brennanjk12 Posted March 9, 2003 Posted March 9, 2003 i have a question.i was at a Cedar Point page with discussion like this and somebody said that he heard rumors about The Beast getting knocked over by the wind.it sounds weird but does anyone know if this is true??? Quote
teenageninja Posted March 9, 2003 Posted March 9, 2003 Son of Beasts UNSUPPORTED structure blew over during construction. Quote
FOF Posted March 9, 2003 Posted March 9, 2003 You refering to Guide to the Point? Ran by the same person as coasterbuzz. Quote
fyrfyter Posted March 9, 2003 Posted March 9, 2003 It was a minor thing that happened during one windy day during the construction of the ride. I think the wind speeds that day were above the 50 m.p.h. mark, as it left Cincy with tree and power line damage throughout the city. Quote
shadow2k3 Posted March 9, 2003 Posted March 9, 2003 Yep, things like that happen in high wind. SOB just happened to catch it during construction. PKI would not even think of operating the ride if it were unsafe. They catch that kind of stuff on the track walk that's done in the morning. (Or is that a myth? Merch associates don't know rides saftey checks...) ~Shadow~ Quote
Scooby_Doo Posted March 9, 2003 Posted March 9, 2003 Yeah only during construction The Beast is very supported! The Beast is my all time fav coaster....then Son of Beast.... Quote
Dane Posted March 9, 2003 Posted March 9, 2003 All roller coasters are required by law to be inspected before a day of operation. And there are some serious fines if they don't. Quote
Coasterfan Posted March 10, 2003 Posted March 10, 2003 Actually only the track of wooden coasters is inspected every morning before the park opens. Quote
fyrfyter Posted March 10, 2003 Posted March 10, 2003 Hmmm, who has the crummy job of climbing through SOB's wooden loop every morning? That would be fun for about a day, and thats it. Quote
Dane Posted March 10, 2003 Posted March 10, 2003 The steel coaster get tested everyday, first by some dry runs, than an inspector rides in the front seat, scanning for damages, strange sounds, etc. Quote
coasterrz Posted March 10, 2003 Posted March 10, 2003 I do believe that PKI has a fork lift parked by SoB for the inspection of the loop every morning. I also seem to think that the park made a concrete pad to park the forklift on. Quote
Scooby_Doo Posted March 10, 2003 Posted March 10, 2003 Yeah your right pki has a fork lift on sob everymoring to check it out! Quote
AZ Kinda Guy Posted March 11, 2003 Posted March 11, 2003 (edited) I think you just had something confused. It's not so much a forklift but more along the lines of a cherry picker AKA bucket truck. Edited January 1, 1970 by AZ Kinda Guy Quote
FOF Posted March 11, 2003 Posted March 11, 2003 yeah Sparky its definitly not a Fork Lift, a fork lift is what you use to pick up skids and such. The peice of equipment next to the SOB loop is a cherry picker. Quote
fyrfyter Posted March 11, 2003 Posted March 11, 2003 Id say taht has to get old really quick, riding walking the coasters circuit, and every day doing the same thing, in terms of riding the ride and looking for damage. I think i would be bad at that, because I would be having way too much fun on the ride, to even try to look for problems with it. Quote
pki_guy Posted March 11, 2003 Posted March 11, 2003 It wouldnt be very easy to check the track with a fork lift. cherry picker sounds alot better. Quote
Scooby_Doo Posted March 11, 2003 Posted March 11, 2003 Yeah but dont they need somelight i heard they check out the tracks begining at 5:30am!!!!! Quote
pki_guy Posted March 12, 2003 Posted March 12, 2003 They do. They usually have flashlights to check things when its still dark. But I doubt they actually get out there and walk the tracks first. they probably look at the station and other things while its still dark. but then i could be wrong because i really dont know. Quote
