PKIVortex
I guess Cedar Fair decided to change the name of Flight Deck once again, at least at CGA. Check this out. http://www.cagreatamerica.com/attractions/...il.cfm?ai_id=48 I wonder if the rest of the Flight Deck names will also become Afterburn? KIBeast
That would be a better choice for a name. Afterburner...oh wait...I think I played that game on the Sega Genesis. Great game!
teenageninja
For the love of god, I hope so. Flight Deck is almost as bad as Suspended Roller Coaster-1 in RCT. Afterburn is a much better, and stronger name.
PKIVortex
And fits with the whole Fighter Jet theme. I guess we shall find out soon enough, if the rest of the names will change. I don't know what they were thinking with Flight Deck anyway.
Captain Picard
They was thinking Naval Aircraft Carrier flight deck. http://www.exlinedesign.com/entertainment/...ride/topgun.htm
Gordon Bombay
^Thanks for posting that, that is awesome. Does anyone know if the PGA theming deteriorated as bad as Kings Island's. Note that in that article there is no such thing as the F-14 Phantom, its the F-14 Tomcat that was featured in the film and at the time was the Navy's primary fighter aircraft. Them saying the "Phantom" twice makes me wonder if they really though the movie feature F-4 Phantom's considering Kings Island's Top Gun has that big image of an F-4 Phantom behind its station. (In the billboard before the queue line they have F-15 Eagles flying above an aircraft carrier, the F-15 Eagle was primarily used by the Air Force and the carrier variant version never made it past the design phases. CoasterXtreme
I like the name better than Flight Deck
PKIVortex
And now CGA's site says Flight Deck again? I'm confused. http://www.cagreatamerica.com/attractions/...ory.cfm?ac_id=
Gordon Bombay
Notice they still have Survivor the ride....I wonder why the name of that didn't change and if the ride is still interactive and relative to the t.v. show.
cholderfield
thats really strange how it's switched back and forth like that...
THE_BEASTmaster
Maybe someone hacked into the website somehow and changed the name and Cedar Fair caught it and switched it back.
Browntggrr
^ Yeah, you are probably correct. Only a loser enthusiast would think about hacking a website just to change the name of a ride. Afterburner is a decent name. But "The All American Coaster"? I am having a hard time associating the two. "All American Coaster" sounds like that reject from the movie "Sky High". PKIVortex
Or maybe they wanted to change the name to Afterburn but maybe they already park maps, t-shirts, and ride signage already made up for Flight Deck, so instead of having to re do everything and waste money, they decided the quick and easy fix would be just rename it back to Flight Deck? I have no idea, just a thought.
Jasper
I really wish they would change Top Gun errrr..... Flight Deck to afterburner i think that would fit much better.
The Interpreter
I have not seen the name Afterburner listed anywhere for that ride. The name on the website was Afterburn. No "er."
PKIVortex
I e-mailed CGA and asked why the change in the name again. Here is there reply. Thank you for your interest in California's Great America. The name change from Flight Deck to Afterburn on our web site was a mishaps by our web designer. The ride name Afterburn is the new name for Carowinds ' Top Gun. At all the other Top Gun parks the name will be changing to Flight Deck. We hope this information helps you and we hope to entertain you in near future. Sincerely, California's Great America Guest Response
The Interpreter
and THEIR website still says . . . Flight Deck.
PKIVortex
Yeah makes my head hurt even more.
RingMaster
.....so why does ONE park get a different name for Top Gun, while the others stick with the same Flight Deck name? If it's to make clone-ish type rides seem different from one park to the next, then they need to rename at least ONE more Top Gun from Flight Deck to something else. Which doesn't make sense, because, as of now, there are three Backlot Stunt Coasters and two Crypts in the ex-Paramount Parks.

Sincerely, California's Great America Guest Response Meanwhile, they tell ThrillNetwork.com another version: ....Jim understood the confusion surrounding the renaming of Top Gun, but told reporter Kyle L that the park had chosen to stick with "Flight Deck" from day one. The Flight Deck/Afterburn confusion is a result of other parks trying to decide what to name their coasters previously named "Top Gun".
