chippewa&idora4ever
You have no idea how your behavior effects people. If I could delete this topic I would, I'm not innocent but I don't deserve this, does anyone agree with me...
The Interpreter
Why would you delete a topic about painting rides that you neither started nor have consumed the most of? We discuss things here, not posters. No one is dissing you. They are dissing your opinion...that's a totally different thing.
chippewa&idora4ever
I started this topic, actually...
The Interpreter
Fine, but others have expressed opinions...and you did start it! I'm sorry I stated otherwise.

CoastersRZ
Yes. Do not take things so personally. While some of us here are expressing opinions that are contradictory to yours, we are not personally attacking you. And if it was an all out flame war, or personal attack, this topic would no longer be around on the boards. We run a fairly tight ship in that regard, after all this is a family site about a family amusement park.
Beast1979
Yep. With the site they run here they'res a lot more to do than to take constructive critism as an insult.
Beast1979
Let's just hope KICentral's still around by then! Seriously, if KICentral isn't around or when you decide not to run it can I take ownership?
dare-to-fly
Well this thread has taken interesting turns since I last read it. I'm glad it's not me this time. I'd quote it, but I don't remember the page that it's on. I'm curious about the comment made that Flight Deck will be around longer than Vortex. Why, in your opinion, would they remove what is, in my opinion, the best steel coaster they have?
CoastersRZ
Well, once Diamondback opens I think that your opinion of the best steel coaster in the park might change. And secondly, The Vortex is the oldest steel coaster in the park.
HoundDog
Flight Deck(Top Gun) was a really great coaster in the day. When they took away the theming it became a long walk to a short ride. I miss the walk through of the bowels of the "ship". The control room with the "navy personnel"...the dry ice fog...the Kenny Loggins music...etc. I understand the need to distance themselves from the Top Gun movie...but unless the Navy had issues with it...why lose ALL of the theme?
CoastersRZ
Well, the walk through area under the station is long gone! Its been gone for at least ten years now, I believe. They used to have a ride op positioned under there checking heights, which if the line was long, that location was a little far into the line. Most of the theming just fell apart because of a lack of upkeep. And they still played the Top Gun soundtrack, including the Kenny Loggins song, up until last season. The theming on the ride did not make the ride that much better, and did not add as much to the experience as what the theming did for Tomb Raider. Flight Deck is still a great ride. RailRider
Wow I am amzaed at where this topic went, but even more amazed that if you disagree with someone elses opinion you are personally attacking them. I have disagreed with a lot of opinions and I have had a lot of my opinions questioned, but never did I feel attacked personally. Seriously FlightDeck will be around for many many more years as will Vortex. One thing can be said about Arrow and that is they used good steel to construct their rides. Just because a ride is in need of paint or has a long que that is never full or is older does not mean it will be torn down in the near future. I have also never known que themeing to make a ride great, unless the entire ride experience is themed, like Revenge of the Mummy... Dueling Dragons has a long que like FlightDeck and even on the busiest of days it is almost always a walk on. Big Bad Wolf is an Arrow Suspended like FlightDeck and has been around since 1984, thats 9 years longer than FlightDeck and it will not be going anywhere any time soon. Paint fades, chips, and peels, but the need for paint or lack there of is no sign of a rides future. How many years did Raptor opperate as a lovely fadded green with natural white accents? The only Arrow that I know will not be around much longer is Magnum and that is because it is sinking in to Lake Erie
CoastersRZ
And just because a ride receives a paint job does not guarantee the ride is safe for years to come. King Cobra received a paint job for the 1999 season. The ride only lasted three seasons with its paint job before being removed in the spring of 2002. Coney Islander
My friend told me that they were going to build a bunch of rides behind The Racer by Flight of Fear and Firehawk for a new themed area. Also, didn't King Cobra close unexpectedly? I doubt Kings Island knew TOGO would go out of business in 1999. post
CoastersRZ
Not true on the first statement. 2009 will be Diamondback. And judging from past large installations at other Cedar Fair parks, we will be lucky if we see anything significant added in 2010. It certainly won`t be as substantial as what Diamondback is. And while Togo did go out of business, both Kings Dominion and Canda`s Wonderland still have their stand up coasters operating. Remember that King Cobra was the first stand up coaster that Togo made, which likely was part of the reason for its early demise compared to the other Togo stand ups in North America. Also, didn't King Cobra close unexpectedly? I doubt Kings Island knew TOGO would go out of business in 1999. post 99 King Cobra's removal had nothing to do with TOGO going out of business. Paramount Parks still operated two other TOGO stand ups at sister parks to Kings Island; Skyrider at Canada's Wonderland and Shockwave at Kings Dominion. Both of those coasters continued to operate through the Cedar Fair acquisition of 2006 and still operated under Cedar Fair management to this day. Edit: RZ beat me to it! Note: Besides the two standups at KD and CW, there are many other TOGO coasters still operating today. They're not that good, but they still continue to operate. Beast1979
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the steel TOGO used not as good or efficiant as other steel, which aided to it's demise?
Gordon Bombay
Supposedly, as many reputable sources have claimed over the past few years, the steel on King Cobra was not as high of a grade as the steel used in later TOGO models. King cobra was the prototype of the TOGO stand ups and was first constructed in Japan for Kings Island executives and potential buyers to see before being dismantled and moved to the United States. This alleged "poor" steel was said to be the main contributor to the ride's upkeep costs and downtime and eventually it's removal. KICentral.com, home of the best KI History section, has some wonderful photos of King Cobra operation at TOGO's headquarters in Japan before it was moved here. These photos were contributed by KIC user: "pkiridesmaint" see the rest here: http://www.KICentral.com/history/photos/th...um=1&page=

tigellinus
^^I think that the reason KC was removed was because TOGO went out of business. And not to mention I found SkyRider at CW's my 2nd favorite coaster there!! Smooth, mostly comfy, a couple surprising 'drops of the stomach' moments, no lines, and a lot fun!! All this from an "old" TOGO!!
westcoaster
King Kobra was still better than the stand up 's that are running at the Roller Coast up north or south at Ky king dom..... Its a shame king kobra was taken out...but if Cedar Fair had been running things I think they would have kept it running.....

Its a shame king kobra was taken out...but if Cedar Fair had been running things I think they would have kept it running..... I would suggest reading the following posts by me and RZ above yours. The removal of King Cobra had nothing to with who owned it. The ride was becoming expensive to maintain and had a substantial amount of downtime due to the material it was constructed from. The Interpreter
Not to mention that, as previously stated, King Kobra was not at Kings Island. In addition, it was NOT a stand-up, nor built by TOGO. King Kobra was at Kings Dominion. It's been gone for many, many years: http://www.rcdb.com/ig637.htm?picture=
