I was a member of PKIU for a couple of months until I found out how rude %50 of the people over there are!  Then I found out about this site and I knew I had a new home.

:offtopic: I AGREE! whole heartly I left PKIU because they were down right snotty and rude!

back on topic this SUCKS! now where will I go to campout at? Ahh o well I guess Paramount doesnt need my money I will go camp out at Disney.

What they really need instead of an expensive lodge is a Hotel. I would like to see something like the Hotel Breakers at Cedar Point. The prices are reasonable, especially if you go for a package deal.

And, about PKIU, I am a member there as well. Yeah, there are some rude people over there, but you just have to give it back to them.

I guess Park Mgmt does not care.

I wrote a letter and filled out a customer report at PKI. They did not tell me the truth last year when I bought my season pass, they insured me the campground would be open for the entire season. They lied and since the campground closes in a few weeks I will not be enjoying fearfest.

They have not called written or even attempted a reply. It is very disappointing and very unprofessional for the park.

I guess they do not care about the concerns of a long time season pass holding family.

I heard a rumor from a reliable source that an article about this issue will be in tomorrow's Mason Community Press - and that our very own Dan Waggs AND Mrs. G have quotes in the article. We'll have to wait and see.

Have a great day!

Thanks for posting the story, Chef.

With a closing date of 10/31 it looks as though the campground will last through the current season. So, people who consider the campground as a factor in their decision to buy a season pass will be well aware of its status going into 2005.

There was one line from the story I found interesting:

"The two parties are discussing building a new campground to replace the current one."

I wonder if Great Lakes will have some hand in the development of a new campground? Sort of an extension of the "national park" lodge theme? From what I've seen, Great Lakes produces a quality product...if they would team up with Paramount Park's design group on a lodge/campground project the result could be incredible.

I was talking to someone over the weekend that's planning a conference at the Great Wolf in Sandusky this November. She was unaware of the plans at PKI, and was really excited about the prospect for planning future meetings.

I really do believe that this project shows real promise...

Hi, friends.

As you can see from the Italian Chef's article, Paramount's Kings Island is still in negotiations with the Great Wolf Lodge. Nothing has been signed or finalized at this point.

Our management team realizes the esteem in which the campground is held, and we want to provide the best possible experience for our guests each day. IF the new resort is built, it will offer on-site accommodations, something guests have been wanting for a while. In addition, it will provide a great opportunity for Mason-area tourism.

We're looking at the future of the campground as we speak. Believe me, we take our guests' comments seriously - we would be nothing without you guys!

I'll keep you posted if/when things progress!!

Have a great weekend!!! :D

well, reports lately have been that the Great Wolf Lodge company is lookign to build a major resort/indoor waterpark on the site of the cuurent campground.  speculation, or actually i guess its just suggestion has been to move the campground out towards boomerang bay somewhere so those of us regulars at the campground can still enjoy it.  i guess we will jus have to wait and see.

Im just saying, if this company is going to make a resort and a waterpark, there not going to make much cash. There place dirctly next to a world-famous amusment park.If they do go through with this.............may god have mercy on there soul................

I have to say this It been bugging me for a long time...I HATE how PKI is trying to became a Hollywoodized theme park like USF or IOA cant forget to metion Disney I dont like how they are wanting to attract more tourists I liked Kings Island when it was simple now there so much Hollywoodized theming its making me sick I think a hotel is a wrong move besides camping is a lotta fun.

Maureen

I am curious why PKI staff never called me back to at least wrote me back. Even if to say we have heard/read your complaint and we are investigating.

My major complaint was, I have been concerned for a while that PKI might close the campground because they definitely do not seem to be putting any money into the up keep, so I asked specifically if the campground would remain open for the entire season they insured me it would. Then when I was told the campground was closing early forever I asked at the guest service, they said basically fill out this form and the park mgmt will call you. They never did.

I am really glad to hear the campground is staying open for the season. At least the PKI is fulfilling it promise last year.

So any insight would be great.

As a journalist and author who has written extensively about Paramount's Kings Island, I am very familiar with how the park operates.

First off, Maureen would have no idea why your complaints were never answered because that isn't her department. Paramount's Kings Island employs thousands of people and they aren't all knowing of everything that happens at the park. Your complaints should have gone to Guest Services. I cannot tell you why they never contacted you because I don't know. You have the option of contacting them directly and asking your questions.

I can tell you that Maureen works in Marketing Communications. Therefore, her job is to interface with the media (such as yours truly) and park enthusiasts. She is in no way responsible for complaints and she doesn't wield the power to determine the future of the Kings Island Campground. As my article stated, negotiations are still taking place.

Maureen is an outstanding professional and working with her is a privilege. She is an asset to Paramount's Kings Island and deserves all of our respect. Her job didn't obligate her to post on this site, she did so out of the goodness of her heart and enthusiasm for the fans of PKI.

As far as the employee who told you that the Kings Island Campground would close early, there is a high probability that the employee was (1) seasonal and (2) mis-informed. Quite frankly, it would not be the first time in my life that I heard of a seasonal employee misunderstanding factual and stating erroneous park information. We're all human and we all make mistakes.

I hope that this clears everything up about Maureen's role. There is no doubt in my mind that as soon as Maureen learns about important information and is allowed to promulgate it on this site, she will. I hope that you will enjoy the rest of your summer.

Have a great day!

Chef-

I understand what you are saying. Sorry for the confusion.

However it was not seasonal employee it was the campground ground manager at least that was what she told me her title was. She would not take reservations for Oct because the campground was closing. Guest services confirmed what the campground said. I do not think it was a seasonal employee thing. Everyone that was working those three days said exactly the same thing. I came home after that weekend and opened this post to inform other because I had visited the site quite a few times and thought the visited would want to know about a dramatic change like that.

I plan to make Oct reservations just need to work on scheduling at this point.

I will not buy a season pass until they decide what is up with the campground.

Thanks, BB
