RingMaster
I'm sure this has been mentioned before, but standing on the midway that's now closed, I was underwhelmed by the height of Diamondback. I guess you really have nothing to compare it to from there. It wasn't until I saw just how massive this thing was from Kings Island Dr. that I was really impressed with its size. This is going to be a winner! I was also (and still am) not visually impressed with Diamondback's height. I think without the Arrow/wooden coaster lattice supports that I'm used to seeing on KI's taller coasters (and Cedar Point's as well for that matter) the visual impact is somehow diminished. The gargantuan B&M track and supports also contribute to Diamondback's seemingly short stature. Just go there and see it in person, then you will be blown back on your rear. Trust me, this thing is beautiful. I agree with CoasterCrazy on this one. When I'm looking straight up at it, it just doesn't look that high up when I'M looking straight up at it. However, when I'm looking at Son of Beast, that thing looks HUGE to me. Especially when riding past where the loop used to be during the ride course and you look up the lift hill and first drop. It is stunning. But then when I go up Crypt's exit and look at Diamondback from the bottom of the first drop up to the lift hill, the feeling of size and stature just isn't there. Hopefully, when the drop is finished and I get to look at it up close, my thoughts will change.
CoasterKrazy
Just go there and see it in person, then you will be blown back on your rear. Trust me, this thing is beautiful. I began to feel this way after I saw it in person. I'm not complaining (I'm quite happy with the height), it's merely an observation I've made. Also, since the first hill is not far-removed from the midway and also located in a valley (like SOB, Vortex, Flight Deck are), I think this also adds to the "short factor." FOFreak
Valley? Quite the contrary my friend the tallest part of the coaster is on a fairly flat part of the park!
JAHill
It actually has a pretty good dip in it, FOFreak.

Actually SOB is in a valley. Vortex is kinda in a valley-ish area but since most of the layout doesn't get too close to the ground you can't noticed it too much. Flight Deck is on a hill, & n a ravine.
FOFreak
Well the hammerhead area has a decent slope, but the lift should be level.
Kawana
Just to add my two cents about The Beast's entry plaza. From the videos on the Diamondback video page it looks like that island where they just removed the trees, will come back in some capacity. Looking at the video, I wouldn't expect it to change very much from what it was a week ago, aside from an obvious new location for The Beast's sign, new mode of entry to the queue, etc... tigellinus
^^Just to confirm, Maverick never had a pine tree, correct?? Also, does this mean Behemoth had a Canadian flag when it was topped off?? Hopefully the lack of pine tree isn't any sort of insult to the coaster Gods, but I don't think it will be a big deal... RailRider
The use of the pine tree is a company by company thing. Adena who is erecting Diamondback also did the steel work on Maverick. So the lack of a pine tree at the top of Diamondback is not a shock. There are quite a few companies that carry on the tradition that has its roots in scandinavian tradition. So it really just depends on who erects the coaster.

RailRider
Looks like a flag to me or Charlie Brown left his tree up there
CoasterKrazy
Sorry about the misunderstanding: Because SOB, Flight Deck, and Vortex are in valleys/ravines/low places and Diamondback is not, Diamondback seems short to me.
RailRider
Two reassons Diamondback seems short. 1. The minamilist support structure that B&M use. There is no latice work like on a wooden or Arrow. 2. There is no point of refrence to compare the lift to. Diamondback sits in area of the park where there are no other attractions close by. Therefore you have nothing to compare the size of the lift too. Now if DB was nestled up against SoB, Beast or even Racer it would put the size of the hill in to perspective. Once you see a train loaded with riders at the top the size will become more evident.
Beast1979
Good explaining, yet now with the tallest support up all you have to do is walk up near it. WOW!
tigellinus
Wow!! RailRider dropping some pretty insightful knowledge today!! (and I'm completely genuine when I say that! ) And btw, as for the size perspective, for me the litmus test is more at a distance...I mean, personally, standing on Perimeter Road and looking up, I don't even think that Millennium Force looks that tall!! BUT...the further out you go (like even the queue) the more you start to appreciate the size. The only coaster that legitimately has looked massively tall to me standing beneath it is TTD!! (or Kingda Ka, but you can't get as intimate with KK save for barely with the parking lot).
The Interpreter
You could the first year....in fact, the queue went under the launching area.....and then, it no longer did....
tigellinus
^^Yeah, I knew about that. What's funny is I've *only* ridden KK via Flash Pass, and honestly, I don't even know how to get to the entrance queue?? In fact, at the exit, I've only turned right and I'm guessing the entrance is to the left of the exit/Kodak booth. However, on my most recent KK ride I looked to the right on the ascent (my favorite thing to do on TTD now), and I saw what looked like some adjacent (but not directly attached) queue "hut" of dozens of rails together, but covered by a roof, and I'm guessing that was Ka's queue?! The scary part was, it wasn't that busy that day, yet that "hut" looked entirely full!!
The Interpreter
...what's scarier still is the hut is the second part of that line...after a long queue rail lined line.....

flightoffear1996
Who cares how tall it looks or how tall it is. Its going to be a great ride. I would ride Maverick over TTD any day its towers more than 300ft taller. Hieght and speed are not the only thing that makes a coaster!!!!
Beast1979
Yet I doubt this ride wouldn't be near as good without it's speed and hight! I still wouldn't have minded a Maverick style coaster there.

Rollercoast19
I went to HH yesterday and there were several times I noticed how big Diamondback was: 1. When walking by the Rakes-Helbig Memorial Hospital 2. Going up the lift hill of The Racer 3. Waiting outside for the park to open.
