skjackson
This was by far the worst visit I have ever had at King's Island. Let me start by stating that King's Island has always been one of my favorite parks. I am not bashing the park or the event. I just think it has a lot more potential. First of all, we had to wait 20 minutes longer to get into the Fright Feast because the sign telling where to wait was put on the wrong side of the restaurant. We even asked two different employees, including one at Guest Relations, and that is where they told us to wait. When we finally figured out where to go for the meal, we all went in the re-entry turnstall. No one bothered to check our hand stamps. There were 10 or so people behind us who also went in. We don't even know if they had paid for the meal or were just going in. They may not have paid to get in at all. We got walked back to Club Blood. It was not bad, but not fantastic. By the time we got out of Club Blood, the lines were backed up on the other mazes beyond belief. It wasn't even dark yet. By the time it got dark outside, you could not even walk comfortably through the midways. *** I knew it would be crazy crowded. I did not expect the crowds to be anywhere near this large, even this close to Halloween. My biggest problem with the whole event was the lack of organization. I do realize that this was the first year for Halloween Haunt at King's Island, but I hope they can learn from the problems that were apparent. The lines need to be set up with longer temporary cue areas. I have been to Halloween Haunt at Knott's Berry Farm 5 times. Knott's has employees who stand at the end of the line, wherever it may happen to be, and hold up a huge sign showing that they are standing at the end of the line and the sign will show which maze/attraction the line is for. Also at Knott's, you NEVER EVER have to wait for a WALK THROUGH scare zone. I believe that is why they call them scare zones. People should just flow through these haunted areas. If you are that scared, don't go through them. I don't think people should be sent through these in groups. It just hold up the lines. I hate to compare it to Knott's again, but they have been doing it for 35 years and they keep the people moving. Basically, I can't even begin to describe how long the Corn Stalkers line got on Saturday night. I know that people were standing still, stalled in the line to get in, for quite some time before they were let in. I don't understand why people can't just walk through. I think the capacity needs to be controlled. Maybe they could sell less tickets. I understand it's all about money, but there are limits. Maybe after a few years, King's Island will get everything fine tuned. I really hope they do, but I think they should have waited a little while longer to call it "Halloween Haunt". I would not even begin to compare this event to the annual event at Knott's Berry Farm. I do realize that Knott's has been doing "Haunt" for 35 years, but I hope the ideas and tricks will transfer over to King's Island in the future. I strongly urge everyone to visit Halloween Haunt at Knott's Berry Farm if you ever get the chance. In a nutshell, we drove 6 hours to go to the all new Halloween Haunt, we got the runaround at the Fright Feast, and we only got to do 2 Halloween attractions. I was very disappointed by the event, but the park looked immaculate.
CoastersNSich
I went to the park yesterday, too, but for the "day part," from noon until 7, right as Halloween Haunt was getting underway. It could be a combination of my distaste for gratuitous blood and gore, and also of long lines. The crowds are exactly why they are charging separate admission for the Haunt next year, and not including it with season passes.

I am not a stupid person. If you don't think they could have controlled telling me where to stand to be let in to the Fright Feast, I am really confused. There was a sign that said to wait right there for the dinner. It just happened to be on the complete wrong side of the restaurant. I guess that is totally my fault? Someone who worked there should have known this and directed us to the proper side. Also, I don't suppose you think they could have "controlled" directing me to the Gold Pass parking when I paid for "preferred" parking. Just so you know, the Gold Pass parking is further out than the preferred parking. There is absolutely no excuse for the parking lot attendant that works there to direct me to a lot that is further out, when there were plenty of spots in the lot that we paid for. I have been going to King's Island since Taft owned it in the 70s. I was just stating that I had a bad trip. These 2 things, if nothing else, could have been controlled. Please don't think I am ignorant about events at Theme Parks. I am asked annually to submit a ballot to Amusement Today's Golden Ticket Awards. What this means to most people is that I am considered an expert on most aspects of theme park operations. It also means that I get to vote on best rides, staff, and events at parks for each year. What I expected is something that truly lived up to the name "Halloween Haunt". I have been to "Halloween Haunt" at Knott's Berry Farm on SOLD OUT nights on more than one occasion. I was able to do all the mazes each time I went to their event. They have more mazes than King's Island. The main reason is the way they control the crowd. I would love for someone to explain to me how I can do all the mazes at Knott's, but only 2 at King's Island. I fully expected it to be busy, but Knott's has it down to an art. I have already stated that the event has great potential, I just think it may take some time to get things flowing smoothly.
