coaster lover Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 I was at the park today and the Son of Beast was closed all day. Quote
Skywriter Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 Didn't u hear there putting the loop back in. Quote
jondrewfoo Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 heh, ive heard its been closed ever since the 11th, i rode it on the tenth, on the first and only car before they shut it down for a while longer. it was on and off all that day. towards the end of the day it finally was running both trains minus one row of one car on the red train. sucsk for the people who are unable to ride it. i wonder why its been closed so long since then... coaster lover Posted July 14, 2007 Author Posted July 14, 2007 Didn't u hear there putting the loop back in. That would be the last thing they would do. Quote
italianchef Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 Perhaps SOB should be retired, removed, and replaced by a large steel coaster. Quote
Ki Man Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 It should be torn down, and the wood turned into paper and pencils for schools in Nicoragua. Quote
DropZone99 Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 Perhaps SOB should be retired, removed, and replaced by a large steel coaster. That won't be happening soon... Quote
Gordon Bombay Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 Perhaps SOB should be retired, removed, and replaced by a large steel coaster. No chef, the steel coaster is in the parking lot. Quote

gnarkiller Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 The Son Of The Beast is not getting the loop back in. Quote
WooferBearATL Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 SOB Closed? Nahhhh, I think that we were told in a prior post that "Open is Open." Quote
jzarley Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 I saw an old special on Discovery HD last night ("Top Ten Coasters 2002" or something like that...) that I had never seen before. I couldn't believe that they had SoB ranked as the #2 woodie! (The Beast, more fittingly, was #1) Jeff Siebert must have done some serious schmoozing to get them to list SoB at #2!! Quote
italianchef Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 The writing is on the wall. Tear SOB down. Quote
Guest kwindshawne Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 The writing is on the wall. Tear SOB down. I tend to agree-they have done all they can do..... Quote
cincyboy0830 Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 I agree. Tear the whole ride town and build more suburban McMansions that will eventually end up in foreclosure. *Yawn* Or set it on fire and collect the insurance money to build a Dippin' Dots factory. Quote
flightoffear1996 Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 A really nice coaster could go in the area where Son of Beast is. I smaller rocket coaster like the Storm Runner could go in very nicely there, or a steel hyper coaster would fit well in there too. The park just needs to face the facts and realiuze that Son of Beast was before its time. Quote
jondrewfoo Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 what is up with you guys, Son of Beast is a great ride! one of my favorites! they arent gonna tear it down anytime soon, unless it has another freak accident, or its maintenance becomes overwhelming like The Bat... its not that bad, they are prolly just getting it running tip top shape to make sure it will be running for years to come. its red car wasnt cooperative the last day it was open, the tenth, so id bet thats what it has to do with. corn4ahead Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 I was bummed... half the reason i went yesturday was to rise sonny to find out it was closed when i got there. Quote
jondrewfoo Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 yeah, that isnt too fun... sorry about your luck. anyone know if its open today? Quote
Hendrick Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 Perhaps SOB should be retired, removed, and replaced by a large steel coaster. If Son of Beast gets torn down, don't expect a new coaster in that area any time soon. The price for tearing down the largest wooden structure in the world could easily equal the price of a new coaster. Quote

KIfan73 Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 Is SOB really the largest wooden structure in the world? Quote
PKIVortex Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 Yes it is. It's 218 feet tall, the tallest wooden coaster ever built. Quote
KIfan73 Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 Largest wooden coaster, yes, but I was reading Hendrick's post about it being the world's largest wooden structure in the world. Quote
Hendrick Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 Largest wooden coaster, yes, but I was reading Hendrick's post about it being the world's largest wooden structure in the world. I'm next to positive it's the worlds largest structure. And I think what PKIVortex was saying is that since it is 208 feet tall, it uses a lot of wood, making it the largest wooden structure. Quote
KIfan73 Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 I'd never heard that it was, but it wouldn't surprise me. That is a bunch of wood! Just to stand back and look at that thing, its amazing. Quote
TQZ Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 You know, I rode it Wednesday, I believe the 11th. The Son of Beast now sucks. It is as bad as The Racers, and 3 times rougher than it was before its accident. Prior to the accident, I would say that The Beast was rougher than The Son of Beast. Not now, it is horrible. I used to be for keeping the Son of Beast, but for all it is worth now, I will now jump on the "tear it down" bandwagon. Horrible. Quote
Vortex Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 I rode Son of Beast last week and it was very smooth with a lot of air time. Has something gone wrong or is the park just retracking some small areas for a better ride. So is Son of Beast the new Bat? Quote
PKIVortex Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 Son of Beast is often called W.O.W (waste of wood). I think it's starting to live up to that name. It's just crazy, that it has been shut down for 2 days + just after it has reopened a week ago. Quote
