New Kings Island park 500,000 gallons short
Losing Streak replied to SML828's topic in Coming Attractions
Not too many people seem to understand that the park is not 500,000 Gallons short. That's a big problem with the media. They simplify things in headlines, and you end up taking away from the article that PKI cannot open this waterpark because they're 500,000 gallons short. Quite frankly, they're not. Warren County/Mason have said that they can't handle ALL of PKI's new request. Which indicates that they can handle some. And PKI has said that all 500,000 gallons was not to be used solely on the new waterpark. Some of it is for expansion beyond 2004. It's pretty easy to see that the park isn't 500,000 gallons short. I would be extremely surprised if they don't get it done next year. Money can change anything. -
There's nothing they can do though if the tornado goes down on the ground right in the middle of PKI. No 5-15 minutes of warning. None of that.

In reference to Mandarin, I will never eat there because it was shut down for a week in full season for some odd reason .

New Kings Island park 500,000 gallons short

The water system was probably designed and built long before the urban sprawl had even started becoming what it is nowadays. It could have been an issue of money as well. -
PKI doesn't have the money. I'm sure the initial building cost and also the cost of upkeep are more then any of us can comprehend. Not to mention staffing. They can't even keep the rest of the park staffed. It won't happen, especially not if you ever want to see a new roller coaster.
-
PKI will never ever tell the cheerleaders to shove it, as long as the Timberwolf Concession stand breaks its record. Which it did. The cleanup fees and security guard hassles will never cost enough to weigh down that, along with all the admissions profit.
-
Good luck riding anything on the last weekend of the year. They practically give away tickets then.
-
PKI Landscaping can pull anything off. If they really wanted to, they could put palm trees there for the summer and bring them in to a controlled growing environment for the winter. I'm sure it could be done.

SOB wasn't exactly a prototype. Sure, it was the first looping coaster in the "modern era," and it is the only 200+ foot woodie, but it doesn't really feature anything prototypical. It did used to break down a lot though. So, I guess you could add it to the list as well.

I can think of two obvious examples, right here in the great state of Ohio. First, the original POS Arrow Prototype, The Bat, here at PKI. Second, that monstrosity up at CP, Top Thrill Dragster.

Work in Food Service. Better pay, free lunch. Carts are the best area, by the way.
-
On a related note, perhaps they will do something for SOB's 5th operating season. Like tunnels or something. If not, it's still an awesome ride.
-
Will you shut up already? First of all, you have no idea what a waterpark expansion might bring. It could be a "thrillride." Second of all, PKI cares not what you think. A waterpark will bring in more revenue then you can comprehend, and give them more money to build a better "thrillride." Third of all, your immature comments make you look like an idiot, and I hope you learn to type more intelligently.

That's the article that's pre SOB. It doesn't mention "Project 2000." Breakdown: 1999-Park officials unveiled plans for next season's $35 million investment, which includes a pair of breath-taking rides expected to cost around $10 million each. The remaining money will be spent on other less-spectacular improvements. 2000-at an estimated cost of near $20 million. (Park officials wouldn't confirm the cost). That reads like 35+20 to me.
-
I know there's no camera on top of the tower anymore, just the pole. So don't hold your breath.
-
Well, according to these two articles SOB and 1999, it was about 55 million. But that doesn't include price over-runs on SOB and all of its other problems. But yeah, I was a little high in my estimate.
-
I believe that Action Zone was a $100 million investment over two years. (99 F/O, DZ, new theming; 2000 SOB)

You have to do opposite sides when you climb. Left foot and right hand at the same time and right foot and left hand at the same time.

This topic is really dumb. But from the hints, I'm guessing we're getting a water ride that has a bridge over the powerlines and the picnic grove (sand pit net ball) and a suspended coaster will be moving or dissapearing altogether, and the new ride will be themed to star trek. Doesn't make any sense at all

Ah yes. The clouds were all dark behind it, and they showed the stroller(old fashioned, of course) on various portions of the track. The one I most remember is at the top of the lift hill. A few times this year, the clouds have been so dark over SOB that it reminds me of the commmercials.

Those disclaimers never hold up in court.

They're actually really easy, at least for me. I've replaced the timing chain on mine in my driveway, along with changing the oil. I've never heard of anybody really having problems working on them. Keeping this on topic, everyone should come to PKI on Sunday, even if you don't drive a Saturn.
-
I didn't think about it, or I would have posted this before, but for the Saturn drivers out there, Saturn day is August 10, this Sunday. I don't know the benefits or anything, there might be free parking, I know that local retailers had discounted tickets, but aside from that, I don't really know too much. Just thought I'd get it out here and see if anyone else is cool enough to drive a Saturn.

As far as it goes though, most of CP (the rides) has been constructed in the last 31 years, so in that regard it is a very fair comparison.
-
I would assume (and I am assuming, no knowledge at all) that the balancing weights would be heavier for that exact reason, so that if the motors were to fail, riders wouldn't be stuck upside-down. Just a friendly assumption though.