Cody
:| saturday was OK not really a great time, First thing I did was bought my ticket for Sling Shot. I got it for 15 =( Lets just say the whole family was running an hour late; didnt get to the park til 1:15. OK then I went to ride top gun, it was alright ,the line was confusing for people to find lol. Then i decided to ride Son of Beast...Now called son of ferby; It was boring, miss the loop, miss the jerkyness. LOL while standing in line I heard some guy yelling, wheres the loop. While I was rideing it, we hit the brake run before the loop part and i yelled LOOP time...O wait they took it out!. Well got off that ride. Then we hit up Delirium. nice little 45min wait. Well we rode, awsome ride as always, At the end the floors wouldnt come up, O boy again? so we waited. I was bored. then they got them to come up, so after that we headed too la rosa pizza!! yummy as always. we sat and talk then started makeing our way to The Racers we rode backwards aslways!! then we headed to drop zone! I reconmend sitting in seats 2 - 10 , best view ever. It was fuN! then after that we headed to vikking ship, that was funny we messed with the guest saying we felt like pukeing lol. after that, i went to ride my Sling Shot! it was fun! I tryed to flip it as much as i can! i think i flipped it over 20 times. After that it was around 6:30. we started headed towards Vortex, nice little hour wait. it was fun! love rideing it at dusk. then Went to The Beast. the line was huge! so we wait waited waited waited. we got in line around 7:30, we got on the ride at 9:00. it was fun in pitch black dark! After we got off. I couldnt beleive the park! it was packed! we couldnt even move threw it! so we just decided to leave. Over all it was an ok day. Just too packed. whatever
If you think that was bad, you haven't seen bad. I went to Six Flags Great America yesterday and they are truly bad at planning. We waited 45 minutes to get in the parking lot. Another 10 minutes to get past security. The only good thing about the day was that Deja'Vu was working all day! Other than that, it was horrible. We got in line for raging bull at 2:30 and didn't get on until 4:45. Even though they were moving people pretty fast, it was nowhere near that rides potential. Then we wanted something to eat. All of the food places were PACKED. We waited 45 minutes for less than enjoyable food and a not so enjoyable encounter with the staff. Not to mention the prices! These prices seem so much higher than KI's even! They for a slice of pizza it is $8.00. That is CRAZY! We then waited for Viper, which had an hour and a half wait, and a staff system that didn't makes sence! They had two people working the platform, checking seats, and a person putting people in the gates. They should have had a person driving and the other two checking the lap bars, it would have moved so much faster! Then we walked to Batman, which had no sign of where to enter!? The usual entrance was blocked and we couldn't figure out where to get in! So, we skipped it and tried to get on Iron Wolf, it was a 2-hour wait, it was already 9:00 and the park closes at 10:00, so we just rode the swings and the carousel and left... It was not a good experience! The paths were so crowed at one point a fire truck tried to get to some ride because there was an accident and the crowed wanted to move, but there was no where to go. It took the fire truck 10 minutes ten minutes to move maybe 20 feet! That is clearly a safety concern... if they can't get a Fire truck to an emergency in an adequate amount of time; there are obviously too many people in the park. The bathrooms were trashed, the trash cans were overflowing, and the staff was less than prepared for the event. No wonder Six Flags is bankrupt! They really need to work on their parks; otherwise they won’t be around for much longer! I will be surprised if I go to SFGA again!

