  1. I threw this chart together to show the number of operating stand-up roller coasters in North America and the world in general, year by year. Pardon a couple ones being relocated by Six Flags a few years back, there has not been a new stand-up roller coaster built anywhere since 1999. They were definitely a fad of the 1980s and 90s, and if the floorless conversion rumors are true, it'll be a refreshing and welcomed change.
  2. Actually, Elitch Gardens in Colorado opened Brain Drain this year, which is the same model as the four SIX parks are adding. This seems to be the general census among enthusiasts, and I can't understand why. Ignoring the fact that they're being marketed as coasters, they're no different than other flat rides, which most people seem fine with. And from what I've heard, these are larger, more fun versions than typically found at carnivals. How is that different from old-style fun houses, which did indeed go out of style... hence why they're no longer a staple at all amusement parks, as they were in the mid 20th century. I was afraid of the same thing. Twisted Colossus looks incredible in the POV rendering, but slow operations may create a totally different attraction. Also, I'm afraid of a Dueling Dragons like incident, which will cause the park to no longer race them. The common commenters on Facebook aren't an accurate representation of the GP either, it's more frequently a level inbetween enthusiasts and GP. And, just to point out, the only reason some of those top comments are indeed at the top is because enthusiasts continually "Like" them and push them upwards.
  3. ^The recycling bins were added at the start of 2010.
  4. ^That's typically because most attractions don't have a greeter position, and that beer won't be spotted until the guests are almost on the ride.
  5. It's park policy that alcohol is not permitted in any queue line at Kings Island. There's actually a snippet about that on the park map.
  6. It's because the smaller ride was, or appeared to be, shorter than 48". This means she must ride with a responsible adult and be underneath that adult's lapbar, with the adult on the outside of the row and the child on the inside. And the child is perfectly safe, even if the lap bar doesn't seem "down enough". Centrifugal forces are cool things - you can actually set a cup of water on the boat and it'll remain in place, without spilling the drop, the whole ride.
  7. As upstop mentioned, it was the larger arcade used for a FearFest attraction. It was Curse of the Crypt from 2001 through 2004.
  8. I beg to differ - sure, the Princess Fairytale Hall may not be your cup of tea, but by no means is a young adult male the target audience. It's a great addition that helps concentrate some high-demand characters in a single spot. And regarding Maelstrom, in my opinion, that attraction is outdated and a Frozen overhaul is the fresh new life that it - and World Showcase in general - desperately needs. Sure, the back half of Epcot is beautiful and highly detailed, but it's extremely lacking, especially for children. Including Disney characters into the attractions is a genius idea, and I hope it's only due time until we see Ratatouille in France, Alice in Wonderland in United Kingdom, etc. Wrong park, bud
  9. Here's a compiled list of all the attractions thus far announced for Orlando's Halloween Horror Nights: Houses: -The Walking Dead: The End of the Line -From Dusk Till Dawn -Halloween (not officially announced by Universal, but announced by Halloween) -Alien vs. Perdator Scare Zones: -Face Off -The Purge Anarchy
  10. ^It'd have been an unintentional, accidental leak. Versus The Bat last year, which was the park poking fun at enthusiasts and attempting to confuse them.
  11. Shake, Rattle, and Roll opened alongside Zodiac in 1975. It was originally known as Troika, which is the ride model's name. It's been a few years, but I seem to recall, when Italian Job: Stunt Track was announced, it was stated by the park that Flying Eagles would remain, only it'd be relocated to the former Flight Commander pad?
  12. Well according to this page, a VIP tour for eight people would be $1,992. The single rider line lasted until midway 2011, when Fast Lane suddenly appeared and immediately replaced it.
  13. Petition. Heh! How many petitions were there for Son of Beast's return? As if a few dozen enthusiast signatures somehow outweigh shareholders, dividends, safety, operations, etc. Wasn't Six Flags Great America's Whizzer roller coaster saved as the result of public outcry over its planned removal? Not to mention, public opinion made our own park reverse a couple Halloween Haunt decisions back in 2009.
  14. Based off this old WindSeeker webcam from March 23, 2011, it looks as though only the cars are removed. The giant arms appear to stay in place during the off season. Of course, as the photo is from late March, maybe the arms were removed earlier in the off-season and were simply reinstalled before this screenshot was taken.
