HoundDog
The scrolling message board near the security checkpoint was scrolling the message that Delerium was closed down for the day...and heard several people say, "Does that mean we can't ride it?" Scooby_Doo
I took my 8 year old nephew to howl-o-fest and I hear all kinds of crap talk like I heard a father tell his kids that scooby-doo and the haunted castle was a scary roller coaster!...wow dontcha think you should ride it first before you lie to your kids!?! then I heard a couple of punk teenagers at Halloween Haunt telling people that The Racer has a loop. The Freaks really do come out at night!
JAHill
^ XD I overheard today in school that Diamondback was being remodled and had to be rebuilt to fit the surrounding area (WTF?!), and it would have to be rescheduled to open in 2010. Speechless, me!
Vortexlover2
just remembered this, from a while ago at Cedar Point: somebody asked me how many times disastor transport goes upside down. So I politely answered them. "6." Don't worry, I corrected myself...
JAHill
Question from Tuesday while walking to my engineering class: "Hey Jordan" "What?" "Diamondback's got 7 inversions right?" "Phbbbt." "What? I read it on the website." "Your lack of information is something I can't describe. What website did you read that from?" "KICentral.com" "-long pause- Wow."
gigacoaster2k
From a kid in line for Maverick (and looking directly at the track) "Does this go upside down?"
JAHill
EPIC BUMP! "Racer had to be relocated behind Firehawk."
footballfreak
Today my dad, brother and I were looking at pictures of Shiekra on rcdb.com and when we came up on this picture before my brother and I got a good look my dad said "what, do they put helmets on the people before they ride or something." My brother and I said "WHAT" at the exact same time. Then we got a better look at the picture and there were water test dummies in the train. It was FUNNY. LOL http://www.rcdb.com/ig2662.htm?picture=59
skaterboy22101
"Did you hear about the new ride by The Tomb Raider?" Ahhh, i love when clueless kids at school get ride names wrong
iChase
^ As do I. That drives me nuts. Also when people add "The" before every name. THE Son of The Beast. Arg! THE Top Gun. ...I should stop, I'm upsetting myself.
goofywdw
^That drove me crazy at SFNE. THE Superman, THE Batman, I would get so aggravated and everyone I was with would know it too.
The Interpreter
FWIW, I have never heard anyone say "The Kingda Ka," "The Medusa," "The Skull Mountain," "The Rolling Thunder" or "The Superman: Ultimate Flight." I have heard "The Great American Scream Machine," but for me, at least, that does not grate.
iChase
Honestly, I would call it "The Great American Scream Machine" too.
The Interpreter
You could call it that....or GASM.
violakat03
The local news called it "THE" Diamondback today. They also showed the computer rendered video of ... Firehawk. News fail.
DropZone99
The local news called it "THE" Diamondback today. They also showed the computer rendered video of ... Firehawk. News fail. You mean that crappy animation left over from Stealth?!
Rollercoast19
I saw it too. It drives me crazy watching the news. I would think they could use the videos from the media CD that was most likely sent to them.
violakat03
Yeah, and they alternated between that video and a still shot of SOB's loop. C'mon people. I'm sure you have a DB animation. Please use it.
Rollercoast19
Also, don't forget they said it would go 90 mph,
violakat03
Also, don't forget they said it would go 90 mph, I missed that. I guess I was too busy loudly complaining about their misuse of video/photos/use of the word 'the' to hear it.
CedarPointer
Channel 7 had a story about the job fair a few days ago. Some of their clips included the old entrance sign, the new entrance sign with PKI on it, the Drop Zone sign, and SOB's loop.
The Interpreter
And these are media people, who pay a tiny bit more attention to this than the average park guest. You really think the minor variations in The Beast model trains are going to be noticed by the typical buyer? Not a chance.
Jaredap88
thats just upsetting. come on people its the NEWS do your jobs...grr
The Interpreter
In the grand scheme of things in most newsrooms, amusement park industry stories are seen as light hearted feature stories, except when there is an accident, then "if it bleeds, it leads." Like many employers, media companies have laid off many, many people and staffing is not what it once was. Quite frankly, little importance is given to park stories that do not involve death or injury, and quite often items are merely rehashed press releases, if that. Usually, the source would be better off if the press release were NOT re-written. More and more, this is exactly the case.
Jaredap88
i just say if its not worth telling the story with proper facts and visual aids then maybe they shouldn't tell the story at all. i mean anyone who really cares already knows anyways. gah, i just have a lot of issues with the news. especially around here they are just really bad at delivering the news and a good chunk of the time its poorly reported news. The Interpreter
Be careful what you wish for. The way things are going, you may well get your wish. Newspapers and magazines are folding left and right. The stories may well not be told at all.
Jaredap88
like i said i like the news and more times than not i want to hear the story but c'mon is it really that hard to get at least some of the facts straight?
The Interpreter
Surely it is not your contention they get nothing right? They do get some of their facts straight....in fact, nearly all of them. Exaggeration is not a way to make a case,. here or anywhere else. They also use proper punctuation and capitalization. Surely it isn't that hard to do that? And the TOS here require it...
Thrill_Biscuit
I actually heard a news anchor refer to the park as "King Islands". Many times news people move into an area from another part of the country, and they go right to work before they're fully acquainted with local place names.
