Past Water Ride

Featured Replies

I'm not sure, but didn't KI have another water (log) ride in the past? If so, does anyone remember when and the name of it? <_<

Yep. It was called Kenton`s Cove Keelboat Canal. It was located where The Crypt currently stands today (the ride formerly known as Tomb Raider: The Ride). KCKC was built for the 1973 season by Arrow Dynamics (the same company that built the original log flume that is still operating, which was built for Coney Island in 1968).

KCKC met its demise at the end of the 2000 season, when it was SBNO the alst several weekends. In the spring of 2001, the wrecking crews moved in to demolish the ride. Ironically, this was the same season that the Wild Thornberrys River Adventure opened, after remaining closed during the entire 2000 season as it was refurbished to thrill more park visitors for years to come.

Kenton`s Cove Keelboat Canal

I think the Wild Thornberrys River Adventure ride is the most colorful and wonderfully decorated ride in the park!

To preserve the log flume from Coney they did very well with Wild Thornberry's ride conversion. It keeps a classic ride for future generations.

i miss kenton's cove...maybe i'm remembering wrong...but as far as i remember, i liked it better than the "wild thornberry's" one.....

Same here. I came to KI last year for the first time in awhile. I kept thinking Wild thornberrys was the water ride I liked most, until I rode it. I then kept looking for more water rides because I then knew thornberrys was not the water ride I use to ride over and over everytime I came to KI. So its been haunting me for awhile. It was Kenton's Cove I was looking for. That was a great water ride. I remember riding that and The Bat over and over. Everytime I came to KI, KC was always the ride I looked forward to. Why did they take it out? <_<

I`m not exactly sure the reasoning behind why they removed it. But if I had to guess, ridership was starting to dwindle. And it was likely going to need a major rehab to keep it running for years to come. Rather then renovate it like they did with the Thornberrys, they decided to remove it and replace it with a new attraction.

Water rides are great. They should put more in at KI. Maybe one that resembles KC. :D

KCKC was an Arrow Hydroflume. They are disappearing from parks left and right. Six Flags Great Adventure recently removed theirs. If you want to ride one, get thee to Hersheypark. There is no reason to think new ones will be built in any park.

What is an Arrow Hydroflume. Is that who makes it, or is that the type of ride it is? What is Congo Falls?

In this case, The Interpreter misspoke. Congo Falls is in fact, as others have pointed out, manufactured and designed by Intamin.

And even I knew that. No wonder I went to bed early. Yep, it's INTAMIN. And a prototype and still, in my opinion, one of the best ever built.

Wow, seeing that picture of KCKC really makes me miss the way Rivertown used to look. I'll always remember seeing that ride the first time I visited Kings Island on opening day 1998. It was not very warm outside, and I remember seeing people riding KCKC, and thinking how crazy they were to want to get wet in the cold weather.

That is one of the rides in the park i do not remember very vividly. I do beleive though i remember seeing that ride once and wanting to ride it.

Yeah, Rivertown was great, and KCKC was an awesome water ride. I use to ride it over and over every time I came to KI. In fact, I miss the look of alot of things in the park. But as time goes on, everything changes. The main things I wish they would bring back is KCKC, The Bat, The scenery for the train ride, Enchanted Voyage, and the H-B Characters. If them things were added into what the park is today the park would be awesome. It is now, don't get me wrong, but it would be alot better. :)

I for one, while missing KCKC am glad that they chose to keep the er Wild Thorberies. While having a smaller drop, it does have a better layout and character. As a kid I enjoyed it more.

Think about it, KI had two very similar rides that were in need of refurbishment in the same section of the park. Neither of which had been popular in a while. I think it made sense to refurbish one and replace the other. Now what they replaced it with is another discussion alltogether.

KI's website does say Intamin. But I've always found Interp to be more reliable.......

So just disregard my signature...

Yes I wish the Enchanted Voyage was still here, that ride was a fun ride for adults as well as kids, I also loved the prisoners mine at Dollywood that was removed about 12 years ago and I believe replaced with nothing, very similar, I loved that ride, I think they still have it at Silver Dollar City in Branson

Yeah, great move, did Paramount's advise them on that and say "hey, why don't you take down a classic ride and replace it with a gift shop or a basketball game"
