I’m not trolling. I’m being serious, since there were some reports out of SK of reinfection. Until they come out with a peer-reviewed medical journal showing properties of this new coronavirus, nothing can be assumed.

Most likely bad first tests or rare cases, but I digress. If there is no immunity to be found...will the park ever re-open?

As I said earlier, temperature checks won’t work, as they can’t ID asymptomatic individuals.

You are correct, but this has moved into a phase where governments are thinking less about people getting sick, and more about making sure hospitals can keep up with demand. If cases grow but the ICU's are not overwhelmed, nobody cares...so to speak. That's why the reigns are being loosened. Virus is moving so fast we're going to be real close to herd immunity by the time they figure out a vaccine IMO. And as you mention---we have no idea how many have it, but aren't even sick!

Probably not here in Ohio though. DeWine doesn't seem to be in a rush to open up the economy like Florida and Georgia and Texas are. I think it'll be interesting to watch those states when they reopen to see what happens to determine what we should do.

The science is showing outdoor gatherings are far more safe than indoor events. I think once it gets hot here in the midwest you're going to see things change. FL,GA, and TX are already getting hot so it makes sense they are ahead of the game.

So DeWine's going to be unveiling a reopen Ohio plan tomorrow. So tomorrow, I think we should get an even better idea on when the park may start getting ready to open and maybe take a slight guess on when they are going to reopen or if they'll reopen at all.

It's almost May, and it's going to get hot out soon. Those who want to stay home will. We're about to find out how strong this virus really is. Governor's be darned!

If they can’t figure that part out these tenured professors will just take a sabbatical or retire. They are not going to spend an hour in a lecture hall with 300 super spreaders 3X a week.

Fair. And I see nothing wrong with that. We need to protect those most at risk. I wholeheartedly agree with that! I do see some benefit for "the others" moving on though.

The issue is not so much the students keeling over.

I think this is really what Mitch Daniels was trying to point out.

but all the faculty and staff that are mostly not under 30 that have to provide the service these students are paying for.  They are not so easily replaceable.

True this! I don't think ALL the faculty and staff are going to drop-dead, but that is a valid point. And I think Mitch, and Purdue as a whole, is trying to figure this part out. How to keep faculty and staff safe. That doesn't mean the entire thing has to shut down though.

1st of all people people under 30 can still get very sick from this virus but more importantly those people in the dorms would then spread it to others which will eventually lead to older or more at risk people get infected with the virus

Under 30-s will not spread the virus to older people if older people are staying home and social distancing. Right? I mean...that's what we're told. Wear a mask, stay home, etc. What's the problem?

Where are these dorms filled with people under 30 right now?

Stop playing dumb, and look at the death-rates across the USA under-30, and then tell me your argument. I've already told you Indiana's...about one death under 30. Look at Michigan which has 2x indiana's positive cases...a couple.

Working out splendidly for Singapore with contract tracing and testing that would make our heads explode.  Should be an interesting fall semester at Purdue, who knows maybe all of them will give it a go.  It won’t end well.

Singapore's cases are mostly migrant workers. I'm not saying they aren't essential, but it's about living quarters, and not exactly relevant to the midwestern US.

This will be interesting. I live here, in West Lafayette proper home to Purdue. To date there has been no deaths in Indiana under-20, and I think only one under 30. Kids will certainly build immunity. There's some really difficult decisions being made right now, that is for sure. I don't think anybody quite has a grasp as to what "ending well" even means yet.

Here are guidelines on how their competing neighbor plans to re-open...

To be fair, the goal of stay-at-home orders has never been to eliminate Covid-19, but rather to slow its spread. Unless you live where a large outbreak is happening, many hospitals right now are seeing LESS patients than they have at the same time in previous years. Thus why some areas feel it's okay to open up for business (with distancing), and other people think it's absolute craziness. Depends where you are, and what the local circumstances are.

The question is will you "live it up" in defiance of State Orders or in accordance with State Orders :P (cross-threading LOL).

It is clear many on this forum plan to "live it up" ASAP LOL, but there are a lot that will permanently change what they spend money on too..age demographics probably comes into play as well..