italianchef
I visited the park on Friday night and wasn't pleased with the crowds either. Hence, I am one of the few people PLEASED that KI will charge separate admission next year. It means that season pass holders like me, will HOPEFULLY experience fewer lines and less crowds. PKIVortex
I was at the park today, and today was a great day, crowed wise, and weather wise. Sundays are definitely the best days to visit, if all you want to do is ride rides.

Shman
I would love for someone to explain to me how I can do all the mazes at Knott's, but only 2 at King's Island. Because they charge a seperate admission charge to the event....which means that they wont have 40,000 people in the park on any night . Obviously less people = shorter lines = more time to do the attractions. Thats not really the fault of the park. After all...Kings Island wanted to charge seperate admission this year, but gave in to all the whiny season pass holders and other GP who complained about the possibility of being charged for it. standbyme
Hi, Thanks for posting. I am going this weekend and have tickets to the Fright Feast. Could you tell me where you DO stand to go in. (If you are IN the park looking OUT towards the parking lot is it the usual entrance on the right...nearest to the line where you get your hand stamped to go out?) I am sorry that you got "jumped on" for your post. A lot of people seem to be a little testy with negative comments around here lately...maybe it's the thought of the season coming to an end?! I understand you adding your Golden Ticket comment to just give a little insight that you do know what an amusement park is supposed to be like. I did not find it egotistical to mention. If people don't think that the Golden Tickets awards are anything it's funny that a LOT of people go out of their way to brag when Kings Island wins one. Thanks again. WHODEY2007
I think everyone on here has been saying, "If you don't like crowds, don't go on Saturday." I am sorry you didn't have the best time ever SKJackson, but I do not think that comparing KI to Knott's is very fair since they have been doing Halloween events for as long as KI has been open. To try to make KI into Knott's overnight would be insane. Take KI for what it's worth because it is trying to catch up. I am sorry you drove 6 hours to KI for only two haunts, but if you are posting on here, the chances are likely that you knew it was going to be crowded on a Saturday. Don't get so upset when you come onto a KI website, bash a thing going on at the park, and then get a ton of crap from the posters on it. That is sort of like going on a Michigan website as an Ohio State fan, telling them Michigan stinks, and then think the posters on there will completely agree with your point of view. That is great that you are a Golden Ticket voter, but the way you used it in your posting makes it seem like you are using it to belittle other posters in here, even if that was not your intent. Though some folks in here may not have the knowledge you have, don't make general statements about the posters in here. There is no good that can come from that. I hope you do come back to KI sometime and have a better experience.
King Maple The Tree King
Please don't think I am ignorant about events at Theme Parks. I am asked annually to submit a ballot to Amusement Today's Golden Ticket Awards. What this means to most people is that I am considered an expert on most aspects of theme park operations. It also means that I get to vote on best rides, staff, and events at parks for each year. Sorry but, HAHAHAHAHA! With how valid the Golden Tickets are nowadays, I'm really not sure you should admit that. It's embarressing. I just love the people that pat themselves on the back and claim to be "experts". Honestly though, why would you even say that? If you were that knowledgable of an expert, your expertise & knowledge would show through your posts, not because you are patting yourself on the back because you vote in a very tainted award. First of all, I'm astounded that most of you don't think a Golden Ticket as something found in a WONKA bar. I am really proud of you all for that. This forum is way more tainted than those awards will ever be. I was just trying to prove that I am not some 19 year old junkie who lives through a computer and does not know what they are talking about. I have been visiting the park for over 30 years, but SOMEONE would have had a problem with that too. HERE IS THE BEST PART OF MY POST AND I STRONGLY URGE EVERYONE TO TAKE IT WITH A GRAIN OF SALT. *****THE BEST THING I SAW AT THE Halloween Haunt WERE THE TOMBSTONES WITH KINZEL AND FALFAS ON THE FRONT THEM, BECAUSE THEY TEND TO KILL EVERY PARK THAT Cedar Fair TAKES OVER. FOR THIS ONE REASON, I'LL CONSIDER VOTING FOR KI FOR BEST HALLOWEEN EVENT NEXT YEAR. IT IS, BY FAR, THE BEST PROP I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE.