in 1992 when the building was converted from Smurf's Enchanted Voyage to Phantom Theater. However, the large "station" for Great Pumpkin Coaster and its photo booth is actually the station for Smurf's Enchanted Voyage. Guests used to board the boats about where they now board the roller coaster train. As the whole ride was shipped off to Camden Park after its removal in 1987, I'd say no.
  19. Here's all the attractions featured and at what times. 0:03 - Dodgem 0:05 - Racer 0:12 - Flying Carpet 0:20 - Kings Island and Miami Valley Railroad 0:49 - Gulliver's Rub-a-Dub (this is only the second time I've ever seen video of it, so kudos on the rare find) 1:00 - Enchanted Voyage 1:11 - Sky Ride 1:18 - Motor Mouse 1:20 - Scooby-Doo (in background) 1:24 - Kikky Kangaroo 1:54 - Winsome Witch's Caldron (it had multiple different, similar names at points) Definitely a great find, and the 1972 date on the reel seems accurate (at the very latest it's 1974, based off Winsome Witch's Caldron having colored cauldrons. They were black by 1975). EDIT - The cauldrons were actually repainted in 1974, so this footage is for sure from 1972 or 1973. I'm assuming that the date on the front is accurate though.
  20. An English minor is probably more than most "writers" on news websites today have.
  21. I'd recommend breaking apart your ideas with paragraphs. Otherwise, many users - myself included - won't read it, as it's just a giant wall of text.
  22. Excellent article. I'm slightly confused on one part though - so the park's first greenhouse was constructed before the park broke ground? Was the greenhouse constructed as part of Kings Island, or was it a lucky chance a former land owner built a greenhouse the park could then utilize?
  23. I'd agree with this. I found Intimidator completely forgettable and couldn't begin to correctly describe the number of hills and turns and their proper order if I tried. Having ridden all three Cedar Fair B&M hyper roller coasters, I'd personally rank Intimidator as the number one. I found it much more thrilling and exciting than Behemoth or Diamondback.
  24. I agree with marth555, that the staggered seating provides a better view. It also offers more space to outstretch one's arms. A fair trade-off for a bit of "rattle" that's still magnitudes below most other Kings Island roller coasters.
  25. Added Adventure Park USA. Also, I am amazed that Busch Gardens Williamsburg still hasn't announced their new roller coaster. Hopefully that post will be added soon.
