Nate
I have ridden Son of Beast at least 20 times since it's reopening. I have a couple tips hearing how much people seem to dislike it and are beat up by it. If you follow what I'm about to say I guarantee a smoother ride if you are even interested in trying it. 1. ALWAYS ride in the very front seat of the train. I rode in the front seat all but 1 time and loved it each time I did. The front seat seems exponentially smoother and more tolerable than the rest of the train. I rode in the rear half close to the center and was screaming in pain the whole time. I know now why people complain. Under NO circumstances ever ride in any other seat. I felt like my chest was going to explode when I rode that one time not in the front seat. 2. Always always ride the blue train. The red one seems much rougher. I rode them both in the same seat (Front one) and the blue feels much smoother. If you follow those easy steps I layed out you'll have an exponentially better ride. Unfortunately it's very unrealistic for only the front seat of the blue train to be smooth and enjoyable on a roller coaster with many rows. I enjoyed the front of the blue train because you're literally going at 85mph on a silk smooth train. It became my favorite ride in the park but ONLY because I rode it how I did. If I had ridden anywhere else in the train, I would have been hurt the 1st time and never ridden it again. Those are my 2 cents as experience as a park guest! Not trying to excuse the ride, but if you're interested give it a shot!
beastfan11
Agreed. Go for the front seat. The Smoothest by far.
SOB_TOM
But ask yourself this question: WHY should you need tips in order to ride a ride?
hausty1983
I will give it a try and just one thing you were feeling like me when you said you felt like your chest was going to explode sitting elsewhere because I did feel like that sitting in the second to last car on the blue train. Nate
But ask yourself this question: WHY should you need tips in order to ride a ride? Very true! Exactly why I stated that "I'm not trying to excuse the ride" However, if you do follow those tips you can make the best of the situation and turn a painful experience into an adreneline filled rush of speed. I can sort of prove my theory beyond what a previous poster said. I went to KI yesterday with my friend who, when I started to lead him onto S.O.B. was very scared and said he didn't want to ride and get battered. I assured him he'd be alright (He's 6 foot 3 by the way and very able to ride anything) He agreed and was very suprised and started having a great time. Without my hyping up the ride at all even though it's now my personal favorite, he said his favorite ride in the park was now S.O.B. We rode it 8 times. markr
How can a roller coaster economically succeed if only the front seat provides a proper ride?
Cody
LOL very back for the win! Very back each time! loves it
Nate
How can a roller coaster economically succeed if only the front seat provides a proper ride? Yet again, very true. Why I said that it's still very unrealistic to only have tolerable front seats in a 12(?) row train. lol Be glad you know at least. If I had ridden all 20+ times anywhere else... mannnn... Ki Man
I agree about the Front Seat, but not about the Red Train. I have rode in both but think the same. The wheels can wear low and need changed frequntly. Next time you ride you can say the same about the red train.
Cody
Is it a fact that it is smoooooothe!?!?? prove it?
Nate
Hmm. never thought of that. Each time I rode the blue one though it was consistently smoother. The red one felt like it had a square wheel or something with more bouncing even in front. Ohh, and if you wand proof go ride it and feel the proof. Or take the word of other posters. Lol or consider that I'm not a human vegetable after 20+ rides.
TOPGUN1993
I like the red train more than the blue

Nate
its a 214ft foot drop on to wood, duh its gona be jerky. It isnt gona be a nice stroll threw the park you probably have an exceptional tolerance for rough rides considering the responses of many many others in S.O.B. topics. It seems that for most a fine line does exist.

SOB_TOM
I said it from the outset: There is no reason that you HAVE to ride a ride defensively. A ride like that deserves a match if its wood, molten lava if its steel.

A ride like that deserves a match if its wood, molten lava if its steel. I couldn't disagree more! What about Racer, The Beast?? Ready to give them the match huh? You better start running when Don Helbig comes after you Although Im with you, if you want to torch the Georgia Cyclone! [i am currently running for my life because The Interpreter is chacing me with a chain saw, lol] On a side note Tips are never *needed* but quite welcome to get the most fantastic superb ride youve ever had on a coaster! SOB_TOM
I dont ride defensively on Beast, Racer, or any other woodie that I have ridden. Granted, I dont have much on the woodie side, but SOB is the only one that I have ever ridden defensively.
The Interpreter
...Although Im with you, if you want to torch the Georgia Cyclone! [i am currently running for my life because The Interpreter is chacing me with a chain saw, lol].... Nah, Mr. Cory. See that nice little Goliath over there? It's calling you. Go ride it...while we ride THE Georgia Cyclone! As for Son of Beast, my mama taught me if you can't say anything....
Cory Butcher
haha, I would very much like to ride Goliath, I havent as of yet! lol But dont worry although I found THE Georgia Cyclone to be fairly rough, it does have its fans, and I respect that, and would eventually like to ride it again if ever I have the chance! Nate
Wow, just started college and havent' been able to post in a while. The roughest most painful seat is probably the middle-back of the train in the rear seat of the car on the RED train. good luck! I've had to for the record ride The Racer and any other car of S.O.B. Defensivly.