I will live it up at whichever park as soon as the park opens. It's true I also think under-50's need to get immunity asap. Over-50's stay home. For now.

Especially so if KI only allows Ohio residents:P

In all seriousness though, it will be interesting to see which entertainment venues are able to open and stay open. not because of the virus threat, but because spending habits will change.  I think many people have used this time to re-evaluate what they have been spending their money on.  I know I have and I know my spending habits will be different once "normal" happens.  I think I can wait for a movie to hit some streaming service as an example.  Some may have realized they really don't watch much TV, even during this stay-home order, and cut the cord.  Of course some people will pickup right where they left off, but I do think many will have a change in fun.

I can only speak to my situation, which is we are barely spending compared to usual except for what we have to. At the same time we cannot wait for things to return to normal. And when things do return to normal, we are living it up. I completely understand it might take awhile for everyone else to "live it up". But...I think a lot of folks will be, too!

I'm a ride op at the park. Ask only questions that are not about new things or when we are opening or whats leaving. But if it is a question you think we can answer then ask away.

What are the instructions from the park regarding Fast Lane people vs. general admission. I know there has to be some very clear orders from above...what are those instructions?

  15. I live really close to Indiana Beach, but have only been there a few times, sadly. This year we bought 4 season passes for the first time ever, only to be massively disappointed with all the news of park closure. Finally, some great news! On the back of this whole Covid-19 thing I hope local entities like Indiana Beach get tons of visitors. We can't wait to get to Kings Island, but after staying home endlessly, I think some people might find you don't have to travel hours from home to find a really good time.

The United States is currently running a fatality rate of 5.6%, 837k cases, 47k dead, and 76k confirmed recovered.  The fatality rate is likely high but all three numbers are low, for instance more and more evidence is showing that just about every country is under counting the deaths.  28,000 missing deaths, plus we have the issue with the fact that not every confirmed case has recovered.  People who are not sick enough to get tested or have seemingly no symptoms is throwing off the number of confirmed cases, and the number of people who recovered at home is also not included in those figures.

Getting accurate numbers in the middle of an outbreak like this is difficult.  But we already know this is a multitude more deadly than the flu.  Even cutting the fatality rate in half to 2.8% we are left with a figure that is 28x higher then the flu which only kills around 0.1% of the people who become infected.

Your figures ignore the fact that studies have already been carried out suggesting our actual number of cases have been between 50-80 times higher than the actual number that have been tested positive. So the death rate is presumed even by scientists to be way, way below 2.8%.

As of today, there are 37, 055 Americans who would probably disagree.

That's roughly the number of fatalities via car crashes in the USA every year. I hope you don't dare get in a vehicle! Unacceptable. (we can do this all night)

Look, Covid-19 sucks. I know we all agree on that. Let's leave it there, and move on.

This will be the most negative thing that I have ever posted on this board...but here goes...I can't tell you how much it bothers me to see people toss around what they feel is an acceptable fatality rate. These are people's lives we are talking about. Even if the death rate is 1 in 10,000...who wants to pick either themselves or one of their family members to be that 1? Whenever I read that there is an "acceptable death rate" it reminds of wartime when the "powers that be" decide what is an acceptable number of soldiers to sacrifice to accomplish something...all the while they themselves are nice and safe. To anyone who feels that there is an acceptable death rate I say, "Here, you first". (Mods feel free to delete this if you want...it's just something that I have wanted to say for awhile and I finally reached my breaking point.)

That's good sentiment and all, but  we all make decisions about acceptable death rates every day of our lives. I'm sure someone has died over the years driving to and from Kings Island. Of course, some have died in the park itself. Should we shut the park down forever? It'll probably "save lives" statistically speaking, but of course we should not nor will we shut the park down. The fatality rate is indeed "acceptable".

This entire topic varies widely based purely on who you are talking to. I know younger folks who can work at home that are scared to death of things "opening up". I know many middle-age (my age) who need to work or risk losing everything. Some older folks are fine with staying home. Some are not. Some miss being close to their loved ones. They know their time is limited anyway, and this is just stealing more of their time. It just depends who you talk to.