***** R.I.P. GEAUGA LAKE I'M THROUGH NOW. GET OVER YOURSELVES!!!!!! It's not really your fault, a lot of the people on here just can't accpet any criticism of the park or the almighty Cedar Fair. Who cares if this guy votes for amusent today, he obviously knows something about the industry and has something to do with it if hes actualy being given a ballot. I wouldn't really say hes showing off anymore than say Uncle Henry who feels the need to announce his "return" and "exodus" from KICentral cause he think's he's really that important around here. After all...Kings Island wanted to charge seperate admission this year, but gave in to all the whiny season pass holders and other GP who complained about the possibility of being charged for it. Well when the park advertised Fear Fest as included with park admission all year long, then wanted to charge for it what do you expect. "Ah, sorry ma'am, I know you drove all this way but we said Fearfest was included with park admission and your season pass, not Halloween Haunt". That would've gone over great at Guest Relations. If they wanted to charge for it at the last minute they would've had to really push to get the word out there about it, but they cant even put the mature audience warnings on the tv ads, radio ads, or billboards so promoting an upcharge probably would have been a problem, and in all honesty, i ask you: What is there to upcharge for? I'm a fan of haunt this year, i think the entertainment department did a good job, but its not much different from Fearfest last year. They added a very good show that pushes the limit a bit more but other than that and Club Blood theres nothing else that puts it anywhere close to what Knott's does or seperates it much from Fear Fest last year. I would pay to have shorter crowds, but seriously, based ont he event alone, not much different than FearFest.
Gordon Bombay
First of all, we had to wait 20 minutes longer to get into the Fright Feast because the sign telling where to wait was put on the wrong side of the restaurant. We even asked two different employees, including one at Guest Relations, and that is where they told us to wait. When we finally figured out where to go for the meal, we all went in the re-entry turnstall. Well said standbyeme. skjackson, if you don't mind me asking; why exactly do you get a Golden Ticket vote? What is your role in the industry? I dont really see how mentioning the Golden Ticket thing is wrong or how the Golden Ticket thing has become a joke, no one seems to be saying that when KI whens best kids area every year and no one else on here seems to be involved in the industry enough to get a vote. So jackson, maybe some of these people would be a little more understanding if you described what you do in the industry to get a vote. skjackson
I came back to the forums because this is by far the most hilarious post ever. Oh yes, Kinzel and Falfas killed Geauga Lake. Who cares if it was a failing park before they even got it. Let's all just blame them! You have no idea how much I'm smiling right now. This post seriously made my day. Oh, and I'm gone again. Back to the mystery known as a real life. I never said they killed Geauga Lake. I said "R.I.P. Geauga Lake". They tend to take a lot of personality out of the parks. I have seen what they have done to Knott's Berry Farm over the last several years. A lot of the old charm is gone. They have added some good rides, but the Knott family was responsible for adding Ghost Rider. Knott's Berry Farm has become almost unrecognizable in the years since Cedar Fair has taken over. I realize that a lot of people just don't care about the actual park-some people just want the rides. Luckily, this is where Cedar Fair thrives. I hope that King's Island can retain its charm for many years to come. As for Geauga Lake, it may have been a failing park, but I don't think removing rides during their first year of ownership was a sign that Cedar Fair was interested in turning it around. I don't think it is good to shut down any park that has been around as long as Geauga Lake was around. At least it had a good run. I am so glad that you find my love for amusement parks and their history humorous. Now we're both smiling.

If you are inside the park, you will need to go to the right of the line where they stamp your hand for re-entry. They had a sign on the outside of the park by the restaurant, but you cannot enter there. The Golden Ticket ballots are sent out to people in the amusement industry and also to certain members of amusement clubs. It depends on your rank or how long you have been a member of one of these clubs. I don't want to get "jumped on" again, so I'll just leave it at that. Gordon Bombay
What rides did Cedar Fair remove the first year they owned GL? I'm not sure what rides they closed or if they did, but they did do away with the animals and wild life attraction.