  15. Knott's Skeleton Key includes an exclusive first room that standard visitors don't get to experience. These rooms take up space and need to be easily accessible, plus must be located near the start of the maze so that they can easily merge with the actual maze. This brings up the question, where will Kings Island incorporate these extra rooms? I can't think of any space in Club Blood's, Wolf Pack's, or Urgent Scare's show buildings that they could add a new scene. Which makes me wonder, will the park instead take a pre-existing scene, build a wall around it, and call it a "new" scene that only guests that pay the premium will get to experience?
  16. 1. RCDB doesn't use "the" for any roller coaster. Saying that RCDB calls it "Beast" versus "The Beast" is meaningless. 2. In 1979, Kings Island called it The Beast. It's always been called The Beast, in its logo, in park maps and brochures, and the like. It has only very rarely been addressed as simply "Beast", such as in this directory here. But note again, like RCDB, it doesn't use "The" for anything. And everywhere else in that brochure, in the ride descriptions and the logos and also on the map, it says "The Beast".
  17. As jcgoble3 mentioned, the price of the pass is dependent on when you bought it. Many park visitors purchased a junior pass when it was discounted to the same price as a regular pass, meaning that there would be no charge for the upgrade. It's just a slight hassle for the guest, who has to stop at pass processing and get a new pass either before they leave or on their next visit.
  18. As anyone who knows me is well aware, I adore Kings Island history and know far too much about the park's past. One area I'm still pretty uninformed in though is FearFest's first year, when the event was created by Sudden Impact! Entertainment and Kings Island did not play a large role in creating the attractions. As the park took control the following year, attractions from 2000 like Torture Tower, Pirate Jack & the Legend of Halloween in 4-D, and Museum of Horrors are poorly documented and there isn't much information on them whatsoever. This brings up my question - does anybody have any pictures, information, or whatever else from Museum of Horrors? All I know is based off old news articles, reviews, and the old FearFest spotlight posted on this website a couple years back. The below text is pulled from a "research paper" of sorts I'm writing: Museum of Horrors was an overlay of Phantom Theater. The attraction now featured scarier faces on the characters, moments of complete darkness, and ten live actors. While some scenes were intensified, others were simply covered with black scrim. The attractions sound track was also switched out. Phantom Theater did not operate during regular park hours, but became a nighttime-only attraction. In addition to the thematic changes for Phantom Theater, operational changes also existed. Were going to load (only) every other car, said Mark Gildersleeve, creative director with Paramount Parks design staff. It's worth it to cut (the hourly ride count) in half to get a quality show. Gildersleeve worked alongside Paramount Parks project manager and producer Russell Dishman to coordinate the first FearFest. In addition, here is the only picture I can find, courtesy of Dafe.org: Does anyone know more about the attraction, or maybe even have pictures or videos worth sharing?
  19. You haven't looked very recently then. Since 2011, when all of Coney Mall was given pavers, the urn has been removed and there's a small floral patch there now. Personally, I think one of the fountains like zomebieninja linked to would be perfect in that circular spot.
  20. If you're supposedly a credible news source for the Cincinnati area, at least learn how to properly spell the name of one of Cincinnati's largest attractions... And a couple people already mentioned it from http://www.wcpo.com/news/local-news/warren-county/mason/report-kings-island-flight-of-fear-indoor-roller-coaster-catches-fire article, but... No, no, no. As a couple other members have mentioned, the ride was renamed in 2001. The only rides in the park renamed in 2006 were the former Hanna-Barbera ones. Edit - Also, can't believe I missed this, but the "Coney Island section"? It hasn't been identified as Coney Island since 1985.
  21. I recall hearing two rumors on another website about the future of these coasters. 1. Rocky Mountain will come in and link the two tracks, creating the world's longest roller coaster (~8,600 feet) 2. Rocky Mountain will come in and redo both rides, making one a more "traditional" wooden roller coaster (airtime hill after airtime hill), the other more "twisted", similar to RMC's other attractions. Having two separate, very different tracks would allow the park to count the attraction as two separate coasters, boosting their coaster count even higher. Of course, it could be neither of the above, and both coasters may be biting the dust for all we know.
  22. About four hours on Firehawk's second day of operation at Kings Island, although that included extended downtime for both bad weather and for "technical difficulties".
  23. You do all realize that the video is satire and should not be taken seriously whatsoever? And if any of you are the least bit miffed by it, then you're the foaming fanboys that the video creator is mocking.
  24. But then we couldn't have music videos and celebrity news updates on FunTV!
