Skyscraper to spin at Cedar Point's Challenge Park

News Release 2/12/08

SANDUSKY, Ohio – Just when you thought that they couldn’t possibly add any more thrills and wild rides to the shores of Lake Erie, Cedar Point amusement park/resort has announced that Skyscraper, a towering thrill ride, will debut this summer in the Challenge Park activity complex.

Skyscraper will be unlike any ride you have ever experienced on the Cedar Point Peninsula. Featuring a giant propeller consisting of two arms that will spin guests in a full circle, Skyscraper is one of the most thrilling rides in the amusement industry.

Four riders, two on each arm, will sit in open cars with their feet dangling, on opposite ends of the propeller. The arms of the propeller quickly rotate in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction, spinning riders 16 stories into the air at speeds of up to 55 mph. At its highest point, riders will be upside down 160 feet above the ground!

The hair-raising ride lasts approximately two minutes. Onlookers can take part in the fun by watching a live streaming video of the passengers screaming in delight as they soar through the air. Riders aboard Skyscraper will have the opportunity to purchase this memorable video after completing their thrilling ride.

Manufactured by Gravity Works, Inc., Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, Skyscraper will welcome its first passengers when it opens to the public in May. Skyscraper will have an individual ride fee, and admission to Cedar Point will not be required.

“We are very excited about introducing a ride of this caliber to Challenge Park,” said Bill Spehn, vice president of park operations for Cedar Point. “Skyscraper will be a great addition to the thrilling rides and experiences that we offer our guests this summer.”

Located between Cedar Point and Soak City, Challenge Park also features the RipCord Skycoaster, two high-speed go-kart tracks and two challenging 18-hole miniature golf courses. Challenge Park is open to the public, and admission to Cedar Point or Soak City is not required. Each attraction requires a separate fee. Special combo packages that include discounted tickets for the attractions at Challenge Park will be available this summer.

Quote from http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/04/04/...n2645583.shtml:

"Screaming is a staccato, sharp sound that immediately puts you on alert," neighbor Mike Bayless told CBS News correspondent John Blackstone.

I think Mr. Bayless needs to look up the meaning of staccato. Most screams I've ever heard on rides are definitely legato! Sorry, that's just the musician in me... B)

Wow, that looks intense. I'm enough of a wreck on ferris wheels, I can't imagine this. But I would do it anyway. I'm very complex like that.

The Skyscraper is a great ride. I have been on one twice. Very intense ride and the restraint system gives a very free and unrestricted feeling.

Negative side, Im not a fan of Challanger Park because you have to exit the park to access the upcharge attractions. Personally think sprinkling them around the park is much better. How many times do you stop and watch SlingShot or Xtreme Skyflier? Would love to see a Skyscraper where the Eurobungee or the old Laser tag building stand. Although I would still like to see a Jump2 sitting on the Eurobungee pad...

CP is lucky... no, spoiled!

Can you please explain how CP is spoiled.

I didn't entirely mean it, but CP just gets cool stuff every year, and we don't get much cool stuff every year...

The reason why CP does get upcharge rides like this in Challenge Park is due to Hotel Breakers and Sandcastle Suites being located on the point itself. Challenge Park is open later than the main park so those staying on park property will spend a couple extra bucks enjoying themselves.

CP having a resort atmosphere is also the reason why they can get away with charging to get into Soak City.

you're all forgetting that last year- in addition to a hand-me-down from a closing park we got new trash cans.

And that's a bad thing? Most people don't even know that Firehawk was a used coaster. How is having more trash cans bad? I'd rather see that than fewer, overflowing trash cans.

but fewer trash cans means fewer bumble bees ;)

Im really getting tired of hearing complaints from spoiled users on these forums.

SO WHAT if Firehawk was used? Its still a great ride no matter if we got it straight from the manufacturer or from GL.

I would rather see more garbage cans so that the park looks cleaner.

An updated sign is never a bad thing.

If we dont get anything this year, thats fine with me. There are still many, MANY attractions at the park that I will enjoy, instead of sitting here complaining about it on a website.

P.S. Consider yourselves lucky. Until mid-May, all I have a Beech Bend in Bowling Green, KY. Talk about a Zamperlia showroom.

The only time I have ridden the Rumbler was during an ACE event which included The Voyage a Holiday World right before it, so Rumbler was kind of a let down for me. Of course I was spoiled after 2 days of Voyage, Raven, and Legend.

You have to admit Interp, if you take a truck into Beech Bend, theres only one ride you cant take with you :)
