I was wandering if TG ever uses the old queue under the station? Like on very busy days??? I don't think it's been used for a while... i saw a park map from the 90's there...

They haven't for several years now. It's never open even on busy days. I think the reason they cited as to why it didn't open was staffing issues. Now that area is in disrepair. Really a shame too. It was neat.

The area was cool back in the day when everything worked down there. Fog, among other things. It was kinda freaky though walking on the steel grating they had as a walkway, you could look down and see the ground.

^Great theming? There are like...two flags hanging up....and in HORRIBLE condition. TG needs some attention, and I'd like to see alot of rides/coasters getting new paint/worked on for the '08 season.

Tsk tsk tsk... Yet another sad person apart of this strange world we like to call Kings Island perpatrators. i for one think it would add a very nice effect to the ride and for one it should be in horrible condition, why bother to fix it up if it is not in use. I would like to see the old red color back though.

And what`s that supposed to mean? Not everything at Cedar Point is red. Look at Wicked Twister, or Millenium Force. (Although Millenium does have a lot of red used in its station if my memory serves me correct.)

No, not everything.

Just 5 out of 17 coasters. Practically 30%.

4 of 9 new coasters in the past 18 years, plus one new paint scheme.

What was the color scheme chosen for Firehawk?

If Crayola only used one color for 30% of their product, there would be no need for those really cool boxes with the shapener in the back!

Point is, they REALLY like shades of red.

Kind of like thier infatuation with "M" roller coasters.

... or garbage cans.

;)

That's where you're wrong, sir. If Crayola were responsible for coloring the coasters Firehawk would be red brick crayon and several of CP's coasters would be fire engine red.

Just wondering, does anyone have any pictures of the TG line when it was working? I was there when it was working but I was too young to remember anything.

You may never have gotten the chance to go down there but there was some great themeing down there. There are about 5 large display areas with roll up doors on them. Two of which held missiles, one of a cockpit, another of a controll area on a carrier, I think another had several model planes in it. It was a pretty cool place. There were many flags of squads and such, and all sorts of military themeing. Not to mention fog everywhere. The fog in the station was activated by the dispatch buttons. Sometimes operators would just keep holding the buttons to fill the station with fog.

Unfortunately much of the themeing is a mess or removed. When I worked the ride in 2004 there was still a missile or two down in the display cases and another that we kept upstairs in the closet  . It would take a lot of work to get all the lights and everything working down there, especially all the details in the cockpit areas and such. There were mock radars and all sorts of things. Oh well, once that little cut-off bridge was put in the area was never used again.

^^ There really was not much too it.

A couple of computer banks with flashing lights, some flags, a couple of fake missles (which went well with the computer banks), some control panals etc.

ahh.... remember the spinning radar next to the queue line before going down the steps?

and the yellow and black speakers along the queue which looped the "top gun" soundtrack?

if i remember correctly, the "top gun" movie posters are still being shown along in the queue line, faded though... but for being 10+ years old, they've held up pretty nicely.

They still loop the soundtrack (only in the station building.) Which I hope (even if the ride changes names) stays like that, because I have such a soft spot for that soundtrack of 80s goodness.

Don't forget Raptor.

Still red is used on their rides more than any other color. Top Thrill Dragster, Iron Dragon, Magnum, and Maverick, and the center of Mantis's track. Thats a lot of red coasters about 25%.
