January 22, 200818 yr Wasn't Cincinnati going to get the high speed rail also? I will have to ask my dad he help work on the project back in the 2000.
January 22, 200818 yr Back when Paul Brown Stadium was being built there was an idea for a light rail, above ground, train line that would run around Cincinnati/Newport/and eventually out to Kings Island/Kings Mills depending on how tourist destinations developed. The plans for this were canceled and I believe are being reviewed as part of the Banks project. In 2002 Cincinnati had on their ballots a plan to approve a light rail system around the University of Cincinnati that would eventually span out around downtown/uptown, then in another phase around sections of I-275, then in a third phase, a rail line out along I-71 to Kings Mills/Mason. Even the first phase of this was defeated horribly on the ballot.
January 22, 200818 yr The Cincinnati Subway was partially built in 1920-1925. Then funds ran out and the construction on the subway was halted. The tunnels that were built still remain and are maintained by the city. Currently, one of the tunnels is home to a large water main. For more information on the subway, head over to this page on Cincinnati Transit.net. The Cincinnati Transit website is a really nice and informative website for anyone curious about the history of major interstates, roads, bridges and transportation infrastructure in the Cincinnati area.
January 22, 200818 yr Did you not even visit the site Cincinnati Transit site that I linked to? That website has all you could possibly want to know about the long failed Cincinnati subway project.
